RAJU MANSUKHANI | New Delhi |

In today’s turbulent time and age, when women across our world are responsibly discharging their duties as Presidents and Heads of State, industrialists and entrepreneurs, social activists and sarpanches, we acknowledge and applaud this spectrum of socio-political change witnessed over the last one hundred years. International Women’s Day, marked this week, is also the perfect occasion to recall the contribution of women thinkers-philosophers and educationists like Sister Nivedita who wrote voluminously on ‘education’ and ‘education for women.’

Not a coincidence that Prof Sugata Bose, hailing from the illustrious family of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, recently lauded Sister Nivedita’s role in harmonizing different streams of thought of Swami Vivekananda and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Sister Nivedita played a pivotal role in ensuring that philosophical foundations laid by these iconic personalities were implemented as action plans. What is significant today, and a pointer to the multiple crises affecting our modern education system, is her emphasis on ‘national education’, ‘nation-making’ and ‘education for women’.

Published in 1923 is the compilation of her papers and essays titled ‘Hints on National Education in India’, an invaluable resource for those drawing upon the past to build a new future. In ‘Paper on Education ~ V’, Sister Nivedita spelt it out: “The reconstitution of a nation has to begin with its ideals. This, because in a nation three primary elements have to be considered, first the country, or region, second, the people, and third, the national mind. Of the three, the last is dominant, and all-directing.

By working through it, we may modify or even re-create either or both of the other two while their influence upon it is comparatively feeble and indirect. Mind can re-make anything, however inert or rebellious, but a rebellious mind, what can reach? It follows that in national reconstruction there is no other factor so important as education. How is this to be made national and nationalising? What is a national education? And conversely, what is un-national? And further what kind of education offers the best preparation for the attempt to solve the national problems? What type of education would be not only national, but also nation-making?” With her focus on national education, she wrote, “A national education is, first and foremost, an education in the national idealism.

We must remember, however, that the aim of education is emancipation of sympathy and intellect. This is not often reached by foreign methods. By this fact of the attainment of the universal, must the education ultimately stand justified, or condemned. To emancipate the greatest number of people most easily and effectively, it is necessary to choose familiar ideals and forms, and in every case, it is necessary to make progression absolutely continuous, so that there be no sharp incongruity amongst the elements of early experience. Such incongruity begets confusion of thought, and this confusion is educational chaos. “A national education then, must be made up of familiar elements. The ideals presented must always be first clothed in a form evolved by our own past. Our imagination must be first based on our own heroic literature.

Our hope must be woven out of our history. From the known to the unknown, from the easy to the difficult, must be the motto of every teacher, the rule of every lesson. The familiar is not the goal; knowledge is the goal: trained faculty is the aim. An education that stopped short at the familiar would be a bondage instead of an emancipation; a mockery not a reality. The familiar is merely the first step. But as the first step, it is essential. Geographical ideas must be built up first through the ideas of India. But they must not stop there.” Each phrase embodying the thoughts of Sister Nivedita is relevant and important in our age when Artificial Intelligence is the new cloud on the horizon of knowledge.

“It must never be forgotten that nationality in culture is the means, not the end. There is a level of achievement where all the educated persons of the world can meet, understand and enjoy each other’s associations. This level is freedom. Intellectually speaking, it is mukti. But it can be reached only by him whose knowledge is firm ~ rooted in love for mother and motherland,” she wrote, with characteristic flourish. In an earlier ‘Paper on Education ~ IV’, she had emphasized that “education in India today, has to be not only national, but NATION-MAKING. We have seen what a national education is ~ a training which has a strong colour of its own, and begins by relating the child to his home and country, through all that is familiar, but ends by making him free of all that is true, cosmopolitan, and universal.

This is the necessary condition of all healthy education, in all countries, whatever their political position or stage of development. These general statements are as true of England and France, as of India, as true in happiness as in adversity.” On ‘The Future Education of the Indian Woman’, Sister Nivedita was clear in the clarion call she made. “In making the school as much an essential of the girl’s life, as it has always been of the boy’s, we are establishing something which is never to be undone. Every generation as it comes will have to carry out the great task of the next generation’s schooling. Much in the problem of Woman’s Education as we today see it, is difficulty of the time only. We have to carry our country through an arduous transition.

Once the main content of the modern consciousness finds its way into the Indian vernaculars, the problem will have disappeared, for we learn more from our Mother tongue itself, than from all our schools and schoolmasters. In order to bring about that great day, however, the Mother Herself calls for vows and service of a vast spiritual knighthood. Hundreds of young men are necessary, to league themselves together for the deepening of education in the best ways amongst women. Most students, perhaps, might be able to vow twelve lessons in a year to be given either in home or village, during the holidays this should hardly prove an exhausting undertaking yet how much might be done by it.” Sister Nivedita presented the constructive elements within the ambit of idealism.

“What is the type of woman we most admire? Is she strong, resourceful, inspired, fit for moments of crisis? Have we not Padmini of Cheetore, Chand Bibi, Jhansi Rani? Is she saintly, a poet, and a mystic? Is there not Meera Bae? Is she the queen, great in administration? Where is Rani Bhowani, where Ahalya Bae, where Janhabi of Mymensingh? Is it wifehood in which we deem that woman shines brightest? What of Sati, of Savitri, of the ever-glorious Sita? These ideals moreover are constructive. That is to say, it is not their fame and glory that the Indian child is trained to contemplate. It is their holiness, simplicity, sincerity, in a word, their character.

This, indeed, is always a difference between one’s own and an alien ideal. Impressed by the first, it is an effort that we seek to imitate: admiring the second, we endeavour to arrive at its results. There can never be any sound education of the Indian woman, which does not begin and end in exaltation of the national ideals of womanhood, as embodied in her own history and heroic literature.” It is not glorification of the woman, for Sister Nivedita spoke about efficiency and duty: “Woman must undoubtedly be made efficient. Sita and Savitri were great in wifehood, only as the fruit of that antecedent fact, that they were great women. There was no place in life that they did not fill graciously and dutifully. Both satisfied every demand of the social ideal.

Perfect wives as they were, if they had never been married at all, they must have been perfect just the same, as daughters, sisters, and disciples. This efficiency to all the circumstances of life, this womanhood before wifehood, and humanity before womanhood, is something at which the education of the girl must aim in every age.” There was a moral ideal for Sister Nivedita who had witnessed the Swadeshi movement in Bengal and felt the pulse of a new nation being born. She wrote, “the moral ideal of the India of today has taken on new dimensions ~ the national and civic.

Here also woman must be trained to play her part. And again, by struggling towards these she will be educated. In order to achieve the ideal of efficiency for the exigencies of the twentieth century, a characteristic synthesis has to be acquired. lt is no longer merely the spiritual or emotional content of a statement that has to be conveyed to the learner, as in the mythologico-social culture of the past. The student must now seek to understand the limitations of the statement, its relation to cognate ideas and the steps by which the race has come to this particular formulation. The modern synthesis, in other words, is scientific, geographical, and historical, and these three modes of knowing must ~ since there is no sex in truth ~ be achieved by woman as by man.”

Trump says Iran’s navy and air defences destroyed

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that American forces have inflicted devastating damage on Iran’s military infrastructure, claiming that Tehran has lost much of its naval and air defence capability as US strikes intensified during the ongoing conflict.

IANS | New Delhi |

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that American forces have inflicted devastating damage on Iran’s military infrastructure, claiming that Tehran has lost much of its naval and air defence capability as US strikes intensified during the ongoing conflict.

Speaking to reporters before departing the White House, Trump described the operation as unprecedented in scale and effectiveness, asserting that Iranian military assets had been severely degraded.

“Our military is the best. It’s the most powerful in the world, and they’re hitting them very hard,” Trump said. “Right now, they have lost their navy, they’ve lost their airport. They have no anti-aircraft at all. They have no radar. Their leaders are gone, and we can do a lot worse.”

The President suggested that the United States had deliberately refrained from destroying certain remaining targets, warning that further action could cripple Iran’s ability to rebuild.

“We’re leaving certain things that if we take them out, and we can take them out by this afternoon, in fact, within an hour, they literally would never be able to build that country,” he said.

Trump also highlighted what he described as the destruction of much of Iran’s naval capability during the campaign.

“I would say it was big and ineffective. But every one of their ships, just about all of their navy is gone,” he said.

The President later reiterated the scale of the military action, claiming US forces had dismantled several layers of Iranian defence.

“Well, we’ve knocked out their navy, we’ve knocked out the Air Force. We’ve knocked out all of their anti-defence,” Trump said. “Nobody has ever seen anything like it.”

Asked whether the United States was prepared to halt operations if Iran did not meet US conditions, Trump signalled that the campaign could continue.

“We have hit them harder than virtually any country in history has been hit, and we’re not finished yet,” he said.

During the exchange with reporters, Trump urged Congress to pass the proposed SAVE AMERICA Act, a major election reform bill focused on voter identification requirements.

“It is the SAVE AMERICA Act. It’s the most popular bill I think I’ve ever put before,” he said. “It’s voter ID, and it’s voter you have to be able to be a citizen to vote. It’s called citizenship.”

The President added that the legislation would include provisions restricting transgender participation in women’s sports and tightening rules around mail-in voting.

On foreign policy beyond Iran, Trump criticised Spain’s defence contributions within NATO, suggesting Washington could reconsider trade ties.

“I think they’ve been very bad. Very bad, not good at all,” Trump said. “We may go to trade with Spain; all trade with them. I don’t know what Spain is doing. They’ve been very bad to NATO.”

Trump also touched on the Middle East, saying the United States was working to curb the influence of Hezbollah in Lebanon.

“We love Lebanon. We love the people of Lebanon, and we’re working very hard. We got to get rid of the Hezbollah has been a disaster for many years,” he said.

Separately, the President praised plans for a major oil refinery project in Texas, calling it an unprecedented development in the US energy sector.

“It’s going to be the greatest anywhere in the world. There’s never been anything like it,” Trump said.

Gulf nations call for UNSC condemnation of Iran; say they intercepted 954 missiles, 2,500 drones, 17 planes

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have collectively intercepted more than 954 Iranian missiles, 2,500 drones, and 17 aircraft, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative Jamal Fares Alrowaiei said, announcing a move to seek a Security Council condemnation of Tehran.

IANS | New Delhi |

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have collectively intercepted more than 954 Iranian missiles, 2,500 drones, and 17 aircraft, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative Jamal Fares Alrowaiei said, announcing a move to seek a Security Council condemnation of Tehran.

He said that the attacks on the six-member GCC are “disturbing trade and maritime routes, having an impact on regional and international economy, affecting everyone.”

The Iranian attacks were targeting “residential buildings and areas, food distribution facilities, airport, ports, energy installation and critical civilian infrastructure”, he said, speaking to reporters alongside other GCC diplomats outside the Council chambers on Wednesday (local times).

Bahrain is currently an elected member of the Council

The resolution, proposed by the GCC countries and Jordan, is scheduled to be taken up by the Council later on Monday.

If it comes to a vote, its adoption would depend on Russia and, perhaps, China, which have veto powers.

Moscow is likely to block the resolution, especially because the draft does not say anything about the US and Israel, which launched the initial attack last month.

United Arab Emirates Permanent Representative Mohamed Abushahab said that even though the UAE made “crystal clear that our land, airspace and territorial waters would not be used to attack Iran”, Tehran went ahead to attack his country.

The UAE deployed its defence resources to confront them, and “without those capabilities one can only imagine the damage and loss of lives that would have resulted from Iran’s reckless and unlawful attack”, he said.

The people who were affected by the Iranian strikes came from 25 countries, he said.

His message to Iran, he said, was “no force of hate or extremism will ever change the UAE model of tolerance and mutual coexistence”.

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke on Tuesday with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and “expressed deep concern at the regional spill-over and the impact of the ongoing conflict on the global economy”.

Guterres’ Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said during the call, “he recalled the need for all sides to fully respect international law and international humanitarian law, as well as to refrain from any attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure”.

The secretary-general had earlier met envoys of the GCC countries and had a phone call with Qatar’s Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

One Piece Season 3 release date

Fans who waited between the first two seasons know patience is part of the journey.

The gap between Season 1 and Season 2 stretched to around two and a half years, largely because of the Hollywood labour strikes in 2023.

– Continued involvement from the Marines

The Alabasta arc in the anime runs across 39 episodes.

New characters joining the adventure

Season 3 will also introduce some exciting new faces.

Netflix has confirmed that Xolo Maridueña will appear as Portgas D. Ace. His arrival is already being teased as a significant moment for story.

Another new addition is Cole Escola who will portray Bon Clay which is another memorable figure from the Alabasta storyline.

Their roles hint that upcoming season will dive deeper into complex alliances and rivalries of pirate world.

Straw Hat crew returns

Along with new cast members, familiar crew of Straw Hat Pirates will return for next chapter of the adventure.

Confirmed cast members include:

– Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy

Her comments triggered widespread concern in the industry. Soon, fellow actor Dhananjaya also backed the complaint by pointing out that many women attending film events had faced similar situations.

Film chamber steps in with emergency meeting

Responding to growing concern, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce called for meeting on March 9.

The discussion was led by chamber president Jayamala and involved Central Mediation Committee along with representatives from the film fraternity. Artists, digital media members, public relations professionals also attended.

The meeting followed a formal written complaint submitted by Sapthami Gowda and Dhananjaya. In the complaint, they highlighted how certain photographers and online content creators were filming female artistes at film and public events in ways they described as indecent and humiliating.

Industry members present at the meeting discussed the issue at length and examined possible solutions.

Strict warning issued to paparazzi and content creators

After the discussion, the Chamber made its stance very clear. Such incidents, it said, should not happen again.

The body warned that if similar behaviour is reported in the future, those responsible for allowing media access at events, including event publicists, would also be held accountable.

The Chamber further stated that repeat incidents could lead to formal complaints being filed with cybercrime authorities, potentially resulting in legal action.

Digital media representatives promise change

During the meeting, representatives from digital media platforms and the PRO community addressed the concerns raised by the Chamber and actors.

According to the official statement released after the meeting, both groups assured the Chamber that objectionable photos and videos would no longer be uploaded in the future.

The assurance was welcomed by members of the film fraternity who attended the discussion.

Existing objectionable content removed

The digital media and public relations representatives also took immediate steps regarding previously uploaded material.

As per the Chamber’s summary of the meeting, they confirmed that objectionable photos and videos that had already been posted online were removed. The move was intended to reduce further embarrassment or discomfort for the actors involved.

Sonu Sood warns young drivers after rising road accidents: ‘Speed can end someone’s life’

A split second of speed can change many lives forever. Sonu Sood’s emotional warning reminds young drivers that responsibility matters more than thrill.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

At a time when shocking road accident stories seem to appear in the news almost every day, actor Sonu Sood has stepped in with a message that is simple but deeply emotional.

Known for helping people during difficult times, the actor is now asking young people to slow down and think before they press the accelerator.

Instead of giving lectures or quoting statistics, Sood chose to speak directly from the heart. Through a social media post, he addressed the growing culture of reckless driving among youngsters and reminded them that few seconds of thrill can destroy many lives forever.

A post shared by Sonu Sood (@sonu_sood)

A direct message to the young generation

Sharing a video message on social media, Sonu Sood made his stand very clear. He wrote in the caption:

“Your parents gave you life, not the right to risk someone else’s. Underage driving isn’t cool. It’s dangerous.”

The actor used the post to speak directly to young drivers who often treat speed like a symbol of confidence or freedom. Instead, he urged them to understand the serious responsibility that comes with sitting behind the wheel.

Pedestrians’ lives are in drivers’ hands

In the video, Sood delivered a powerful message about how fragile life can be on the road.

“I want to give a message to our new generation. We are living in a time where the lives of pedestrians are in your hands,” he said.

The actor explained that a driver’s actions, the speed of pressing the accelerator and the timing of applying the brake, can decide whether someone in front survives or not.

While speaking about road safety, Sonu Sood also referred to recent tragic incidents in Pune and Delhi, where young lives were lost due to reckless driving. These accidents have once again raised serious questions about speeding, underage driving, and lack of responsibility behind the wheel.

“An attempt was made on the life of Dr Farooq Abdullah, former CM/President of J&K National Conference, when he was attending a marriage ceremony at Royal Park, Greater Kailash, Jammu. The security personnel of JKP and NSG, who were deployed with the protectee, immediately swung into action and thwarted the attempt. The accused, identified as Kamal Singh, S/o Ajit Singh, R/o Purani Mandi, Jammu, was taken into custody. The firearm used in the crime has also been recovered from the accused’s possession. Cognisance has been taken, and further investigation is underway,” the J&K Police said in a statement.

Son and J&K CM Omar Abdullah questions security lapse

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Farooq Abdullah’s son, Omar Abdullah, said that his father had a “very close shave” and escaped the possible assassination attempt.

“Allah is kind. My father had a very close shave. The details are sketchy at the moment but what is known is that a man with a loaded pistol was able to get within point-blank range & discharge a shot. It was only the close protection team that deflected the shot & ensured that the assassination attempt failed,” he said.

The Chief Minister also raised questions as to how the man managed to come close to the point-blank range when his father was a Z+ NSG-protected.

“There are more questions than answers at the moment, including but not limited to how someone was able to get this close to a Z+ NSG-protected former CM…,” he said on X.

CCTV captures the failed assassination attempt on Farooq Abdullah

A CCTV footage from the venue has also surfaced online. The purported footage captures the exact moment the shooter made the attempt on Abdullah’s life.

The footage shows Abdullah and Chaudhary walking surrounded by people when a man suddenly approaches him from behind and attempts to fire, before members of the close protection team intervene and deflect the shot.

Eyewitnesses recount the incident

Meanwhile, an eyewitness named Rakesh Singh has recounted the sequence of events. According to Singh, the man put the revolver behind  Abdullah’s back and fired, but missed the shot.

“I was at the wedding of the daughter of the president of our legal cell. We were all sitting and enjoying. Then Doctor Sahib said that he has to go… Then a man comes and puts a revolver behind Doctor Sahib’s back… However, he missed the shot… Doctor Sahib survived… There was no security or police here. The deputy CM was with him, the advisor was with him…,” he said.

J&K NC MLA Ajaz Ahmed Jan, who was also present at the event, said that the attacker was immediately overpowered and handed over to the police.

“He (Farooq Abdullah) was attending a function. We were all with them. When we were departing from the function… a man came from behind and he ran very fast and placed his revolver on the back of Doctor Sahib (Farooq Abdullah) and he fired, but missed his shot.”

He further added, “The people who were with Doctor Sahib’s (Farooq Abdullah) caught him in a moment, made him fall down, pressed him, and with great difficulty, we took the pistol from him. Then we left from there and came back home. It is a very unfortunate part that the gun reached inside the wedding… but let’s be thankful that everyone is fine… Farooq Abdullah is absolutely fine. He has gone to his room to rest…”

Following the incident, SP (South Jammu) Ajay Sharma reached the residence of Farooq Abdullah.

The police have registered a case and taken the attacker into custody. An investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack.

‘Unprecedented’ situation leads ‘largest ever’ release of 400m oil barrels as Iran attacks ships in Strait of Hormuz

The move is aimed at offseting the oil supply lost through the “effective closure” of the Strait of Hormuz, IEA executive director Fatih Birol said.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

The International Energy Agency (IEA) on Wednesday said that its 32 member countries voted unanimously to release 400 million barrels of oil from emergsncy stock to ease the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, triggered by the US-Israeli strikes on Iran and the latter’s retaliation.

The move is aimed at offseting the oil supply lost through the “effective closure” of the Strait of Hormuz, IEA executive director Fatih Birol said.

“The oil market challenges we are facing are unprecedented in scale, therefore I am very glad that IEA Member countries have responded with an emergency collective action of unprecedented size,” said Birol.

The emergency stock release is said to be the largest in the IEA’s history and it will be made available to the market over a “timeframe that is appropriate to the national circumstances” of member countries.

The is the sixth such ocassion when the IEA has approved the release of emergency oil stocks. Previously, the IEA had allowed it in 1991, 2005, 2011, and twice in 2022.

According to the IEA, its 32 members hold a combined emergency stockpiles of more than 1.2 billion barrels. An additional 600 million barrels of industry stocks are held under government obligation.

Iran attacks ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, says not a single litre of oil will be allowed

The announcement came after Iran struck three commercial ships, including the India-bound and Thailand-flagged cargo vessel Mayuree Naree in the Strait of Hormuz.

“Express Room,” owned by Israel and flying the Liberian flag, as well as the container ship “Mayuree Naree,” were fired upon and stopped by Iranian fighters after ignoring warnings and alerts from the IRGC Navy and illegally insisting on passing through the Strait of Hormuz,” the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said.

Tehran also warned that it will not allow a single litre of crude oil to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and reach the US, Israel and their partners in the wake of Israeli-American attacks.

“Any vessel or tanker bound to them will be a legitimate target,” a spokesman for Tehran’s Khatam al-Anbiya military command headquarters said.

“Get ready for the oil barrel to be at $200 because the oil price depends on the regional security, which you have destabilised,” the spokesman added.

‘Deplores targeting of commercial ships,’ says India after Iran attacks Gujarat-bound Thai ship in Strait of Hormuz

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the Thai-flagged ship was bound for Kandla in Gujarat when it was struck by Iran in the Straits of Hormuz.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

India on Wednesday reacted sharply to the Iranian strike on a Gujarat-bound Thai-flagged ship Mayuree Naree in the Strait of Hormuz, saying that New Delhi deplores the fact that commercial shipping is being targeted in the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

In a statement shared on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the Thai-flagged ship was bound for Kandla in Gujarat.

He said, “India deplores the fact that commercial shipping is being made a target of military attacks in the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Precious lives, including those of Indian citizens, have already been lost in multiple such attacks in the earlier phase of this conflict, and the intensity and lethality of the attacks only seem to be increasing.”

The MEA reiterated India’s stance that freedom of navigation and commerce should not be avoided.

“India reiterates that targeting commercial shipping and endangering innocent civilian crew members, or otherwise impeding freedom of navigation and commerce, should be avoided,” the statement added.

India’s reaction came shortly after the Thai-flagged cargo ship came under attack while sailing through the chokepoint Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday.

The vessel Mayuree Naree, which the Bangkok-based Precious Shipping owns, was struck by Iran approximately 11 nautical miles off the coast of Oman, the Royal Thai Navy said in a statement.

Mayuree Naree ignored warnings, says IRGC

In a statement carried by the IRNA news agency, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said that the Thai-flagged ship, along with the Israel-owned ‘Express Room’, were fired upon after they ignored the warnings.

“Express Room” owned by Israel and flying the Liberian flag, as well as the container ship “Mayuree Naree,” were fired upon and stopped by Iranian fighters after ignoring warnings and alerts from the IRGC Navy and illegally insisting on passing through the Strait of Hormuz,” the IRGC said.

Iran says not a single litre of oil will be allowed to pass through the Hormuz

As the US and Israeli strikes on Iran continue, Tehran has said that it will “not allow even a single litre of oil” to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and reach the US, Israel and their partners.

He further stated that Iran will now follow the policy of “strike upon strike”, moving away from the existing policy of reciprocal strikes.

Confident of navigating West Asia crisis, PM Modi urges people not to panic

Exuding confidence that India will successfully navigate the war in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed to people not to panic and fall prey to rumours.

Statesman News Service | Chennai |

Exuding confidence that India will successfully navigate the war in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed to people not to panic and fall prey to rumours.

Addressing a massive rally of the NDA at Trichy, he said, “The conflict in West Asia has affected the energy supply chain in the whole world. However, India as a nation, will successfully navigate this situation like how it had handled the Covid pandemic,” appealing to the people not to panic and pay attention to unverified rumours.

Avoiding mention of the US-Israel war on Iran, he said, “Indian government’s ideology is always India first in any situation and it is the same to the West Asia conflict as well. The welfare of Indians in that region is a priority. It is the same at times of peace too”

“We have seen how our government handled the situation in the past. In the present situation also, our approach will be the same,” Modi asserted, countering Opposition criticism of his government being unprepared to address the fall out of the ongoing war. He further appealed to the people only to spread verified information.

Training his guns on the ruling DMK and its leadership, he charged it with betraying the mandate secured in the 2021 election by turning Tamil Nadu into an ATM for the family. “Ministers and MLAs may change, but power remains with one dynastic family. Like all rivers go to the ocean, all the corrupt money goes to one family. This model is used for the benefit of one family,” he alleged, asserting that Tamil Nadu has made up its mind to throw out the DMK out of power with a wave of change flowing like the river Cauvery in the Tamil month of Aadi when the river gushes forth with fresh water.

“The change is not only for one family, but for the families of the entire state and the people are aware that only the NDA could bring that change. I could feel the pulse of the people at this time of election,” he predicted.

Without naming Tamil Nadu Minister KN Nehru, facing the cash for job scam case, Modi said a minister of this district was involved in the cash for job scam depriving aspirants of government jobs. As he was speaking in the Cauvery delta region, the Prime Minister blamed the DMK government of MK Stalin for failing to implement the poll promises, especially to farmers.

MS Dhoni cleared as BCCI Ethics Officer dismisses conflict of interest complaint

The ruling concluded that no case of conflict of interest was established regarding Dhoni’s participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Ethics Officer, Justice Arun Mishra (retd), has dismissed a complaint filed against former India captain MS Dhoni over alleged violations of conflict-of-interest provisions.

The ruling concluded that no case of conflict of interest was established regarding Dhoni’s participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The complaint, filed in February 2024, alleged that Dhoni, as a “current player,” was simultaneously the “owner of a cricket academy,” thereby violating Rule 38(4)(a) and Rule 38(4)(p) of the BCCI regulations. The complainant also accused Dhoni of failing to fulfil mandatory disclosure obligations under Rules 38(2) and 38(5) after the conflict-of-interest rules were amended in 2018.

Dhoni currently plays for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and has led the franchise to five titles.

In his detailed order, Justice Mishra observed that Dhoni could be considered the owner of cricket academies opened by M/s Aarka Sports and Management Private Limited. However, the agreement related to the academies was signed in 2017, before the BCCI’s conflict-of-interest regulations came into force in September 2018.

“Resultantly, Shri MS Dhoni can be said to be the owner of the cricket academies opened by M/s Aarka Sports and Management Private Limited. However, the agreement was entered into in 2017, whereas regulations came into force in September 2018. On facts, Conflict of Interest at the relevant time when Shri MS Dhoni represented India as Captain/Player has not been made out,” the order stated.

Justice Mishra further noted that there was no evidence suggesting Dhoni held any “institutional control or decision-making authority,” nor were there any instances of “favouritism, bias, or preferential treatment.”

“The complainant cannot, in effect, espouse the cause of a third party in this adjudicatory forum. More so, the complainant has personal axe to grind as the respondent had caused loss to him,” the order said.

It also noted that the complaint appeared to arise from a commercial dispute and was filed belatedly.

“In view of the foregoing discussion and findings, the complaint is dismissed,” the order added.

Adequate stock of LPG and PNG available: Delhi Govt

The government has appealed to residents not to pay attention to rumours being circulated about gas supply and avoid unnecessary panic buying or hoarding.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Denying shortage of fuel in the national capital, The Delhi government has confirmed that supply of LPG, petrol, diesel, and PNG is completely normal.

The government has appealed to residents not to pay attention to rumours being circulated about gas supply and avoid unnecessary panic buying or hoarding.

On Wednesday, a key review meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary of Delhi in the presence of senior officials from the Department of Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Delhi Police, the Revenue Department, Indraprastha Gas Limited and various oil marketing companies.

After reviewing the situation in detail, the meeting focused on rumours suggesting that the LPG supplies could be disrupted due to war-like developments in the Middle East. Officials from Indraprastha Gas Limited informed that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, issued an order on March 9, 2026 that provides guidelines to ensure the proper and equitable distribution and availability of domestic PNG and CNG in priority sectors.

The officials concerned have clarified that there was no shortage of domestic PNG in Delhi.

At the same time, after revising supply priorities, nearly 80 per cent uninterrupted gas supply has also been restored for industrial sectors.

Representatives of oil marketing companies stated that the supply of petrol, diesel, and domestic LPG in Delhi remains completely normal and that companies have sufficient stock available.

The supply chain for oil and gas is continuing smoothly as before.

Although the LPG cylinder booking interval has been increased from 21 days to 25 days, consumers are still receiving cylinders at their homes within an average of two to three days after booking.

The meeting also noted that oil marketing companies have issued certain guidelines for the supply of commercial gas cylinders, under which educational institutions and hospitals are being given priority.

The government also directed officials to take strict action against any instances of gas theft or black marketing. Delhi Police and Revenue Department officials have been specifically instructed to remain vigilant in this regard.
