Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, has been selected for the Om Prakash Bhasin Award 2023 in engineering, including energy and aerospace.

The award recognises his contributions to power systems, renewable energy integration and smart grid technologies, areas that are central to India’s energy transition and grid modernisation.

Instituted in memory of industrialist Om Prakash Bhasin, the award is conferred annually for significant contributions in science and technology with demonstrable impact on national development. Over the years, it has honoured several leading scientists and engineers, including A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Raja Ramanna, K. Kasturirangan, K.L. Chopra, R.A. Mashelkar and K.S. Narasimhan.

Prof. Mishra’s work has focused on improving efficiency and reliability in power systems, particularly through the integration of renewable energy sources and the development of smart grid solutions.

Before taking over as Director of IIT (ISM), he held academic and administrative roles at IIT Delhi, including Associate Dean (R&D) and Dean at its Abu Dhabi campus. He began his academic career at Sambalpur University and later served at Biju Patnaik University of Technology.

He is a recipient of several honours, including the INSA Young Scientist Medal, the INAE Young Engineer Award and the NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee Award, and is a Fellow of professional bodies such as IEEE, INAE and NASI.

Officials at IIT (ISM) said the recognition underscores the institute’s expanding footprint in advanced engineering and energy research.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday questioned industrialist Anil Ambani in connection with an alleged Rs 2,929 crore cheating case linked to Reliance Communications Ltd (RCom), after a complaint by the State Bank of India (SBI), officials said.

Anil Ambani arrived at the CBI headquarters on Thursday morning for questioning as part of the ongoing probe into alleged fund diversion, misappropriation and irregularities in loan funds extended to the company. Incidentally, his appearance before the CBI came days after his eldest son, Jai Anmol Ambani, was questioned in connection with another bank fraud case, for more than six hours.

The CBI has alleged that funds meant for business operations were diverted, with irregularities flagged in how the loans were utilised. The probe agency is examining financial transactions, internal approvals as well as the end-use of funds as part of its investigation.

The SBI had complained about suspected financial irregularities after Anil Ambani-linked telecom company Reliance Communications Ltd (RCOM) defaulted on large loans. RCOM had accumulated massive debt before entering insolvency proceedings, leaving lenders with significant exposure.

Anil Ambani also faces an Enforcement Directorate probe into alleged financial irregularities within his Reliance Group. In February, the ED seized the tycoon’s 17-storey luxury apartment in Mumbai as part of its investigation.

A teacher at a government-run high school in Bhubaneswar has been placed under suspension for alleged negligence of his duties during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.

Ms. Rashmi Sahu, an assistant teacher at the Government High School, Chandrasekharpur Phase-II, has been suspended from service, an order issued on
Thursday to this effect by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

Sahu had been appointed as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) for Booth No. 109 under Assembly Constituency No. 113. She was engaged in the SIR exercise, for ensuring foolproof electoral roll. However she skipped duty without assigning valid reason or prior permission. Her unauthorized absence has been treated as serious negligence and dereliction of duty.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Commissioner and District Election Officer, Chanchal Rana, issued the suspension order under Section 32(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

The BJP on Thursday announced its list of 88 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, fielding Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from his traditional Jalukbari seat. Under the new seat-sharing arrangement, the saffron party will contest 89 seats, the AGP 26, and the BPF 11 in the 126-member Assembly. The name of the candidate from the Sissiborgaon constituency has been withheld.

Prominent candidates include Pradyut Bordoloi, who joined the BJP on Wednesday after leaving Congress. He has been fielded from the Dispur Assembly constituency. Another leader who switched sides to the BJP, Bhupen Borah—the former state Congress chief—has been nominated from Bihpuria.

While signaling continuity, the party has also dropped around 11 sitting MLAs.

Meanwhile, only five women candidates have been fielded for the elections, the voting for which will be held in a single phase on April 9, and counting of votes on May 4.

The party is seeking to retain power in the state, with Sarma aiming for another term as Chief Minister.

In the 2021 elections, the NDA comprising the BJP, Asom Gana Parishad, and the United People’s Party Liberal won with 75 seats. For these elections the BJP has brought the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) back into its fold. The UPPL had earlier left the NDA, citing ideological differences.

The BJP on Thursday announced 88 candidates for the April-9 Assam Assembly elections under a new NDA seat-sharing arrangement: BJP 89 seats, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) 26, and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) 11 in the 126-member Assembly. In 2021, the NDA—then comprising the BJP, AGP and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL)—had won 75 seats.

For 2026, however, the saffron party brought the BPF back into its fold, while the UPPL exited the alliance amid strained negotiations and reported ideological differences, thus marking a significant shift in the ruling coalition’s dynamics in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) comprising 15 Assembly constituencies.

Apparently, the UPPL had asked for a “respectable” seven seats but was being given only four, while the BPF was allocated 11 constituencies. But despite being a key BJP ally since 2020 and jointly forming the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) government, it was overshadowed when the BPF, despite earlier setbacks, re-emerged as a dominant force.

For the BJP, the switch is largely strategic, winning-oriented. By opting for the BPF, the BJP seems to be following a pragmatic, results-driven approach, given the BPF’s performance in the local body elections. By allocating 11 seats to the BPF, the BJP could be trying to consolidate Bodo votes under what it perceives as a stronger ally against the opposition.

Sources, however, say, even if the UPPL cuts into this base, the BJP is keeping communication channels with its leaders, even though party chief and Rajya Sabha MP-elect Pramod Boro has entered the Assembly poll fray as a candidate outside the NDA. Interestingly, Baro was one of the three candidates from the ruling NDA who were recently elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Assam.

State leaders say stakes are high for everyone, including the BJP but more for the UPPL. “Outside the NDA, the UPPL loses access to the collective organisational strength as well as advantages of association with the ruling state government. It will now be in direct confrontation with the BJP and principal rival BPF while attempting to establish itself as an independent regional force. At the same time, the break allows the UPPL to reclaim its ideological identity and tap into anti-BJP sentiment,” they add.

A dead snake was found in the curry served to the devotees during a religious event in an urban locality in Odisha’s Kendrapara district with people, fearing food poisoning, rushed to a nearby sub divisional hospital in panic, health authorities said on Thursday.

The incident occurred at Nuagaon locality under ward-10 of Pattamundai municipality yesterday night. There was a congregation of around 1,000 devotees at the Bhagabat Parayan Hindu spiritual conference. After the conference came to an end, a community feast followed with Prasad served to the devotees. During the course of the Prasad being served, the organizers were shell-shocked to find a dead snake in the dalma (a curry prepared from vegetable and pulses), said locals.

After the dead snake was found, the community feast was suspended midway. However, by that time around 700 devotees had eaten the dalma curry container.

All hell broke loose as news of finding a snake in the curry spread like wildfire. Those who had taken the Prasad made a beeline to Pattamundai sub divisional hospital during midnight hours, they added.

People for apparent reasons were scared. We conducted a medical checkup of all and did not find any symptom of food poisoning-induced sickness. After medical counseling, we advised them not to be panicky. In a precautionary measure, a medical team was sent to the locality today morning to ascertain whether anyone reported sickness after the intake of suspected toxic curry. However, none who ate food at the community feast was found suffering from illness, said Dr. Nirakar Parida, Medical Officer, Pattamundai sub divisional hospital.

BJP Jharkhand president and MP Aditya Sahu has written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, urging the state government to avoid any language-based dispute while finalising rules for teacher recruitment.

In his letter, Sahu said Jharkhand has historically been a linguistically diverse region where tribal and local communities have coexisted with multiple languages and dialects, cautioning that any selective approach at the policy level could create divisions and hamper progress.

Referring to the delay in conducting the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) for nearly a decade, he noted that the Jharkhand High Court has directed the state to complete the recruitment process by March 31, 2026, and that the Education Department is currently framing rules in this regard.

Sahu expressed concern over the proposed identification of regional and tribal languages on a district-wise basis, stating that it may trigger fresh disputes and affect employment prospects of candidates.

He pointed out that languages such as Odia and Bangla are being considered in districts bordering Odisha and West Bengal, but questioned why Bhojpuri, Magahi, Kurmali, Angika and Maithili spoken in districts bordering Bihar, including Palamu, Garhwa, Latehar and parts of Santhal Pargana, have not been given similar consideration.

The BJP leader further said that the youth in the state are already facing uncertainty due to delays in recruitment, cancellation of examinations and alleged irregularities in selection processes.

He urged the government to take into account ground realities and ensure inclusion of all relevant languages in the policy framework to avoid unrest and ensure fair opportunities.

While inaugurating a election committee office of his party’s Kozhikode North constituency candidate Navya Haridas at Erangipalam on Thursday, former Kerala BJP secretary CK Padmanabhan called the CPM a smoldering volcano.

He said even as the last vestiges of Communism have gone from the world, Pinarayi Vijayan and M V Govindan are trying to look after their own interests.
“The volcano called CPM is about to erupt. It will erupt soon,” he said.

He claimed that the influx from the CPM to the BJP has started and is likely to upset the old-timers in the BJP. “The old-timers in the BJP should remember that there are those among them,who have made party work their livelihood and those who are selling the party to make a living.’

In a significant development, HDFC Bank’s part-time chairman and independent director Atanu Chakraborty has resigned from his position citing concerns over “certain happenings and practices” at the bank.

He said the certain happenings were not aligned with his personal values and ethics.

In his resignation letter, Chakraborty wrote, developments over the past two years were not in congruence with my personal values and ethics, which led him to step down with immediate effect. He also clarified that there were no other reasons behind his decision.

Reacting to the development, the stocks of HDFC Bank faced one of the biggest hits.

Its share price opened 8.7 per cent down after the resignation of Chairman Atanu Chakraborty, and the development made investors jittery about management stability. The recovered quickly from the opening lows as it was trading 4.23 per cent down around 10 am.

The opposition Congress, which has been trying to gherao the Narendra Modi-led government over its foreign policy with regard to the conflict in the Middle East, has found itself on the back foot after two of its senior leaders apparently backed the Centre’s stance.

Manish Tewari and Shashi Tharoor, Congress MPs from Punjab and Kerala, respectively, have presented contrasting views, supporting the stance taken by the government as it navigates the conflict in a region that has huge implications for India’s energy security.

The Congress party heavily criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not offering condolences on Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s assassination in joint strikes by the US and Israel.

The Opposition party also slammed the government over its alleged silence on the sinking of the Iranian ship, IRIS Dena, in the Indian Ocean near Sri Lanka. Dena was India’s guest and was returning to Iran when it was torpedoed by a US submarine. Following the criticism, India issued a clarification that Iran had asked for docking permission for three ships, and the same was granted the next day.

Now, Congress leader Manish Tewari has come out in support of the Modi government. Speaking at an event hosted by a private news channel, Tewari said that the war in Iran is not India’s war and that New Delhi is doing the right thing by trying to protect its national interest and navigate the situation.

“Well, it’s not our war. We’ve always been rather marginal players in the greater Middle East, and the problems of the region did not start today,” Tewari said.

He continued, “Since we have a huge diaspora, close to 48 million people, in addition to that, of course, the imperatives of our energy security, not limited to crude oil and natural gas, but also fertiliser, which is extremely important for our food security. If we are circumspect, I think we are probably doing the right thing, because that is really what strategic autonomy is about — the ability to protect your interests and navigate, if I may put it in those words, contradictory impulses.”

Tewari is not the only Congress leader to have supported the government’s response to the Iran war. His Kerala colleague Shashi Tharoor also said that India’s “silence” should not be seen as cowardice.

While asserting that the US and Israel’s war against Iran is unjustifiable under international law, Tharoor said New Delhi’s silence should not be seen as an endorsement of that. According to him, “it is a recognition that our national interest requires prudence, not posturing.”

“If I were advising any Indian government, I too would counsel restraint. Restraint is strength — the strength to balance principle with pragmatism, to honour our values while safeguarding our interests, and to navigate a dangerous world with wisdom rather than bravado,” he added.

But behind the internet noise sits a young entrepreneur who insists his story is not about fame or fancy vehicles. According to him, it is about discipline, systems and relentless work.

Rahman, a Bangladeshi entrepreneur who rose to millionaire status at a young age, has quietly become one of the most talked-about Gen-Z business figures in South Asia’s digital economy. His journey did not begin in corporate offices or elite startup incubators. It began in a small town with financial struggles, family responsibility and a monthly paycheck that barely covered basic needs.

Growing up with responsibility

Rahman was born in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh, in what he describes as a modest middle-class household. Life at home was not always financially secure. His father worked hard in Dhaka to support the family, while his mother carried both financial and health challenges.

Comfort was rare. Responsibility was constant.

One difficult moment arrived during his school years when he failed Class 9. For many students, that kind of setback can feel like the end of the road. Rahman, however, says it became the turning point that pushed him toward a different path.

Instead of retreating, he started working. At one point, he served as a salesman in a clothing shop. Later, he worked in a pharmacy, earning about 6,000 Bangladeshi taka per month.

Education, then a bold exit

After finishing his SSC and HSC examinations, Rahman moved forward with his academic journey and enrolled in the marketing program at American International University‑Bangladesh, commonly known as AIUB.

Like many young students interested in business, he initially followed the traditional path of higher education. But while attending university, he was already exploring opportunities in rapidly growing digital economy.

The more time he spent experimenting with online businesses, more he realised that marketplace itself was becoming his real classroom.

Eventually he faced a difficult choice: continue focusing on university or shift full attention to building businesses.

Rahman chose the market.

Leaving university was not an emotional impulse, he says. It was a calculated decision based on the momentum he was seeing in his early ventures.

Catching the e-commerce wave

Rahman’s entrepreneurial breakthrough came during global boom of e-commerce. As online marketplaces and digital advertising expanded rapidly, new generation of entrepreneurs began experimenting with dropshipping, online stores and digital marketing.

Rahman jumped into this environment early.

He started learning paid advertising, campaign management and brand positioning. At first, he worked with smaller online sellers who needed help promoting their products.

Gradually Rahman built reputation for helping these sellers scale their businesses.

The birth of an ecosystem called ‘Connected’

Today he is the founder of Connected, a venture ecosystem designed to build and scale brands across multiple industries.

Rather than focusing on a single company, Rahman says his strategy revolves around building a network of ventures. The ecosystem model aims to support businesses in areas like digital advertising, SaaS platforms, fintech, infrastructure and consumer lifestyle brands.

Rahman believes the way a brand is presented to the world can be just as important as the product itself. By combining storytelling, marketing and digital strategy, he aims to build businesses that operate beyond his personal identity.

Lifestyle that sparks debate

Unlike many traditional entrepreneurs who stay behind the scenes, Rahman openly shares glimpses of luxury on social media. His content frequently features high-end vehicles including a Toyota Supra MK5, Mercedes Brabus, BMW X7, Toyota Alphard 2024, Mazda MX-5 and Toyota Chaser.

For critics, these displays feel excessive or unnecessary.

Speaking out against online scams

Beyond business and lifestyle posts, Rahman has also taken a public stand on an issue that affects many young internet users: online financial scams.

In particular, he has criticised affiliate programs and schemes linked to misleading trading promotions. According to him, many inexperienced young people are drawn into unrealistic promises of quick profit.

Rahman warns that fake screenshots, manipulated earnings claims and aggressive recruiting tactics often trap vulnerable users.

While he acknowledges that legitimate trading exists, he insists that success in financial markets requires education, patience, careful risk management.

Work ethic that sparked national debate

One of Rahman’s most controversial opinions appeared when he publicly said that working seven days in a week is necessary to achieve extraordinary results.

In a strong move dated March 17, Judge Jeevanarao Vasantrao Kulkarni passed an ex-parte temporary injunction to protect the upcoming film backed by Mythri Movie Makers.

The reason? The producers approached the court claiming that malicious and damaging content about the film was being spread online even before its theatrical release. According to them, this could seriously hurt the film’s reputation and business.

The court agreed there was enough urgency to act immediately, without waiting for the other side to respond.

Social media platforms put under legal scanner

The order doesn’t hold back. It clearly restrains the publication and circulation of such harmful content across major platforms. This includes X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Google, BookMyShow, IMDb, Facebook and Meta platforms.

In simple terms, anyone trying to spread negative or misleading content about the film on these platforms could now face legal consequences.

‘John Doe’ angle makes it even more serious

Here’s where it gets even more interesting. The court highlighted use of ‘John Doe’ orders. It is legal tool often used when the identity of wrongdoers is unknown.

In this case, 9th defendant is ‘John Doe’, meaning order applies even to unnamed individuals who might be behind anonymous posts or uploads.

The judge made it clear that such orders are not only for intellectual property protection, but can also be in use to safeguard broader interests like reputation and business.

After reviewing all the documents submitted, the court said the producers had made a prima facie case, basically, enough initial proof to justify immediate protection.

Trailer promise vs reality in part 2

When the trailer of ‘Dhurandhar 2’ came out, one moment grabbed all attention; Yalina holding a gun. That one shot made fans believe she would return in a bold, action-packed role.

It looked like her character would grow stronger.

But that promise did not turn into reality.

In ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, Yalina’s character takes a completely different turn, and not in a good way. Instead of becoming stronger, she suddenly feels weaker after marrying Hamza.

The same girl who once stood against her father now seems limited to the background.

Her screen time is also very less. Most of the film shows her as a mother to Hamza’s child, managing the home. Even when she learns the truth about Hamza, she still stands by him without much resistance.

This shift feels surprising (and disappointing).

Her journey from brave rebel to a quiet supportive wife feels incomplete. Many expected her to fight, question, or even challenge Hamza. But this film keeps her mostly silent.

When ‘Dhurandhar’ released in December 2025, fans walked out of theatres with one big question: who exactly is Bade Sahab? His name kept popping up like a shadow in every tense moment. No face, no full reveal, just power, fear, and mystery.

Now, with ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’ finally in theatres, the secret is out. And it’s louder than any explosion in the film. Bade Sahab is revealed to be none other than Dawood Ibrahim, the infamous underworld figure who inspired the character. No, it’s not Emraan Hashmi, it’s not Salman Khan.

Built up since part one

In the first film, Major Iqbal, played by Arjun Rampal, constantly referred to Bade Sahab as his powerful superior. The story quietly built him up as the mastermind pulling strings behind the scenes.

The big reveal in ‘Dhurandhar 2’ introduces actor Danish Iqbal as Bade Sahab. And he doesn’t just enter. He dominates.

Danish Iqbal is a theatre actor, a director, and a National Award-winning playwright. He trained at the prestigious National School of Drama and is known for serious, deep performances.

Off-screen, he is also an academic and teaches at Jamia Millia Islamia’s AJK Mass Communication Research Centre.

Despite sharing screen space with big names like Ranveer Singh, Danish Iqbal’s performance is getting massive praise. Many viewers are calling him the “real surprise package” of the film.

His portrayal of Bade Sahab; calm, powerful, and dangerous, has made the villain unforgettable.

What started as whispers in the first film has now turned into one of the boldest reveals of the franchise.
