Kerala Home Minister orders investigation against Hindutva ideologue TG Mohandas over statement that he ‘would have shot’ Jantar Mantar protesters

Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Monday ordered a police investigation into the highly controversial, violent, and misogynistic statements made by Hindutva ideologue T.G. Mohandas.

The probe follows controversial, violent, and misogynistic remarks made by Mohandas on a YouTube channel targeting Gen Z students protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi over the NEET examination paper leak.

Cyber Cell IG P. Prakash will lead the investigation. The probe was initiated following a formal complaint by the state secretary of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF). Multiple separate complaints have also been lodged by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the Youth Congress, and the Kerala Women’s Commission.

In a video posted on the YouTube channel Pathrika, Mohandas discussed the massive student demonstrations at Jantar Mantar over the NEET examination paper leak. He claimed that if he were in power, he would impose a curfew around the protest site and order the police to “shoot dead” the student protesters.

“I will impose a curfew in that area. I will announce to the crowd three times to disperse. Then I will shoot; people will scatter and run. Some may die and some may suffer injuries. Within four hours, the situation will be calm. The bodies will be collected and taken to hospitals,” he said.

He also drew intense backlash for making heavily misogynistic remarks, stating that the women participating in the protests “like to be raped” and would not even complain.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan has sharply criticised the state government for not registering a case against TG Mohandas. Vijayan said that the Sangh Parivar’s desire to eliminate dissent was reflected in such cruel statements.

Meanwhile, Mohandas has issued a subsequent statement claiming that his remarks were intended to be “satirical” and “hypothetical”, alleging that short clips of his comments had been taken out of context.
