PM Modi only leader to be honoured by 29 countries: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have paid off and the country’s name is now flying high in the world.

Statesman News Service | Lucknow |

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have paid off and the country’s name is now flying high in the world.

“I congratulate the Prime Minister for raising India’s name in the international arena. You will be pleased to know that our Prime Minister is the only leader to have received the highest honors from 29 countries,” he announced while speaking at the inauguration of the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal here on Thursday in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rajnath Singh said, “Today, the inflation rate is below 1 per cent. India’s growth rate is above 8 per cent. The entire world listens attentively to what India has to say. Today, this is India’s status in the world.”

“Our PM has done a tremendous job for the villages. He has done it for the poor and farmers. There was corruption in MNREGA. A new bill called “Developed India, Ramji” has been passed in Parliament. Now, instead of 100 days of work, 125 days will be available. Permanent work will be provided in the villages,” he added.

Rajnath Singh, who is also the MP from Lucknow, said, “I congratulate CM Yogi for establishing the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee fought a long struggle to ensure India’s unity and integrity. He sacrificed his life to abolish Article 370. Our PM has fulfilled his dream.”

“Pandit Deendayal, who gave the philosophy of integral humanism, gave the mantra of Antyodaya while worrying about the last person of the society. Deen Dayal Upadhyay presented the biggest philosophical concept in independent India. PM Modi is working on the basis of the ideology he gave. He believed that a person cannot be happy with money. A person should be concerned about his honor and respect. Every person should be educated. Follow God for the happiness of the soul. Wealth for the body. Respect for the happiness of the mind. God is needed for the happiness of the soul. These were his thoughts,” he Singh said.

“Who wouldn’t be impressed by the people of Lucknow, our former Prime Minister, the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He visited Pakistan. A woman said, “I’m ready to marry you, but I want Kashmir in return.” Atalji replied, “I’m ready, but I want Pakistan in return.” This was his humorous nature,” he narrated.

Talking about the Prerna Sthal, he said , “PM Modi’s mantra is to honour great men and remember their legacy. We must be proud of them. That is why statues of these three leaders have been installed. All three have worked to give India a new identity”.

China slams Pentagon report, says Beijing handles its relations with New Delhi from long-term perspective

China on Thursday hit out at a Pentagon report saying ”it sows discord between China and other countries, including India” adding that Beijing handles its relations with New Delhi from a long-term perspective.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

China on Thursday hit out at a Pentagon report saying ”it sows discord between China and other countries, including India” adding that Beijing handles its relations with New Delhi from a long-term perspective.

Denouncing the report, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said, “The Pentagon’s report distorts China’s defence policy, sows discord between China and other countries, and aims at finding a pretext for the US to maintain its military supremacy.”

“China firmly opposes the report,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said at a daily press briefing in response to a question on a US report that China probably seeks to “capitalize” on decreased tensions along the border with India to “prevent the deepening of US-India ties”.

“China views and handles its relations with India from a strategic height and a long-term perspective. We stand ready to strengthen communication, enhance mutual trust, promote cooperation, and properly handle differences with India, and advance a sound and stable bilateral relationship.

“The boundary question is a matter between China and India and the current border situation between the two countries is generally stable with smooth communication channels. China opposes relevant country’s groundless and irresponsible comments,” the spokesperson added.

According to a new US Defence Department report, China continues to prepare for a possible military confrontation with India along the Line of Actual Control, even as both sides pursue diplomatic engagement to stabilise ties.

The report identifies China’s Western Theatre Command as responsible for operations involving India. It says the command is structured and trained for high-altitude conflict and border contingencies.

According to the report, in 2024, Chinese forces conducted live-fire drills and mobility exercises in mountainous terrain. These activities were designed for combat in high-altitude and low-oxygen conditions.

The Pentagon assessment notes that China treats its territorial claims as “core interests”. These claims, it says, are considered non-negotiable by Beijing. The report explicitly includes India’s Arunachal Pradesh within this framework. Although India and China announced an agreement in October 2024 to disengage from remaining standoff points along the LAC, the report urges caution. It says the reduction in tension does not reflect a change in China’s long-term military posture.

Chinese leaders, the report says, likely seek to ease border friction to prevent closer strategic alignment between India and the United States. At the same time, Beijing continues to view US-India defence cooperation with concern.

The report points out that China remains wary of expanding US partnerships in the Indo-Pacific. It sees these ties as limiting its strategic freedom, including along its land borders.

China’s broader military modernisation also has direct relevance for India. The PLA is expanding its missile forces, air power, cyber units, and space-based surveillance. These capabilities enable China to operate across multiple theatres simultaneously.

The report notes that China has improved its ability to move forces quickly and sustain operations along its western frontier. Logistics, joint command structures, and rapid mobilisation remain key focus areas.

While diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Beijing has increased, the report stresses that mistrust remains deep. It says both sides continue to view each other with suspicion, particularly on security issues.

China’s military activities along the India border, the report concludes, reflect preparation rather than reassurance. Even amid talks and disengagement agreements, the PLA continues to train for scenarios involving renewed confrontation.

Sanjay Raut slams Fadnavis, questions what he has done for the Marathi people

Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP and chief party spokesperson lashed out against senior BJP leader and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday.

Statesman News Service | Mumbai |

Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP and chief party spokesperson lashed out against senior BJP leader and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday.

Responding to BJP’s criticism about Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) founder Raj Thackeray coming together to form an alliance to contest the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election, Sanjay Raut said, “You (Fadnavis) became Chief Minister only because you were with the Thackerays earlier. What have you done for the Marathi people?”

“Selling Mumbai to Gautam Adani is not a great service to the Marathi people. Is selling the entire Mumbai to a friend of Modi like Adani or feeding it to him any service done to the Marathi people? You have got a stomach ache after the Thackerays came together. We will not let Maharashtra be divided. We will never allow Mumbai to be separated from Maharashtra. Are you comparing Amit Shah with Raj Thackeray? You should not teach us at all”.

“What has the BJP and Devendra Fadnavis done for the Marathi people? Except for one Gopinathrao Munde, no one else has ever spoken about an undivided Maharashtra or raised their voice against the injustice being done to the Marathi people in the Belgaum-Karwar border issue. Neither has the current Deputy Chief Minister (Eknath Shinde) of this state nor any of his colleagues raised their voice against the injustice being done to the Marathi people,” Sanjay Raut said.

Responding to BJP’s criticism that the Thackeray cousins have come together merely for the sake of political power, Sanjay Raut said, “Devendra Fadnavis, don’t teach us. You have committed the sin of breaking Shiv Sena, which is the political organisation of the Marathi people. Maharashtra will not forgive you and will take revenge for this in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election”.

“BJP leader and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that we will create a separate Vidarbha by breaking up Maharashtra. As the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, was it not the duty of Fadnavis to ask Bawankule for an explanation? Never forget that you (Fadnavis) are the Chief Minister of Maharashtra because of Balasaheb Thackeray. Otherwise, you would have had to divide Maharashtra into pieces in order to become Chief Minister on one small piece of the state,” Sanjay Raut said.

“Purely, for your political ambition and greed for power, you broke up Shiv Sena, which is the representative of the Marathi people. You broke up the political organisation of the Marathi people created by Balasaheb Thackeray and gave it to a scoundrel (Eknath Shinde) by misusing the Election Commission. This shows your love for the Marathi people,” Sanjay Raut said.

Reacting to the BJP inducting leaders from other political parties, Sanjay Raut said, “They claim that the BJP is the biggest party in the world. They are the wealthiest political party in India. They have funds worth around Rs 10,000 crore. Gautam Adani is also a BJP leader. Yet, they have to lure away MPs, MLAs and workers of other parties. This is a sign of rich beggars”.

“When a rich person becomes a beggar, he behaves very helplessly and inflexibly. There is opposition to such activities from within his (Fadnavis) own party. Devyani Farande, who is a BJP MLA, has taken to the streets along with other people, protesting against leaders from other parties being taken into the BJP. Before that, Seema Ahire had taken to the streets. Without any hesitation, they purchase workers and leaders of other parties. This is something that tarnishes the tradition of Maharashtra,” Sanjay Raut said.

“Devendra Fadnavis and Narendra Modi have been talking about political character, right? Then how did you take all those whom you had previously accused of various things until yesterday into the Nashik district unit of the BJP? You have included rapists and murderers in the BJP. Does BJP leader Girish Mahajan want to start a mafia gang by taking such people into the BJP?” Sanjay Raut questioned.

Constable commits suicide at Kohkameta Camp in Chhattisgarh

Fellow personnel immediately arranged to shift him to the district hospital in Narayanpur, but doctors declared him dead before arrival.

Statesman News Service | Raipur/ Narayanpur |

A constable, posted at a security camp in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, died on Thursday after allegedly shooting himself with his service rifle while on duty, prompting an official investigation and casting a pall of grief over the camp.

According to information released by the Narayanpur Superintendent of Police’s office, the incident occurred in the early hours at Camp Kodnar under Kohkameta police station limits. The constable, identified as Pingal Juri (Constable No. 428), reportedly fired at himself using his service rifle, sustaining a severe head injury that led to profuse bleeding. Fellow personnel immediately arranged to shift him to the district hospital in Narayanpur, but doctors declared him dead before arrival.

Police officials said preliminary findings indicate the incident appears to be a case of suicide. Initial inquiries suggest that the constable had been facing health related issues, which may have contributed to the extreme step. However, officers emphasised that this assessment is based on preliminary information and that all aspects of the case are being examined in detail.

The police administration has initiated all mandatory legal procedures, including inquest formalities and documentation, and a detailed investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances leading to the incident. “No conclusion will be drawn until every fact and circumstance has been thoroughly verified,” police officials said.

The incident has left fellow jawans at the camp deeply shaken, with colleagues expressing shock and sorrow over the sudden loss. Senior officers said the administration is closely monitoring the situation and extending necessary support to personnel, while ensuring that the inquiry is conducted in a transparent and systematic manner.

Mayawati voices concern over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

In a statement posted on X, Mayawati referred to recent incidents of communal violence in Bangladesh, including the killing of a Dalit youth, and said the anger seen on Indian streets in response was natural.

Statesman News Service | Lucknow |

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Thursday expressed deep concern over reports of attacks and alleged persecution of Hindu minorities in neighbouring Bangladesh, saying the developments have caused widespread anxiety in India and elsewhere.

In a statement posted on X, Mayawati referred to recent incidents of communal violence in Bangladesh, including the killing of a Dalit youth, and said the anger seen on Indian streets in response was natural. She urged the Government of India to take immediate and appropriate cognisance of the situation and to play a more proactive role at all levels, stating that this was the need of the hour and that the public would support such steps.

At the same time, Mayawati noted that caste-based discrimination, oppression, and violence against Dalits and Adivasis have historically continued within India as well, and that laws meant to ensure their protection have often been rendered ineffective. However, she said that atrocities against minorities in neighboring countries, particularly Bangladesh, were equally grave and deeply distressing and remained a matter of constant concern for people in India. Given recent reports of anti-India and anti-Hindu incidents in Bangladesh, she said the central government needed to act with greater seriousness and effectiveness in line with public expectations.

In a separate note, the BSP chief also shared a personal message of congratulations for the party’s National Coordinator and her nephew, Akash Anand, on the birth of his daughter. Mayawati said the news had brought joy to party members and supporters, adding that Anand’s expressed wish to raise his daughter with dedication to the Bahujan movement—on the lines of her own commitment—was a matter of pride and welcome.

Adani Group-owned Navi Mumbai airport begins operations with IndiGo flight

Ahead of the inaugural flight’s landing, the IndiGo staff cut a cake and broke coconuts, the statement mentioned.

Statesman News Service | Mumbai |

The Adani Group-owned Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) began commercial operations on Thursday with the arrival of its first scheduled flight, IndiGo’s 6E460 from Bengaluru, which landed at 8 am and was greeted with a ceremonial water cannon salute, according to an official statement.

Ahead of the inaugural flight’s landing, the IndiGo staff cut a cake and broke coconuts, the statement mentioned.

Speaking after the first commercial flight landed at the airport, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani expressed his joy, saying, “This is a very proud moment for Mumbaikars, and we are really fortunate to have the rights to develop this airport. It is a brand-new facility, and we have tried to make it a world-class airport.”

In a message to air passengers, Gautam Adani assured ease of congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport.

“Mumbai had been struggling for the past 10 years as the existing airport remained congested. The new facility will ease air traffic. The airport is here to cater to all passengers. From food to art to hospitality, everything has been carefully curated with our passengers in mind,” Gautam Adani said.

To further support passengers and ensure ease of travel, the airport has introduced location-specific digital signage that displays destination names in the local language of the city to which passengers are travelling.

Later on Thursday, NMIA handled its first outbound service as IndiGo flight 6E882 departed for Hyderabad at 8:40 am, completing the airport’s maiden commercial turnaround.

Sharing real-time updates on social media, the Adani Group wrote, “A new era for Indian aviation takes shape. After years of planning and execution, Navi Mumbai International Airport stands ready to welcome its first flight. Built to serve 90 million passengers annually by the final phase, NMIA is set to unlock new possibilities not just for Mumbai, but for the entire nation.”

On the opening day, flights operated by IndiGo, Air India Express, Akasa Air, and Star Air connected the new Mumbai airport to nine cities across the country, the airport operator said.

The airport is scheduled to handle 15 outbound flights on day one. During the initial phase, operations will run for 12 hours, with plans to scale up to 24 daily departures serving 13 destinations. At full utilisation in this phase, the facility can handle up to 10 aircraft movements, including arrivals and departures, per hour.

The project is being executed in stages through a special purpose vehicle called Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL), in which the Adani Group holds a 74% stake, while the remaining 26% is owned by Maharashtra’s city planning agency called the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). Phase-1 of the five-stage development plan has been completed at an investment of Rs 19,650 crore, the statement mentioned.

Covering an area of about 1,160 hectares, the airport will initially feature a single terminal and one runway, with the capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually.

Once all five phases are completed, the airport is expected to serve up to 90 million passengers a year, supported by dedicated cargo terminals and multimodal transport links, according to the statement.

Amit Shah lauds MP’s progress and development model

Shah was addressing the ‘Abhyudaya Madhya Pradesh Growth Summit’ organised at the Mela Ground in Gwalior today on the occasion of the 101st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Statesman News Service | Bhopal |

Emphasising that Madhya Pradesh has now become the fastest-growing state in the country, Union Home Minister Amit Shah pointed out on Thursday that the state’s rapid progress, while remaining immune to the global economic fluctuations of recent years and overcoming numerous challenges and resource constraints, inspires the entire nation.

Shah was addressing the ‘Abhyudaya Madhya Pradesh Growth Summit’ organised at the Mela Ground in Gwalior today on the occasion of the 101st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

“Today, Madhya Pradesh stands among the leading states in every field: agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, irrigation, industry, energy, tourism, healthcare, mining, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and a vast array of infrastructure”, Shah stated. He said that through its innovative thinking, entrepreneurship, progressive approach, and innovations, Madhya Pradesh has set standards for development that other states are now emulating.

The Union Home Minister stated that India is soon poised to become the world’s third-largest economy, and Madhya Pradesh will undoubtedly contribute the most to this historic achievement. Praising the state’s leadership and administrative capabilities, he said that the state has a favourable investment environment, clear policies, and a strong will. “These positive factors have contributed to Madhya Pradesh receiving the largest number of investment proposals this year, ranking it third in the country”, Shah informed.

On the occasion, Shah also performed the collective groundbreaking ceremony for thousands of industrial and manufacturing units to be established in various regions of the state with an investment cost of over Rs 2 lakh crore. From the stage, Shah inaugurated industrial development projects and road development works worth Rs 5,810 crore and distributed investment incentive assistance of Rs 725 crore to 860 large industrial units with a single click. He also released a coffee table book and an investment booklet highlighting the industrial development in Madhya Pradesh over the past two years. By pressing a remote button, the Home Minister also launched e-Zero FIR in the state to effectively handle cybercrime. Madhya Pradesh is the second state after New Delhi to do so.

The Union Home Minister also presented land allotment letters and letters of intent to four investors at the stage. These included Amitabh Bakshi, Director of McCain Group; Riju Jhunjhunwala, Chairman of LNJ (Bhilwara Group) and Green Vent Pvt Ltd, Ashish Kumar Upadhyay of K, and Rajesh Jaiswal, Vice President of Nature’s Bio Foods.

On the occasion, 57 construction works worth Rs 153.04 crore were also inaugurated in Gwalior district, and the ground-breaking ceremony of 13 construction works worth Rs 23.79 crore was also held.

The Union Home Minister said that today’s events demonstrate the rapid industrial development of Madhya Pradesh. “Enterprises establish industries, and industries create jobs, so every person gets work. This strengthens the country’s economy. Industry and the economy complement each other. Every step taken by the Madhya Pradesh government for industrial development is proving effective in improving the economy of the state and the country,” he maintained.

Shah stated that the Abhyudaya Madhya Pradesh Growth Summit, organised on the birth anniversary of the late Atal Ji, will accelerate the state’s development. He noted that the Gwalior region has provided energy and momentum to the country for years. “Even during the conflict with the Mughals, a police station was established in the Gwalior region. Tansen’s music has given new impetus to the country’s cultural heritage. This region contributed the largest number of soldiers to the army and paramilitary forces during and after independence. Gwalior itself gave us Late Atal Ji, a towering personality,” the minister said.

Lauding late Vajpayee, Amit Shah said the former PM delivered a speech in Hindi at the United Nations General Assembly, bringing honour to Hindi, and it was under his leadership too that the Tribal Affairs Ministry was established for the first time, and tribal welfare gained momentum.

Shah said that before Vajpayee became Prime Minister, the country’s infrastructure was not given due importance, but he gifted the country with road development projects and made the country a nuclear power. Shah said that the victory in the Kargil War is a testament to Atal Ji’s determined and great personality. “Atal ji was a giant of politics, a man without enemies, and a visionary in the truest sense of the word,” Amit Shah stated.

Union Home Minister Shah, while congratulating the Madhya Pradesh government and Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, said that Madhya Pradesh used to be a BiMaRU state under the opposition (Congress) party government. “Former BJP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan brought the state out of the sick state category. Now, Chief Minister Dr Yadav is working to make Madhya Pradesh a developed state,” Shah noted.

He informed that Madhya Pradesh has won the Krishi Karman Award seven times in a row, surpassing Punjab and Haryana. “Today, Madhya Pradesh has surplus electricity. Madhya Pradesh has also surpassed all others in cleanliness. Madhya Pradesh has set a record by registering more than 4.57 lakh new MSME units in a single year. Madhya Pradesh is poised to become the country’s cottage industry hub for small and cottage industries,” Shah asserted.

Shah said that the country’s first PM Mitra Park at Dhar in MP is based on the Five-F vision, and farmers will benefit the most from it. It will provide all the necessary facilities, from farm to fibre, fibre to factory, factory to fashion, and fashion to foreign export.

He said that soon India will become self-reliant in the semiconductor sector and will also export it.

“India will have 1.25 billion internet connections. The fintech sector has made a major leap forward through UPI. India accounts for 50 per cent of the world’s total digital transactions. The Indian government has achieved a major milestone in the production of the COVID-19 vaccine. Today, 60 per cent of the world’s vaccines are produced in India”, Shah informed.

Shah appealed to the youth and investors to feel free to set up their own enterprises and industries in the state. “Madhya Pradesh is so fertile that investing a few rupees here can earn crores of rupees”, Shah stated.

MP CM Dr Mohan Yadav, Union Telecommunications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and other dignitaries were also present at the event. On the occasion, Dr Yadav presented Union Home Minister Shah with a memento, a statue of Bharat Ratna, former Prime Minister, the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, made from straw. This statue of Vajpayee, created from ordinary agricultural waste like straw, conveyed a message of creativity, environmental protection, and innovation.

‘This country belongs to Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians’: Tarique Rehman’s big unity message on Bangladesh return

His remarks hold significance as they come amid the ongoing violence against Hindus and other minority communities in the country.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who returned to the country after 17 years, on Thursday sought to send out a message of unity amid the ongoing violence against minority communities, particularly Hindus, saying the country belongs to the people of all regions and religions.

Addressing a huge gathering in Dhaka’s 300 Feet, Rahman said, “Today, the people of Bangladesh want to regain their right to speak. They want to get back their democratic rights.”

He called upon the people of the country to come together to build a safe and prosperous Bangladesh. “This country belongs to people of the hills and the plains, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians. We want to build a safe Bangladesh, where every woman, man, and child can leave home and return safely.”

Rahman, the son of ailing Khaleda Zia, is seen as a strong contender for the prime minister’s post ahead of the national elections in February next year.

His remarks hold significance as they come amid the ongoing violence against Hindus and other minority communities in the country. They also come just days after the brutal lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu garment factory worker in Mymensingh, which triggered massive outrage and protests in India.

In his speech, Rahman also referred to Martin Luther King Jr ‘s historic “I have a dream” speech and said: “I have a plan.”

His plan, he further elaborated, is to build the country, and he sought cooperation from every citizen to implement it. “Only then will it be possible to implement this plan.”

With ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League banned from contesting elections, Rahman’s BNP is seen as the frontrunner to form the next government.

Rahman, however, cautioned his supporters about the conspiracies, asking them not to respond to any form of provocation.

“Agents of various dominant powers are still engaged in conspiracies. We must remain patient. We have to exercise caution,” the BNP leader added.

BJP names candidates for mayoral posts in Thiruvananthapuram polls

BJP state general secretary S Suresh announced here on Thursday that the party has decided to field V V Rajesh as the mayoral candidate.

Statesman News Service | Thiruvananthapuram |

Former BJP’s Thiruvananthapuram district president VV Rajesh has been named the party’s mayoral candidate in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation elections to be held on Friday.

BJP state general secretary S Suresh announced here on Thursday that the party has decided to field V V Rajesh as the mayoral candidate. The decision was taken after an emergency meeting held at the BJP district committee office here. Asha Nath is the deputy mayor candidate. BJP District President Karamana Jayan, VV Rajesh, R Sreelekha, and District General Pappanam Kot Saji participated in the meeting

Rajesh, the face of the BJP in the state capital, and the present party state secretary, was elected to the Thiruvananthapuram corporation from Kodunganoor ward. This is his second term as a councilor.

Until Wednesday, the discussions were progressing in such a way that former DGP R Sreelekha was the front runner for the mayor’s post. It was almost decided to field Sreelekha to the post of mayor. However, following the dramatic moves that took place in the morning, there is a twist in the selection of the candidate. The decision was changed after a section of the party strongly opposed the move to make Sreelekha the mayor. Subsequently, BJP leaders met Sreelekha and informed her about the situation. Earlier, in the wake of the dispute, discussions were also held at Sreelekha’s house. Sreelekha, who won from Sasthamangalam ward, was one of the BJP’s star candidates

It has been reported that the V Muralidhara faction of the party had complained with party president JP Nadda against the selection of Sreelekha, ignoring Rajesh. They reportedly informed the central leadership that it was not right to nominate Sreelekha to the mayor’s post, completely ignoring Rajesh. They also pointed out that making a person with no political experience might pose a problem while running the municipal Corporation. The RSS leadership also supported VV Rajesh. With this, there was a change in Sreelekha’s mayoral candidacy and the saffron party decided to nominate Rajesh to city mayor’s post

In the Thrissur Corporation, where the Congress-led UDF won a comfortable majority and where a dispute over the mayor’s post remains as in Kochi, the party has reached a consensus to give the mayor post to three leaders in three terms. DCC Vice President Dr. Niji Justin may become the mayor in the first term. Subi Babu will take the second turn while Lali James will hold the post of mayor in the last term

VP Radhakrishnan releases ‘Mahamana Vangmay’: Calls Malaviya’s legacy ‘Intellectual DNA’ of India’s renaissance

The release marks the completion of a monumental archival project, with this final series comprising 12 volumes and approximately 3,500 pages.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan Thursday released the second and final series of “Mahamana Vangmay”, a comprehensive collection of the writings and speeches of Bharat Ratna Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, at a ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam.

The release marks the completion of a monumental archival project, with this final series comprising 12 volumes and approximately 3,500 pages. The first series of the collected works was previously inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023.

Addressing a distinguished gathering, the Vice President hailed Pandit Malaviya as a “rare visionary” who balanced the preservation of Indian heritage with the requirements of a modern state.

“Mahamana Malaviya was a towering nationalist, journalist, and statesman who firmly believed that India’s future lay not in discarding its past, but in rejuvenating it,” the Vice President remarked. “He served as a vital bridge between India’s ancient values and our modern democratic aspirations.”

The Vice President emphasized that Malaviya’s commitment to scientific and technological education reflected a unique ability to harmonize the best elements of both ancient and modern civilizations.

The Vice President reflected on Malaviya’s role as an educationist, specifically citing the establishment of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) as a “living testament” to his philosophy.

“During colonial rule, Mahamana saw education as the strongest instrument of national awakening. He believed that modern education and Indian culture must grow together for a nation to truly find its soul,” Radhakrishnan stated.

He further noted that Malaviya’s emphasis on value-based and skill-oriented education is now the cornerstone of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Connecting Malaviya’s legacy to the present day, the Vice President observed that the leader’s dream of an enlightened India resonates with the current government’s missions.

The Vice President noted that Malaviya’s vision for a self-reliant nation is being championed today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The drive toward a developed India by the centenary of independence is seen as a continuation of the path laid by Malaviya, he added.
Describing the newly-released volumes as more than just a collection of texts, the Vice President called the series a “blueprint for the country’s cultural renaissance.”

“Mahamana Vangmay represents the intellectual DNA of India’s freedom struggle. I urge our universities, scholars, and young researchers to engage with these volumes, as they offer enduring solutions to many of our contemporary challenges,” he said.

NCRTC’s ‘Santa’ appeals for environmental protection & promotion of public transport

“Under this unique initiative, Santa Claus was appointed as the brand ambassador for clean mobility, who urged people for environmental protection and the adoption of public transport in an engaging and relatable manner,” a spokesperson of the NCRTC said on Thursday.

On the occasion of Christmas, and against the backdrop of severe pollution levels in Delhi-NCR, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has organised a special public awareness campaign, ‘A Green Christmas with Namo Bharat’.

“Under this unique initiative, Santa Claus was appointed as the brand ambassador for clean mobility, who urged people for environmental protection and the adoption of public transport in an engaging and relatable manner,” a spokesperson of the NCRTC said on Thursday.

The two-day awareness campaign commenced on Wednesday, December 24, intending to promote public transport and environmental protection, while also expressing gratitude to Namo Bharat commuters who are contributing to environmental conservation by choosing a clean, fast, and modern mode of transport for their journeys.

On Christmas, the Anand Vihar and Ghaziabad Namo Bharat stations were specially decorated. An attractive Christmas tree and festive elements created a joyful atmosphere across the premises. Commuters, especially children, were very happy and clicked photographs at the stations and inside Namo Bharat trains.

They also took selfies with Santa Claus. The smiles of commuters, the laughter of children, and the festive cheer made the travel experience on Namo Bharat even more special.

During the campaign, NCRTC’s ‘Santa’ travelled in Namo Bharat trains and interacted with commuters. Santa Claus thanked them for choosing public transport and distributed chocolates.

A message was also shared with them that opting for systems like Namo Bharat instead of private vehicles not only makes journeys more convenient but also significantly contributes to reducing air pollution and protecting the environment.

This awareness campaign also extended beyond the stations and onto the streets. Santa Claus interacted with people travelling by car and bike at major roads and intersections across locations, including Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad, Sahibabad, and Muradnagar.

Drivers were given chocolates along with a heartfelt appeal to contribute to reducing air pollution by making greater use of public transport. The effort sought to inspire people to integrate public transport into their daily commute in place of private vehicles.

The unique campaign became a major attraction for commuters at Namo Bharat stations, on trains, and on the roads. Messages delivered through festive engagement activities resonated strongly with the public and encouraged meaningful dialogue on environmental protection.

The NCRTC’s operational partner, DB RRTS Operations India, also actively participated in the campaign.

The Christmas initiative not only shared festive cheer but also successfully delivered a strong, positive, and inspiring message on clean mobility and the importance of public transport amid rising pollution levels in the Delhi-NCR region.

Action ‘related to security considerations’: Thailand’s clarification on demolition of idol

Thailand said that the removal of the structure was not motivated by religion, belief, or any intent to disrespect sacred symbols or any faith.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Amid row over the demolition of a Lord Vishnu Idol near Thailand-Cambodia border, Thailand, on Thursday, clarified that the removal of the said structure was not motivated by religion, belief, or any intent to disrespect sacred symbols or any faith.

In a statement shared through the Indian Embassy in Thailand, the Director of the Joint Press Center, Air Chief Marshal Prapas Sornchaidee, said, “The operation was carried out solely as part of area administration and security management, following the restoration of control over Thai sovereignty.”

Sornchaidee stated that the structure was established recently and was not an officially recognized religious site.

“More importantly, its removal was undertaken with the objective of affirming effective control of the area, reducing the risk of misunderstanding, and preventing the use of structures and symbols that could be exploited to lead to further tension,” he stated.

The Director of Joint Press Center reiterated that Thailand remains firmly committed to peaceful means, diplomacy, and responsible communication.

“The action was related to security considerations and area administration and not intended to disrespect any religion or beliefs,” the statement added.

The clarification came after India condemned the demolition, saying that “such disrespectful acts hurt the sentiments of followers around the world”.

In a statement, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Hindu and Buddhist deities are deeply revered and worshipped by people across the region, as part of our shared civilizational heritage.”

He further stated, “Notwithstanding territorial claims, such disrespectful acts hurt the sentiments of followers around the world, and should not take place. We once again urge the two sides to return to dialogue and diplomacy, to resume peace and avoid any further loss of lives, and damage to property and heritage.”

Earlier, only one family was glorified, today, everyone’s contribution is being honoured: PM

After inaugurating the Rashtriya Prerna Stha and unveiling the statues of Jan Sangh founder Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya in Lucknow, Mr Modi said the BJP’s values teach respect for everyone which no one can expect from the Congress or the Samajwadi Party.

In a blistering attack on the Congress party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled here on Thursday that there was a time when statues of only one family were installed earlier. Contrasting this, he said, today, every prominent figure is honoured. He further said that previously, only one family was glorified, while the BJP has honoured everyone’s contribution (to nation-building).

The prime minister made these remark after inaugurating the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal here, unveiling the statues of Jan Sangh founder Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee and offering floral tributes to the leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Modi said, “No one can forget how attempts were made to erase Ambedkar’s legacy. The ‘royal family’ of Delhi tried to erase it. The Samajwadi Party also did the same here, but the BJP did not allow it to be erased,” he alleged.

The Prerna Sthal features 65-foot-tall statues of Deendayal Upadhyaya, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Each statue weighs 42 tons. The Prerna Sthal was built in 65 acres of land at a cost of ₹220 crore.

PM Modi pointed out that Congress rendered the BJP untouchable while the BJP’s values teach respect for everyone. Its culture teaches us to respect everyone. Narasimha Rao and Pranab Babu were awarded Bharat Ratna. It is our government that honoured Mulayam Singh Yadav and Tarun Gogoi with national awards. No one can expect such a thing from the Congress or the Samajwadi Party. Under their rule, BJP leaders faced only humiliation.

He said that Uttar Pradesh is benefiting greatly from the BJP’s double-engine government. The state is creating its own identity in 21st-century India. “I am fortunate to be a Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh. The hardworking people of the state are writing a new future. Today, Uttar Pradesh is being discussed for its development. It is rapidly emerging on the tourism map. The magnificent temple of Lord Ram in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath Dham are establishing a new identity for Uttar Pradesh globally. Places like the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal are also establishing a new identity for Uttar Pradesh. May Uttar Pradesh achieve greater heights in the form of good governance and prosperity. With this hope, congratulations once again for the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal.

Recalling the contribution of Sardar Patel, he said he was the one who integrated the princely states into India. But after independence, he lamented that his work and stature were diminished. “The BJP gave Sardar Saheb the respect he deserved. They built the world’s tallest statue of him,” he asserted.

He said, “Tribals were not given their due place earlier. Our government built a grand memorial of Lord Bisra Munda. There are many such examples across the country. A memorial to Maharaja Suheldev was built during the BJP government. The meeting place of Nishadraj and Lord Ram was honoured,” he claimed.

“Because of this, dynastic politics tends to diminish the standing of others. This very mindset started the practice of political untouchability in India. The country has had many Prime Ministers, but the contributions of many of them have been overlooked in the museum in Delhi. If you visit Delhi today, the magnificent Prime Minister’s Museum welcomes you. Every Prime Minister has been given due respect and support,” he said.

The prime minister said that the inspiration and visionary work of these three great men are the foundation of a developed India. “These statues are infusing us with new energy. We must not forget that in India, a tendency to associate every work with a single family flourished. Previously, only one family was glorified, with statues erected only for them. This was the way it was. The BJP has freed the country from this tendency of being held hostage by one family,” he added.

He said that the BJP honoured everyone’s contribution. “Today, a statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose adorns Delhi’s Kartavya Path Path of Duty. Another statue of Netaji stands where he hoisted the tricolor in the Andamans. No one can forget that attempts were made to erase Ambedkar’s legacy. Delhi’s royal family attempted to erase it. The Samajwadi Party also did the same here. But the BJP did not allow it to be erased,” he asserted.

PM Modi said, “Atalji was the one who accelerated telecom development in India. Today, India is one of the countries with the largest number of internet and mobile users in the world. Wherever Atalji is, he would be happy with this. In 11 years, India has become the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer.”

“Atalji had a vision of connectivity which was the strength of 21st-century India. It was during his tenure that the campaign to provide roads to every village began. The Golden Quadrilateral campaign also began. Today, 800,000 km of roads have been completed in villages. Our Uttar Pradesh is establishing itself as a state of expressways. Atal ji initiated the Metro. Today, the Metro is making life easier for millions of people,” he pointed out.

PM Modi said, “Before 2014, 25 crore people were covered by government schemes. Today, 95 crore people are covered by this security shield. A large number of people in Uttar Pradesh have benefited from these schemes. Just as only a few people have bank accounts, so too.”

“Today is Atalji’s 101 birthday. It’s also a day of good governance. For a long time, slogans like “Remove Poverty” were considered good governance. But Atalji truly implemented good governance. Today, digital is so much talked about. He laid its foundation,” he added.

PM Modi said, “As independent India’s first Industry Minister, Dr. Mukherjee laid the foundation for economic self-reliance. He formulated the first industrial policy. He laid the foundation for industrialization in India. Look, in Uttar Pradesh, the One District, One Product” campaign is underway. The capabilities of small units are increasing. A massive defense corridor is being built in Uttar Pradesh. The BrahMos missile, which was showcased in Operation Sindoor, is now being manufactured in Lucknow. The day is not far when Uttar Pradesh’s defense corridor will be known worldwide.”

He also recounted how, decades ago, Pandit Deendayal envisioned Antyodaya (the ideal of Antyodaya). He believed that India’s progress would be measured by the smile of the person in the last row. “today, on this holy day, I pay my respectful homage to Mahamana Malviya, Atal ji and Maharaj Bijli Pasi,” he said.

“Today, I have the opportunity to inaugurate the RashtriyaPrerna Sthal. This site symbolizes the spirit that showed India the path of self-respect, unity, and service. The monumental statues of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Deen Dayal Upadhyay, and Atalji are as tall as the inspiration they convey,” he said, adding,

PM Modi began his speech with “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” an concluded on “Vande Mataram” chant.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on December 25, 1924, and passed away on August 16, 2018. He was one of the co-founders and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
