This is the third such incident of the death of illegal coal miners in the collieries of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) in the past week. While three illegal coal miners were officially killed in Narayankuri, Raniganj, two illegal coal miners were killed in Nirsa colliery, ECL.
At least three illegal miners died and as many as a dozen others are feared trapped in land subsidence at an open cast coal mine of Eastern Coalfields Limited in Raniganj in West Burdwan district late last night.
"Two fire engines have been put in service to extinguish the fire. We hope to bring the situation under control soon," fire officials said.
ED has already taken his bodyguard, Sehgal Hussein to New Delhi. He is now lodged in jail.
Most of the properties are in the name of his deceased wife and now belong to his only daughter, sources said.
