The WPL 2026 will be played across two venues – DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai and BCA Stadium in Vadodara.

IANS | New Delhi |

Tickets for the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) matches in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara will go on sale from December 26 at 6 pm IST, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement on Thursday.

The WPL 2026 will be played across two venues – DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai and BCA Stadium in Vadodara.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named District as the official ticketing agency for the fourth edition of the exciting TATA WPL. Tickets can be purchased from the official WPL website, WPL app on Android and iOS, and also on the District website,” further said the BCCI.

The tournament begins on January 9 when defending champions Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, host 2024 winners Royal Challengers Bengaluru, captained by Smriti Mandhana. Navi Mumbai will stage 11 matches till January 17 before the action shifts to Vadodara for the remaining 11 fixtures, including the playoffs.

Gujarat Giants will open the Vadodara leg with a clash against RCB, followed by a rematch of the 2025 final between Delhi Capitals, to be led by Jemimah Rodrigues, and Mumbai Indians. Once the league stage concludes on February 1, the Eliminator, contested by the second- and third-placed sides, will be held on February 3. The table topper advances directly to the final, to be played on February 5.

Set to be staged for the first time in the January-February window, the WPL avoids clashes with major women’s international cricket fixtures after three seasons were held in the February-March slot.

Two-time winners Mumbai Indians enter as defending champions, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the only other side to have lifted the WPL trophy. Delhi Capitals have finished runners-up thrice, with Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz yet to reach a final.

The upcoming 2026 season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is the fourth season of the event, which started in 2023. The Mumbai Indians Women are the most successful team, having won two titles in three years, while the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is the other team to have won the WPL title.

MCG records 94,199 crowd on Boxing Day Test as 20 wickets fall

The figure surpasses the previous MCG record of 93,013, set during the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) witnessed history on the opening day of the 2025 Boxing Day Test, recording a massive crowd of 94,199 spectators, the highest attendance ever for a cricket match at the venue.

The figure surpasses the previous MCG record of 93,013, set during the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand. It also establishes a new benchmark for the highest-attended single day of Test cricket, eclipsing the 91,112 fans who attended Day 1 of the 2013 Boxing Day Test between Australia and England.

With Days 2 and 3 sold out, the cumulative attendance for the ongoing Boxing day Test is now on track to challenge the all-time Ashes record of 271,865, also set at the MCG in 2013, although it has not yet been surpassed.

Dramatic day 1 on the field

The historic crowd was treated to a frenetic opening day, as 20 wickets fell on a lively green surface. Australia, sent in to bat first, were bowled out for 152 before tea, with Josh Tongue leading England’s attack with an impressive five-wicket haul (5/45). Michael Neser top-scored for Australia with 35 in testing batting conditions.

However, England once again failed to capitalise on early dominance. The visitors were skittled out for just 110 inside 30 overs, with Harry Brook’s counter-attacking 41 the lone resistance. Australia’s bowlers shared the spoils, with Neser finishing with four wickets, Scott Boland claiming three, and Mitchell Starc striking twice early.

At stumps on Day 1, Australia held a slender 46-run lead, reaching 4 without loss in their second innings, setting the stage for another compelling chapter in the Boxing Day Ashes Test.

Remembering Manmohan Singh, the man who rescued the Indian economy

Ten years before he died, in 2014, as Singh demitted office as Prime Minister after a crushing electoral defeat, he remarked with a touch of bitterness, “History will judge me (more) kindly”. Indeed, it will.

Jayanta Roy Chowdhury | New Delhi |

A year ago, on Boxing day, India’s 13th prime minister Manmohan Singh passed away, leaving behind a tremendous legacy which had earned him both admirers and detractors.

Ten years before he died, in 2014, as Singh demitted office as Prime Minister after a crushing electoral defeat, he remarked with a touch of bitterness, “History will judge me (more) kindly”. Indeed, it will.

When Manmohan Singh became India’s Finance Minister in 1991, the country was weeks away from bankruptcy. The collapse of the Soviet union had wiped out a major trading partner, while the Gulf War had seen global oil prices soaring.

The country had just a little more than a billion dollars in its forex kitty, which meant it had just enough foreign exchange to finance three weeks of imports. Moody’s had slashed India’s sovereign rating to junk status, and inflation had surged to nearly 14 per cent, hitting the country’s large middle class hard.

Called upon at a moment of national crisis, the economist-turned- central bank governor acted decisively. One of Singh’s first moves was to devalue the rupee in two tranches by nearly 20 per cent, incentivising exports and helping India earn the desperately needed foreign exchange to stay afloat.

As Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996 in Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao’s Cabinet, Singh became the architect of India’s liberalisation. He brought in India’s version of ‘Perestroika’, dismantling the bureaucratic ‘License-Permit Raj’ that had long stifled growth.

The results were phenomenal: the stagnant Indian economy soared like a Phoenix to heights unheard of till then. India’s GDP growth which had averaged just 3.5 per cent annually till then, rose dramatically to over 7 per cent, at times going past 8.5 per cent.

These reforms had deep social consequences. The automobile industry flourished as global and domestic manufacturers set up factories across the country. Cars became affordable for the middle class, while two-wheelers reached lower-income households. Families once dependent on overcrowded public transport could now own Marutis, Daewoos, or Tatas, symbols of a changing India.

Rising incomes improved dietary habits, increasing protein consumption, while electronic gadgets, once luxuries due to the high prices relative to incomes, became household essentials as competition drove costs down.

Perhaps most significantly, Singh opened India to the world. International investors flocked to the country encouraged by a new growth story in a nation known for its huge population base. At the same time, Indian companies expanded overseas, showcasing India’s goods, talent, and expertise, vowing the world with its offering of trained IT personnel and cheaply produced mass market goods.

The nation re-emerged as a global economic force, transitioning from a tightly controlled stuttering economy into the age of technology, artificial intelligence, and robotics.

However to dismiss Singh as just an “economic mandarin-turned premier” would be the understatement of a century.

He proved to be a skilled politician and a respected global statesman. In 2004, when Congress President Sonia Gandhi declined the prime ministership, Singh assumed the office. He allowed her to manage party affairs while he focused on governance, supported Pranab Mukherjee, who with his vast experience oversaw much of the government’s day-to-day functioning.

One of Singh’s key achievements was bringing India into the global nuclear fold. Despite becoming a nuclear power in 1974, India had remained internationally isolated.

Singh’s negotiations with the United States culminated in the historic civil-nuclear agreement, placing India within an exclusive global club, despite fierce opposition from Left allies who eventually withdrew their support to his government.

The successful negotiations with the US placed India in the exclusive nuclear club, despite strong opposition from his Leftist allies, who deserted him over the deal, forcing him to choose Mamata Banerjee’s TMC over the CPI(M) as his ally.

After the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Singh used diplomatic strategy to isolate Pakistan’s rulers and their proxies, transforming a regional issue into a global one. This allowed India to gain new allies and strengthen its position, without resorting to military action.

However, Singh’s second term was marred by growing public discontent as corruption scandals involving Cabinet ministers eroded trust, while sustained parliamentary obstruction by an assertive opposition led to policy paralysis and a relative economic slowdown.

Senior BJP leader Lal K. Advani famously labelled him India’s “weakest Prime Minister.” Singh stood by his record, asserting that his government had acted in the nation’s best interests.

Where Singh truly struggled was in navigating the art of image building. He failed to effectively communicate his achievements, and many of his policies were only fully appreciated years later.

Despite this, over time, many will remember Singh for the lasting positive changes he brought to India’s economy and society, often without much fanfare. History will likely judge him far more favourably as the years unfold, for transforming the country, freeing it from bureaucratic controls and economic stagnation, while opening the door to a new age of opportunities.

Raj Babbar remembers playing Sardar Udham Singh on the freedom fighter’s 126th birth anniversary

Veteran actor Raj Babbar looks back at his powerful experience of portraying legendary freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh on the occasion of the revolutionary’s 126th birth anniversary.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

On the 126th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh, veteran actor Raj Babbar looked back at one of the most meaningful roles of his career.

The actor shared memories of playing revolutionary hero and spoke about how deeply this character has stayed with him even years after the film’s release.

A role that went beyond acting

Raj Babbar played Sardar Udham Singh in the 1999 Punjabi film ‘Shaheed Uddham Singh’. For him, this was not just another role. It was a journey into history, pain, courage, and sacrifice.

Babbar said portraying Udham Singh was both thrilling and emotional as it carried the weight of a nation’s trauma and pride.

According to the actor, stepping into the shoes of a real-life freedom fighter came with a huge responsibility. He felt he was not only acting for the screen, but also honoring the memory of a man who gave his life for justice.

Remembering the pain of Jallianwala Bagh

On Friday, Raj Babbar took to Instagram and shared a throwback video from the film. Along with it, he wrote a heartfelt note remembering the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He described the incident as an injustice not just against Indians, but against all humanity.

Babbar pointed out that while the British government later punished General Dyer for massacre, pain and anger of Indians remained.

That unfinished chapter, he said, was closed by Sardar Udham Singh, who carried the fire of justice in his heart for years.

“A thrill I still feel today”

In his message, Babbar shared how playing Udham Singh still gives him goosebumps. He wrote that the experience continues to thrill him even today. For him, Udham Singh represents fearless courage, unbreakable resolve, love for the nation.

The story behind the legend

Sardar Udham Singh was born in 1899 in a village in Punjab. He dedicated his life to avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Years later, he traveled to England and assassinated Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, who was linked to the tragedy.

Raj Babbar’s film was released in December 1999, just days before Udham Singh’s birth centenary.

Tamil Nadu is a distinct place of its own, its communal harmony rankles BJP the most: MK Stalin

Describing Tamil Nadu as a distinct place of its own, Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin on Friday said communal harmony and peace in the state are what rankle the BJP the most, but the saffron party’s attempts at getting a foothold in the Dravidian land would remain a pipe dream so long as he is there.

MC Rajan | Chennai |

Describing Tamil Nadu as a distinct place of its own, Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin on Friday said communal harmony and peace in the state are what rankle the BJP the most, but the saffron party’s attempts at getting a foothold in the Dravidian land would remain a pipe dream so long as he is there.

“Within India, Tamil Nadu is a place of its own. It stands for equal treatment of all religions, and there is no place for orchestrating religious violence as it is happening in other states. Communal harmony in the state is what rankles the BJP. The people of Tamil Nadu will chase away the Parivar, even if they come with many more slaves, and so long as this Stalin is there, your attempts at gaining a foothold will never succeed,” the Chief Minister said at a government function at Kallakurichi, after inaugurating completed projects and laying the foundation for new ones in the district.

“If the iconic schemes and developmental programmes of the Dravidian Model Government stand for developed India, there is another India, reeling under poverty, communal violence, mob lynching, attempts at destroying education, and unemployment. The latter is the India of the BJP,” he said, asserting, “The verdict of the electorate in the 2026 assembly election will be the crowning glory for the achievements of the DMK government.”

“The BJP government has created a situation where the differently abled and children are being attacked even on Christmas Day. And they are trying to bring that model here as well. But our people are very much conscious of this. Devotees of Lord Murugan continue to worship the flag hoisted at the Sikkandar Badusha Dargah atop the Thiruparankundram hillock (at the foothills is a famed temple of Murugan). Muslim brethren at Masjids offer rose milk to the Hindu devotees swarming Madurai for the Chithirai festival (Visit of Kallazhagar – Vishnu – to the city and the celestial wedding of Meenakshi with Sundareswarar). Christians celebrate Pongal festival on the first day of the Tamil month ‘Thai’ by cooking Pongal at churches,” he said, adding, “For Christmas and Ramadan, Hindu friends would ask where is the cake? Where is biryani?”

“It is this unity that continues to rankle the BJP, bent upon creating divisiveness among the people through communal hatred. They might perform somersaults but cannot instigate religious hatred among the people living in harmony. So long as our Dravidian model government is there, you cannot succeed in orchestrating communal violence. The people of Tamil Nadu will chase you away with their votes. Whatever may be your designs and theatrics, your ambition will never fructify,” he made it clear.

Turning his ire at the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Chief Minister said, “Many deceased are still in the voter list. Many who have lived in the same address for over half a century, including prominent journalists, have been excluded from the Draft Voter List. That is why we were opposed to the SIR being carried out in a haphazard manner,” he said and asked those whose names have been left out in the draft voter list to apply immediately to get enrolled. Further, he assured that the DMK and the Dravidian Model Government will stand by the people to protect the right to vote of everyone and India’s democracy.

Centre opposes PIL seeking lower GST on air purifiers, says could open ‘Pandora’s box’ and undermine GST Council

The Centre on Thursday opposed a plea seeking reduction of GST on air purifiers, during a fresh hearing at the Delhi High Court.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

The Centre on Thursday opposed a plea seeking reduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on air purifiers, during a fresh hearing at the Delhi High Court. It told the court that any judicial intervention could open a “Pandora’s box” of similar demands across sectors and undermine the statutory role of the GST Council.

A Division Bench of Justices Vikas Mahajan and Vinod Kumar was hearing a PIL that seeks reclassification of air purifiers as medical devices, which would attract a lower GST rate. Additional Solicitor General N. Venkataraman, appearing for the central government, questioned the maintainability of the petition. He argued that it was “not a PIL at all” and that the court should first examine who was behind it.

The ASG submitted that the issue had already been considered “at the highest level, including by the Finance Minister,” and stressed that classification of goods and fixation of GST rates fall exclusively within the domain of the GST Council. Any change, he argued, must follow a detailed statutory process involving regulation, licensing, and deliberation by all stakeholders, and could not be directed through a writ petition.

Objecting to the reliefs sought, the ASG said the petition impermissibly asked for directions to the GST Council and even sought a declaration that air purifiers are medical devices, despite the Health Department not being a party to the case. He added that entertaining such petitions could trigger similar claims from multiple industries. Seeking time, he requested permission to file a comprehensive counter-affidavit, stating that the government could not be expected to respond substantively within two days.

The Bench, however, repeatedly flagged the public health dimension of the issue. Referring to the severe air pollution in Delhi and the surrounding region. The court observed that air purifiers currently cost between ₹10,000 and ₹15,000 and asked why GST could not be reduced to make them more affordable. “Do whatever you have to do,” the court remarked, noting that the concern stemmed from the prevailing pollution crisis.

The petitioner Advocate Kapil Madan said the litigation was not adversarial and clarified that he was not seeking abolition of tax but correct classification. He argued that a plain reading of GST notifications showed that air purifiers were wrongly placed under Schedule II, attracting a higher tax rate, whereas all medical devices fall under Schedule I. The Bench noted the Union’s position that air purifiers are not medical devices. It observed that the core issue was that a policy call needed to be taken by the GST Council.

When the court asked what prevented the GST Council from considering the issue, the ASG reiterated that there was a defined procedure and informed the court that a recommendation of a Parliamentary Standing Committee on the subject was already under consideration. He also submitted that if the Council were to meet, it would have to do so physically.

Holding that the matter had wide public ramifications and that no interim or final relief could be granted without the Centre’s response, the Bench directed the Union government to file a detailed counter-affidavit within 10 days, with liberty to the petitioner to file a rejoinder thereafter.

The case has been listed for further hearing on 09 January 2026, with the court requesting that it be taken up expeditiously after the winter vacation.

BJP leader Dushyant Gautam asks U’khand Home Secretary to remove ‘audio’ clip maligning his political image from social media

Gautam demanded that strict action be taken against the campaign.

PRITHVIRAJ SINGH | Dehradun |

BJP national general secretary and Uttarakhand in-charge Dushyant Gautam has asked the state home department to act against the alleged misleading campaign against him. He has demanded that the state Home Secretary ban 47 social media channels.

Reacting to the allegations of a woman claiming to be the wife of former BJP MLA from Haridwar Suresh Rathore, the BJP national general secretary has written a letter to Uttarakhand Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli stating that a misleading campaign is going on against him on social media. Gautam demanded that strict action be taken against the campaign.

The letter sent by the senior BJP leader on Thursday stated that “Some antisocial elements have made a fake audio of mine as a part of their criminal conspiracy. The fake audio is being used to denigrate my political and social honour, as it’s being used in several mainstream and social media outlets.” In his letter, he provided a list of 47 Facebook identities, social media handles, Instagram identities, YouTube channel addresses, and X accounts and asked that a ban be imposed on them.

The BJP national general secretary alleged that he was being targeted through these social media accounts and channels. Gautam asked the Uttarakhand Home Secretary to remove the controversial audio from social media and issue necessary directives to the social media platforms and news channels concerned.

A television actress from Haridwar, claiming to be a BJP worker and wife of the expelled party MLA from Haridwar’s Jwalapur, had in one of her Facebook reels claimed that Gautam was the ‘VIP’ who visited Vanantara Resort in Rishikesh a night before 19-year-old receptionist Ankita Bhandari was killed in September 2022.

The main accused, Pulkit Arya, a resort owner, and his two associates involved in the killing of the receptionist were sentenced to life imprisonment by the court after a one-and-a-half-year trial this year. The prosecution had alleged in the court that the accused men forced Ankita Bhandari to provide “extra service” to a “VIP”, which was refused by the deceased girl.

CFG divests its shareholding in Mumbai City FC amid uncertainty over future of ISL, Indian domestic football

Mumbai City FC is in the ISL and was being administered by CFG to since 2019, which also owns Manchester City, Melbourne City, and New York City, among others.

ANI | New Delhi |

Mumbai City FC announced that the City Football Group Limited (CFG) has “divested its shareholding” in the club, and the founding owners of the club will control the club fully moving forward.

This move by CFG comes amid uncertainty over the future of Indian domestic football, with its tier-one and tier-two leagues, the Indian Super League (ISL) and I-League failing to find any bidders. Mumbai City FC is in the ISL and was being administered by CFG to since 2019, which also owns Manchester City, Melbourne City, and New York City, among others.

In a statement, Mumbai FC announced, “Mumbai City FC (the Club) can confirm that City Football Group Limited (CFG) has divested its shareholding in the Club. The founding owners will assume full control of the organisation moving forward.”

Since 2019, CFG and Mumbai City FC have reached new heights — winning two ISL League Winners’ Shields and two ISL Cup titles, strengthening the Club’s football operations, and making meaningful contributions to the growth of the game in India.

“CFG has made this decision following a comprehensive commercial review and in light of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the future of the Indian Super League (ISL). This step reflects CFG’s disciplined and strategic approach — ensuring its focus remains on areas where it can have the greatest long-term impact,” added the statement.

“CFG remains proud of the achievements and deeply appreciative of everyone connected to Mumbai City FC — from players and coaches to staff, fans, and partners — for their commitment and passion, and looks forward to continuing its relationships and partnerships in India in the years ahead,” the statement concluded.

The bid submission deadline for the Request for Proposal (RFP) to award the right to monetise the commercial rights for the Indian Super League (ISL) ended in early-November, with no bids received within the time frame.

AIFF had issued the Request for Quotation for awarding the right to monetise the commercial rights belonging to the federation on October 16.

Back in September, the Supreme Court approved the proposal shared by AIFF and its commercial partner, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), for the resumption of the Indian Super League (ISL), the country’s top-tier football league, which is currently on hold. The proposal shared by AIFF and FSDL outlined two key points: tenders would be conducted to find a commercial partner for organising the ISL, which was supposed to start in December, and the second point was that the 2025-26 season would begin with the Super Cup, as per ESPN.
The Supreme Court had sought a timely start to India’s 2025-26 football season, including the Super Cup and had urged the AIFF to take whatever steps were needed to ensure the same. They had approved the issuing of tenders for ISL, with former Justice Nageswara Rao being appointed to oversee the process.

On August 22, the Court instructed AIFF and FSDL to meet and submit a roadmap for the league’s future. The discussions between the two parties took place in Bengaluru on August 25, resulting in a proposal that outlines two key decisions. AIFF and FSDL agreed to conduct an open and transparent tender to select a commercial partner for running the ISL, with the process to be managed by an independent professional firm.

Significantly, FSDL had also agreed to waive its right of first negotiation and right to match the winning bid. This will also make NOC for the conduct of this tender. This opened the possibility of a new player entering the Indian football ecosystem if FSDL either chooses not to bid or is outbid during the tender process. FSDL, backed by Reliance, has been the driving force behind the ISL for a decade, transforming it from a two-month quasi-exhibition tournament into India’s top-tier football league.

The ISL, which is usually held from September to April, had been put on hold due to ongoing differences between the AIFF and the board’s partner FSDL . The issue between AIFF and FSDL stems from the unresolved contractual matters. The 15-year Master Rights Agreement (MRA) between AIFF and FSDL will expire at the end of this year. In July this year, the AIFF claimed that they had, in a timely manner, first initiated the process of requesting negotiations on the terms of a potential renewal with FSDL on November 21, 2024. Thereafter, senior representatives of the AIFF and FSDL convened meetings on February 5 in New Delhi and subsequently on March 5 in Mumbai to discuss the terms of potential renewal of the MRA.

These deliberations, a proposal was submitted by FSDL on March 5, to which AIFF responded with a counter-proposal on April 21. However, the AIFF had been restrained from negotiating the renewal of the MRA until the Supreme Court delivers the verdict on the AIFF draft constitution case.

Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries cross 10.35 Crore in 2025: Petroleum Ministry

A major highlight of the year was the continued expansion of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), under which beneficiaries providing access to clean cooking fuel rose to about 10.35 crore by December 1, 2025.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas recorded significant progress in expanding clean energy access, strengthening fuel infrastructure, and advancing reforms across the oil and gas sector during 2025, according to its Year-End Review released on Friday.

A major highlight of the year was the continued expansion of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), under which beneficiaries providing access to clean cooking fuel rose to about 10.35 crore by December 1, 2025.

To achieve near-universal coverage, the government approved the release of an additional 25 lakh LPG connections during FY 2025–26. The eligibility process was also simplified through a single Deprivation Declaration, making access faster and more inclusive.

Affordability remained a key focus, with PMUY beneficiaries receiving a targeted subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for up to nine refills annually.

This support contributed to a steady rise in LPG usage, with per capita consumption increasing to a pro-rated level of about 4.85 refills per year in FY 2025–26, reflecting sustained adoption of clean cooking fuel.

Consumer safety was reinforced through a nationwide Basic Safety Check campaign, during which more than 12.12 crore free safety inspections were conducted, and over 4.65 crore LPG hoses were replaced at discounted rates.

The initiative significantly enhanced awareness and safety standards in domestic LPG usage across the country.

The Ministry also strengthened fuel retail and mobility infrastructure. Over 90,000 retail outlets were enabled with digital payment facilities, supported by more than 2.71 lakh POS terminals, while doorstep fuel delivery expanded through over 3,200 bowsers.

Electric mobility received a boost with the installation of nearly 9,000 EV charging stations under the FAME-II scheme, along with more than 18,500 additional chargers set up by oil marketing companies.

Progress was also recorded in the gas sector, with the operational natural gas pipeline network expanding to over 25,400 km by June 2025, moving the country closer to a fully connected national gas grid.

City Gas Distribution coverage increased to 307 geographical areas, with PNG connections reaching about 1.57 crore and CNG stations exceeding 8,400.

In the biofuels segment, ethanol blending in petrol reached an average of 19.24 per cent in 2024–25, resulting in cumulative foreign exchange savings of over Rs 1.55 lakh crore and notable reductions in carbon emissions.

Reforms in the upstream sector, including the Oilfields Amendment Act and updated petroleum rules, further supported domestic exploration and energy security.

Kate Winslet-Leonardo DiCaprio ‘Titanic’ bond leaves girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti feeling frustrated: Reports

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio share a legendary Titanic-era friendship that has lasted decades. His girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti, says navigating their bond sometimes leaves her feeling frustrated and overshadowed.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

It looks like Leonardo DiCaprio’s legendary friendship with Kate Winslet might be causing some sparks in his romance with Vittoria Ceretti. The model, who has been dating the ‘Titanic’ star for over two years, reportedly isn’t thrilled about Kate’s constant advice-giving.

Sharing Leo’s attention

A source close to the couple told the National Enquirer, “Vittoria isn’t worried about a romantic connection between Leo and Kate. She just doesn’t like having to share him with another woman.”

The tension isn’t about jealousy in the classic sense. It’s about the dynamic between Leo and his long-time friend.

DiCaprio, 51, and Winslet, 50, have been inseparable since their Titanic days. Their bond is so strong that Leo even walked Kate down the aisle when she married her third husband, Ned Rocknroll, back in 2012.

While this may seem like a sweet display of friendship, it apparently ruffles Vittoria’s feathers.

Kate’s advice gets under Vittoria’s skin

Sources reveal that Vittoria respects their history but feels Kate meddles a little too much. “Leo jumps every time Kate calls or texts,” the insider says. “And when Vittoria brings it up, he becomes defensive, which leads to arguments.”

The 27-year-old model reportedly struggles with the fact that Leo seems to weigh Kate’s opinions more than hers.

“Whenever there’s a bump in their relationship, he ends up bringing up what Kate thinks or what she once told him about love,” the source explains.

For Vittoria, it feels less like a partnership and more like a comparison to an idealised Kate Winslet.
