Before the teaser went live, Ranveer kept fans glued to their screens with a tweet promising the drop at 12:12 pm Tuesday. Earlier that morning, a blood-soaked poster hit social media showing Hamza drenched in rain and rage, a man on a mission for revenge against Pakistan’s crimes.

The teaser itself is mostly a throwback. It’s the end-of-movie montage from ‘Dhurandhar’, featuring Night Rider-style music and flashbacks of Ranveer’s journey from a clean-shaven young man to the feared Dhurandhar we all know. The official logline reads: “Yeh naya Hindustan hai. Yeh ghar mein ghusega bhi aur maarega bhi.”

The first ‘Dhurandhar’ smashed records. The film crossed ₹1,000 crore at the Indian box office and later moved to Netflix, which director Aditya Dhar called a “new chapter” for the franchise.

Since its theatrical release on December 5, the film kept pulling in audiences, cementing its place as the highest-grossing single-language Hindi film in India.

Co-stars like Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi only added to the star power.

‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’ release date

March 19 isn’t just Hamza’s day. It’s a full-blown Bollywood clash. ‘Dhurandhar 2’ will go up against Yash’s ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ and ‘Dacoit’, starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur.

Moviegoers will have a tough choice, and the box office is expected to light up like fireworks.

Before the teaser hit, Ranveer kept fans on the edge of their seats, tweeting Monday that it would arrive at exactly 12:12 pm on Tuesday. Early morning, a blood-soaked poster appeared on social media showing Hamza drenched in rain and fury; a man on a mission to avenge Pakistan’s crimes against India.

The teaser itself, however, doesn’t reveal anything new. It’s essentially the end-of-movie montage from the first ‘Dhurandhar’ complete with Night Rider-style background music and flashbacks of Ranveer’s journey from a clean-shaven young man to the feared Dhurandhar we know.

The official logline says: “Yeh naya Hindustan hai. Yeh ghar mein ghusega bhi aur maarega bhi.”

Dhurandhar box office to streaming success

The first ‘Dhurandhar’ wasn’t just a crowd-puller; it was a record-breaker. After raking in over ₹1,000 crore in theatres, the film moved to Netflix on Friday, marking what director Aditya Dhar called a “new chapter” for the franchise.

The movie kept drawing audiences long after its December 5 release becoming the highest-grossing single-language Hindi film in India.

And for those who can’t get enough of Ranveer and his co-stars Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. The film is also available in Tamil and Telugu.

Sequel buzz and CBFC nod

Fans are already hyped for ‘Dhurandhar 2’, set to hit theatres on March 19. The second teaser has received an A (Adults Only) certificate from the CBFC.

After the jaw-dropping success of the first film, expectations for Hamza’s return are sky-high.

What films will clash with Dhurandhar 2

March 19 is shaping up to be a big day for Bollywood. ‘Dhurandhar 2’ won’t just have fans. It’ll face stiff competition from Yash’s ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ and ‘Dacoit’, starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur.

Ruckus in Kerala Assembly; shouting matches, physical jostling over Sabarimala case

Intense protests by the opposition forced repeated adjournments, turning the House into a scene of shouting matches, physical jostling and unprecedented disorder.

IANS | New Delhi |

The Kerala Assembly was thrown into chaos on Tuesday as the ruling front and the opposition clashed sharply over allegations that the investigation into the Sabarimala gold smuggling case was being deliberately derailed, and the protest ended with Leader of Opposition (LoP) V.D. Satheesan leading the entire opposition out of the house for the day.

Intense protests by the opposition forced repeated adjournments, turning the House into a scene of shouting matches, physical jostling and unprecedented disorder.

The trouble began when opposition members boycotted the Question Hour and descended into the well of the House holding placards and banners, accusing the government of sabotaging the probe.

As the protest escalated, a group of opposition MLAs led by Anvar Sadath attempted to rush towards the Speaker’s dais and later tried to enter the Speaker’s chamber.

Watch and Ward personnel intervened, leading to pushing and shoving inside the House.

Amid the mounting uproar, Speaker A.N. Shamseer rose from his chair and walked out, forcing a temporary suspension of proceedings.

LoP V.D. Satheesan alleged that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Sabarimala gold smuggling case had reached a dead end due to interference from the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s office.

He accused the police of facilitating default bail for all high-profile accused and claimed that the prime accused, Unnikrishnan Potti, would walk free soon.

According to Satheesan, pressure from the Chief Minister’s Office had shaped the course of the investigation.

Declaring that the opposition could not cooperate with Assembly proceedings under such circumstances, he announced that protests would be intensified both inside and outside the House.

As opposition MLAs continued their demonstration in the well, Speaker Shamseer warned that the banners must be lowered or they would be forcibly removed.

The ruling front responded aggressively. Minister M.B. Rajesh dismissed the protest, alleging that the opposition was “suffering from a lack of issues” and did not even have an adjournment motion to move.

He accused the opposition of insulting democratic institutions and mocked it for venting frustration in the Assembly after setbacks in the High Court in cases, including Sprinklr.

Ruling front members moved close to the well of the House and raised slogans against the opposition, further inflaming tempers.

Despite the House reconvening later in the morning, the din continued, forcing another adjournment.

The bitter war of words and physical confrontations underscored the deepening political fault lines, with the Sabarimala gold smuggling case emerging as a flashpoint that paralysed the Assembly and set the tone for an increasingly confrontational session.

Elon Musk confirms SpaceX is acquiring xAI

Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX has acquired his artificial intelligence (AI) start-up xAI, the billionaire entrepreneur said.

ANI | New Delhi |

Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX has acquired his artificial intelligence (AI) start-up xAI, the billionaire entrepreneur said.
Musk’s note about the deal to acquire xAI was posted by the rocketmaker and shared on his social media platform X.

Musk’s xAI owns and operates his social network X after he merged those two entities last year.
According to a Bloomberg report the combined company of SpaceX and xAI has a valuation of USD1.25 trillion, and SpaceX plans to Initial Public Offering (IPO) later this year.
A CNBC report said that the merger deal between SpaceX and xAI was completed on Monday.
Musk had expanded xAI by merging it with his social network X, which used to be known by the name Twitter. Incidentally, xAI’s main product Grok is under investigation in the EU over its AI image generation feature, with concerns that it was used to create sexualised images. xAI has stated that it has imposed restrictions on Grok users that limit image editing.
Meanwhile, in his note on the SpaceX and XAI merger, Musk said the combination would form an “innovation engine” putting AI, rockets, space-based internet, and media under one roof.
This marks not just the next chapter, but the next book in SpaceX and xAI’s mission: scaling to make a sentient sun to understand the Universe and extend the light of consciousness to the stars!” Musk said.
According to the SpaceX press release, the merger will eventually allow placing AI data centres in space, powered by solar energy.

Musk said, “My estimate is that within 2 to 3 years, the lowest cost way to generate AI compute will be in space. This cost-efficiency alone will enable innovative companies to forge ahead in training their AI models and processing data at unprecedented speeds and scales, accelerating breakthroughs in our understanding of physics and invention of technologies to benefit humanity.”
“This new constellation will build upon the well-established space sustainability design and operational strategies, including end-of-life disposal, that have proven successful for SpaceX’s existing broadband satellite systems.”
The merger follows after SpaceX last week filed an official request with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to deploy and operate a constellation of up to one million satellites designed as orbital data centres with unprecedented computing power for advanced AI models and applications.

Scotland’s T20 World Cup preparations begin as Head coach names coaching staff

On Monday, Scotland men’s head coach Owen Dawkins confirmed his coaching team and support staff for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

While the ongoing T20 World Cup row has thrown the tournament into uncertainty, one team that has benefited from the situation is Scotland, even if this wasn’t the way they would have wanted to qualify.

On Monday, Scotland men’s head coach Owen Dawkins confirmed his coaching team and support staff for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India.

Dawkins, along with men’s assistant coach Gordon Drummond, was appointed in December 2025. The duo will be supported by Moneeb Iqbal, Paul Tweddle and Zac Bess during the tournament.

“I’m delighted to confirm the Scotland coaching team for this T20 World Cup campaign,” Dawkins said.

“Given the extremely short notice we had to build a staff for the tournament, it was important for us to provide a staff with a number of different experiences to work alongside Gordon and myself, and it’s great to see we’ve assembled a high-quality group.”

Dawkins also highlighted the value Iqbal and Tweddle bring to the squad.

“Moneeb and Paul both bring huge value in their different areas. Moneeb has good awareness of much of the playing squad having worked with them across the last few years including at the last World Cup in the Caribbean.

“Paul brings great experience and success from his time at Somerset and having previously toured with England. I’m excited to have him lead on our fielding during the tour and know the players will gain lots from him.”

The Scotland head coach also praised the support staff for adjusting quickly to the sudden call-up, with Scotland receiving the ICC invitation to compete in the marquee tournament just 10 days ago.

“Our support staff have been operating at a high level… and it’s this flexibility with all our staff that will help us be successful as a squad,” Dawkins added, while thanking Head of Performance Steve Snell for putting the structure together at short notice.

Among the support staff, Dr Raj McRea-Routray will serve as team doctor, Gary Metcalfe as physiotherapist, and Fiona Rae as team manager.

Iqbal, a former Scotland international, will take up the role of spin coach for a second successive Men’s T20 World Cup, having been part of Scotland’s coaching setup at the 2024 edition in the West Indies and USA.

Tweddle, Somerset’s fielding and assistant coach, was part of the coaching staff that guided the county to T20 Blast titles in 2023 and 2025. He has also served as interim head coach at Taunton and worked with England Lions.

Meanwhile, Bess will take charge as strength and conditioning coach, a role he currently performs with Nottinghamshire. He has previously worked with Worcestershire and has franchise cricket experience with Trent Rockets in The Hundred.

8 ‘unruly’ Congress Lok Sabha MPs suspended for Budget Session; Priyanka calls move ‘ridiculous’

Ruckus was witnessed in Parliament on Tuesday, on the third day of the Budget Session. Amid debate on the motion of ‘Thanks to the President’s Address’, the Lok Sabha faced repeated adjournments over the issues of the India-US ‘trade deal’ as well as over the matter of Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi again raising the India-China issue.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Ruckus was witnessed in Parliament on Tuesday, on the third day of the Budget Session. Amid debate on the motion of ‘Thanks to the President’s Address’, the Lok Sabha faced repeated adjournments over the issues of the India-US ‘trade deal’ as well as over the matter of Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi again raising the India-China issue. The Lok Sabha was adjourned yesterday after a heated exchange between the Congress and the ruling BJP over former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane’s “unpublished” book on the 2020 India-China border skirmishes. The debate had started after Rahul Gandhi repeatedly sought to raise the alleged details of the Chinese aggression along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh in 2020.

Earlier today, the Congress party had asked the Central government to take Parliament into confidence on the recent US and EU trade deals. Congress MP KC Venugopal gave an Adjournment Motion notice in Lok Sabha to discuss the India-US trade agreement, claiming “adverse consequences” for Indian industries and farmers. Last night, India and the United States announced the trade deal reducing tariffs on Indian goods’ export to the US to 18 per cent.

Sand Mining case: Massive ED raids in West Burdwan

On a day when a hearing was scheduled at the Supreme Court regarding the raid on the office and residence of I-PAC head Prateek Jain in Kolkata, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted one of its largest search operations in recent times, targeting the money trail linked to illegal sand mining mafias in West Burdwan district.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

On a day when a hearing was scheduled at the Supreme Court regarding the raid on the office and residence of I-PAC head Prateek Jain in Kolkata, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted one of its largest search operations in recent times, targeting the money trail linked to illegal sand mining mafias in West Burdwan district.

Several teams of ED officials carried out raids at multiple locations in Jamuria, Raniganj, Pandaveswar, Durgapur and Kanksha police station areas under the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC) from early this morning. This is being described as the biggest-ever operation by the ED against illegal sand mining in the district.

The raid on the residence of sub-inspector Manoranjan Mondal, who was recently appointed officer-in-charge of Budbud police station by Commissioner of Police Sunil Kumar Chaudhury, created a major stir. Mondal’s house, located in the posh City Centre area of Durgapur, was searched as part of the operation.

SI Manoranjan Mondal is the first police officer in West Bengal whose residence has been searched in connection with an illegal sand mining case. Earlier, he had been suspended from his post as OC of Barabani police station under ADPC after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during an administrative meeting some time ago, warned of strict action against police personnel involved in illegal sand and coal trades.

In Jamuria, the ED allegedly seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 65 lakh from the residence of local businessman Rajesh Bansal. During the search operation, the ED reportedly called in additional officers and brought currency-counting machines from the State Bank of India’s Jamuria branch.

Although no arrests have been reported so far and the ED has not issued any official statement regarding the total amount seized during raids conducted at around ten locations in West Burdwan today, searches were carried out at the houses, offices and godowns of several individuals, including Prabir Dutta, Sheikh Hasan, Mirza Beg, Sheikh Kiram Mondal and Sheikh Maizul.

Sources said the ED is investigating money transaction trails and identifying influential individuals allegedly backing the large-scale illegal sand mining operations along the banks of the Damodar and Ajay rivers in West Burdwan district.

According to ED sources, hundreds of trucks transport illegally mined and overloaded sand every day from both legal and illegal sand ghats operating across the district. False challans are allegedly being used to facilitate this lucrative business in sand mining areas spread across the Asansol Sadar and Durgapur sub-divisions.

In Burnpur, a decade-old drinking water pumped storage project on the Damodar River at Kalajharia, under the Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC), collapsed around six months ago, allegedly due to unscientific illegal sand mining. Villagers from 56 surrounding villages staged protests today over the acute drinking water crisis. Despite the passage of six months, the AMC engineers have failed to restore the project.

Even the IISCO Steel Plant, along with the Burnpur township and factory, has faced severe water shortages in recent times due to reduced water flow from the Damodar river, allegedly caused by rampant illegal sand mining. Local residents alleged that while sand mining operations halt briefly following police raids, the business resumes after a short lull.

PCB keeps ICC in the dark on T20 World Cup India match boycott, won’t write officially: Report

Adding another twist, reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not willing to officially convey this decision to the International Cricket Council (ICC) at the moment.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

The T20 World Cup row continues as Pakistan has clarified its stance on its participation in the tournament. While the team will take part in the T20 World Cup, it will not play the high-profile match against India scheduled for February 15 in Colombo.

The decision was announced through the Pakistani government’s official social media handles, stating that the team “shall not take the field” for the specific fixture.

Adding another twist, reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not willing to officially convey this decision to the International Cricket Council (ICC) at the moment.

According to Telecom Asia Sport, the PCB has chosen to remain on the warpath over the boycott issue and will not communicate the decision formally to the ICC in order to maintain suspense over its next course of action. The report quoted sources as saying there is no need for an official letter since the decision has already been communicated through a government platform.

“Since it’s a government decision and conveyed through an official platform, there is no need to write to the ICC,” sources told www.telecomasia.net.

On Sunday, the Shehbaz Sharif government confirmed that Pakistan will participate in the T20 World Cup, hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. However, it reiterated that the team will not take the field against India, a fixture widely regarded as the tournament’s biggest revenue generator. The boycott could reportedly result in advertising losses estimated between Rs 200 and 250 crore.

A PCB source further questioned the need for written communication, pointing to India’s past stance.

“Did India at any point convey to the ICC that they will not travel to Pakistan? And when it was demanded that India show a government letter, they never showed it. So is there a need to give anything in writing? No,” the source told Telecom Asia Sport.

The PCB’s refusal to formally notify the ICC is being seen as a deliberate attempt to keep the issue alive. With the decision coming directly from the government, the Board appears unwilling to consider any ICC appeal or compromise solution to avoid the boycott.

The move has sent shockwaves through the cricket world, as the ICC could face a massive financial hit if the highly anticipated clash does not take place, a situation that could also lead to legal proceedings.

In response, the ICC reportedly warned the PCB that selective participation would not be accepted, stating it undermines the integrity of the sport. The Board could face serious consequences if it refuses to play the fixture.

However, Telecom Asia Sport reported that the Pakistan government has already taken legal advice on the potential fallout and is expected to back the PCB against any possible ICC action.

The report also stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met former PCB chief Najam Sethi before meeting current chairman Mohsin Naqvi in Lahore on Sunday.

“Sethi also advised the PM to take strong action against India, as under Sethi’s chairmanship India also backed out on an agreement in 2016,” the report quoted sources as saying.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan team flew to Colombo on Monday and reached the island late in the evening.

The PCB is also reportedly preparing to confront the ICC head-on, with Naqvi expected to insist on legal representation during any ICC meetings. Sources added that the Board will allow a lawyer to accompany its officials in discussions, indicating it is ready to take the issue to the next level.

‘I wish time had stopped’: Ajit Pawar’s son Jay Pawar’s note as Maharashtra navigates grief and power shift

Jay Pawar’s brief farewell to his father Ajit Pawar has gone viral, even as Maharashtra witnesses swift political changes following the former deputy chief minister’s sudden death.

Statesman News Service | Mumbai |

Maharashtra is still coming to terms with the sudden death of former deputy chief minister and NCP president Ajit Pawar. Amid the shock and the fast-moving political realignments that followed, a deeply personal message from his son Jay Pawar has struck an emotional chord online.

Jay Pawar shared two photographs with his father on his WhatsApp status. The message was brief, raw, and unfiltered by public language. “I miss you so much. Dad, I wish time had stopped; I would have held you in a tight hug and stayed like that forever. Missing you a lot, Dad!”

A screenshot of the status has since gone viral on social media.

A low-profile heir in a high-voltage moment

Jay Pawar has largely stayed away from the spotlight. He has worked within the family’s cooperative-linked businesses and has supported the NCP during Lok Sabha, Assembly, and recent municipal elections. Party workers in Baramati often describe him as media-shy and inclined to keep a low profile.

That reserve has only sharpened the impact of his message. At a time when political reactions have dominated headlines, Jay’s words cut through with their simplicity.

Grief, succession, and a swift political reset

Ajit Pawar’s death in a plane crash in Baramati triggered immediate political churn within Maharashtra and the NCP. The family, even as it mourned, was pushed into the centre of unfolding decisions.

His wife, Sunetra Pawar, a Rajya Sabha member, was sworn in as the state’s deputy chief minister. She was also given charge of the ministries earlier held by her husband, including Excise, Sports, and Minority Development.

On Monday, Sunetra Pawar visited Karad to pay tribute at the memorial of Yashwantrao Chavan before returning to Baramati. On Tuesday, she is scheduled to be at the family residence, ‘Sahyog’, in Katewadi, where condolence visits will be accepted until 4 pm.

Speaking earlier, Sunetra Pawar framed her new role as a continuation of her husband’s political philosophy. “Respected Ajitdada has given the mantra of living one’s entire life for farmers, labourers, women, youth, and deprived sections…” she said, adding that she would carry forward his ideals rooted in “Shiv-Shahu-Phule-Ambedkar”.

She also acknowledged the personal cost. “Though the untimely passing of Dada has caused a mountain of sorrow to crash upon my heart…” she said, pointing to public trust and duty as the strength guiding her forward.

People of both countries will benefit: Nirmala Sitharaman, Ashwini Vaishnaw hail India-US trade deal

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that the India-US trade deal will benefit the people of “two large democracies” and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump for reaching an agreement.

IANS | New Delhi |

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that the India-US trade deal will benefit the people of “two large democracies” and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump for reaching an agreement.

Taking to X, Sitharaman said, “Good news for Made In India products. They will now face reduced tariff of 18 per cent. Thanking the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump for this development. People of our two large democracies stand to benefit.”

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, also took to social media and welcomed the trade deal between India and the US.

“US and India are world’s largest democracies. Both countries are natural allies. Together, India and US have huge potential to work for peace and development. US and India have complementary strengths. Both countries can co-create technologies and co-develop solutions that will benefit the world,” Vaishnaw posted on X.

“Trade deal between US and India will lead to brighter future for both countries. India-US Trade deal is a win-win deal. Citizens and industries of both countries will benefit greatly from this deal,” he added.

Earlier on Monday, Trump said a phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi led to the deal, cutting US tariffs on Indian goods to 18 per cent and easing Indian trade barriers on US products.

Trump said India would also stop buying Russian oil and increase purchases of US energy, technology and agricultural products. He said the agreement would strengthen ties between the two countries and support efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

PM Modi also took to X and said, “Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today. Delighted that Made in India products will now have a reduced tariff of 18 per cent. Big thanks to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for this wonderful announcement.”

He said that when two “large economies” and the “world’s largest democracies” work together, “it benefits our people and unlocks immense opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation”.

Hailing President Trump’s “leadership” in advocating for global peace, stability, and prosperity, the Prime Minister said, “India fully supports his efforts for peace”.

“I look forward to working closely with him to take our partnership to unprecedented heights,” PM Modi added.

Elon Musk criticises casting of Black star Lupita Nyong’o in ‘The Odyssey’: ‘Chris Nolan has lost his integrity’

Elon Musk has stirred up controversy by criticising the casting of Black star Lupita Nyong’o in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’. His comment, “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity,” has sparked accusations of racism online.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Elon Musk is stirring the pot again with Christopher Nolan! The SpaceX and Tesla chief has weighed in on the latest movie gossip, and, predictably, it has ruffled some feathers.

On Saturday, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to vent his disapproval over a rumour that Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o is set to play Helen of Troy in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of Homer’s epic, ‘The Odyssey’.

His comment? “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity.”

The billionaire didn’t just post this on his feed. He responded to a fan’s comment about the casting. And the comment he replied to was… let’s say… eyebrow-raising in its own right.

The X user’s take on Helen of Troy

The fan claimed Helen of Troy was “fair-skinned, blonde, and the face that launched a thousand ships”. They insisted that casting Nyong’o would somehow insult Homer himself despite the fact that the poet has been dead for thousands of years. Oh, and this same fan had a soft spot for Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle ad. So the thread had a very particular energy.

Musk, ever the provocateur, jumped right into the fray, echoing the fan’s outrage, though it’s unclear whether he was serious or just enjoying the chaos.

Nyong’o has dazzled audiences in ‘Black Panther’, ’12 Years a Slave’, and countless other films. She can embody any role with grace and power.

Elon Musk is not new to making racist claims. His tweets in the past have made several problematic claims against minorities.

Sabrina Carpenter criticised by animal rights group PETA after dove appearance during Grammy performance

Sabrina Carpenter’s Grammy performance made headlines not for her music, but for holding a live dove on stage. PETA slammed the pop star, calling the act “cruel” and urging celebrities to leave animals out of awards shows.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

It was supposed to be a dreamy Grammy moment. Flashing lights, a sleek airplane prop, and pop star Sabrina Carpenter floating through her performance like a music-video fantasy. But just when fans were soaking in the drama of it all, one small white bird stole the spotlight and not in a good way. By the end of the night, animal rights group PETA was fuming, social media was buzzing, Sabrina’s Grammys moment had turned into a full-blown controversy.

During her performance of the song ‘Manchild’ at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, the 26-year-old singer leaned fully into an aviation theme. At one point, Sabrina stepped into an airplane prop, adding to the theatrical feel of the act. Then came the surprise element. She appeared holding a white dove on stage.

The image was striking and symbolic. Doves often represent peace and freedom. But to some viewers, it raised an uncomfortable question. Should a live bird be part of a loud, high-pressure awards show performance?

PETA fires off a furious reaction

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals did not waste time responding. Shortly after the show, the organisation called out Sabrina in a sharp post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Did Sabrina Carpenter really just bring a bird on stage in 2026?!” the group wrote, accusing the singer of “childlike behavior” and urging celebrities to leave animals out of the Grammys.

The post included a photo of Sabrina holding the dove mid-performance.

PETA didn’t stop there. In another message shared alongside the same image, the organisation referenced lyrics from ‘Manchild’ to make its point even clearer and harsher.

According to PETA, bright lights, loud sounds, and being handled in front of a huge crowd can scare and stress birds. The group said the dove belonged “flying free in the open sky,” not on a Grammy stage.

The tone was blunt, emotional, and impossible to ignore.

Not PETA’s first celebrity showdown

If this feels familiar, that’s because it is. PETA has a long history of calling out famous faces when animals are involved.

Late last year, the group criticised Kim Kardashian for gifting her children North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm some Pomeranian puppies for Christmas. They also slammed Kim’s sister Khloé Kardashian for buying a black Labrador puppy for her kids, True and Tatum.

Ingrid Newkirk, PETA’s founder, went as far as calling those gifts “inexcusably callous,” saying puppies are not toys and urging celebrities to adopt from shelters instead.

A role that marked a turning point

Revisiting her decision to sign the film, Lisa said agreeing to Kasoor felt like stepping into her own strength.
“Twenty-five years of Kasoor. When I said yes to this film, it felt like stepping into my power — quietly but decisively,” she wrote, highlighting the rarity of a layered female character, emotional depth, and a narrative free from Bollywood’s usual song-and-dance formulas.

Unlike many mainstream films of the late 1990s, Kasoor leaned into mood and inner conflict rather than spectacle — something Lisa says made it stand apart from its time.

Going against industry advice

The actress revealed that she was actively discouraged from taking up the project, with many warning her that audiences were not ready for darker narratives or strong women at the centre of the story.

“In the ’90s, I was told this film wouldn’t work — that it was too dark, too internal, and that no one wanted to watch a strong female character,” she recalled, adding pointedly, “Well… here we are.”

Collaborations that mattered

Lisa also expressed gratitude for the collaborators who trusted the film’s quiet intensity. She praised co-actor Aftab Shivdasani for his sincerity and commitment, calling their collaboration deeply fulfilling.

He also took to his Instagram and penned an emotional message for the film.

She further thanked director Vikram Bhatt and the Bhatt family for believing in the film’s emotional stillness at a time when it was far from an obvious commercial choice.

Music that became timeless

Reflecting on the soundtrack, Lisa described Kasoor’s music as eternal, something that continues to live on through memories of love, heartbreak, and youth.

“These songs have woven themselves into people’s lives — first loves, long drives, stolen moments. That kind of resonance can’t be manufactured,” she noted.

A film that quietly shifted narratives

Looking back, Lisa believes Kasoor played a small but meaningful role in reshaping how women could be portrayed on screen. “It wasn’t perfect, but it was purposeful,” she said, adding that the film’s emotional tone and performances are what allowed it to endure.

Most of all, she credited audiences for keeping the film alive in memory. “Strong female stories don’t fade,” Lisa wrote. “They wait. And then they last.”
