Shane and Ilya are signed for three seasons
When the first season premiered, fans were eager to see more of Shane and Ilya’s journey. Luckily, both Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie signed contracts to appear in three seasons of ‘Heated Rivalry’.
According to GQ Hype’s Mickey Rapkin, “Both actors signed on for three seasons; Crave has already greenlit season two.”
It’s worth noting, however, that contracts don’t always guarantee story focus. As with any TV production, if a show fails commercially, studios may rethink plans. But with season 1 being a hit, fans can breathe easy.
There’s every reason to believe Williams and Storrie will remain central figures, even if a future season shifts its spotlight to other characters, much like Netflix’s ‘Bridgerton’ where past leads occasionally step back to supporting roles while new stories take the stage.
What’s the story for ‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2?
In a playful promo video released by HBO Max, Shane and Ilya were seen opening a package containing a hockey puck labeled “Heated Rivalry Season 2.” Williams described the new season with his signature humor: “hotter, wetter, longer.”
But the real insight came from Storrie, who revealed that season 2 will adapt Rachel Reid’s ‘The Long Game’, the sixth and final book in her ‘Game Changers’ series.
For readers familiar with Reid’s novels, ‘The Long Game’ reunites Shane and Ilya more than a decade after their first romance began in ‘Heated Rivalry’, the series’ second book.
The twist? These two are still closeted and have been hiding their love for 11 years. The strain of secrecy has taken a toll setting the stage for emotionally charged drama in the upcoming season.
“Start reading ‘The Long Game’ if you want to spoil it for yourself,” Storrie teased.
‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2: Release date and platform
HBO Max will continue to stream ‘Heated Rivalry’ in the United States, according to Casey Bloys, CEO and content chairman of HBO and HBO Max.
Interestingly, Bloys confirmed that HBO does not play a creative role in the show’s production.
Timing is always tricky in TV production, and Jacob Tierney is taking a cautious approach. “It can’t be same time next year, because this time last year I’d written five of these, and this time this year I’ve written zero of them,” he told ‘Variety’.
This suggests that ‘Heated Rivalry’ season 2 won’t premiere until early 2027, roughly two years after the first season.
