Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra is preparing for a likely visit by President Droupadi Murmu to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on March 19.

A preparatory meeting was held at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi workshop in Ramghat, which also houses the accounting department office of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra.

The meeting was chaired by a senior official of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra and was attended by key officials from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliated organisations.

The meeting was highly confidential, and important information was gathered from the participating officials in a systematic manner.

Following the participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in the Ram Mandir flag-unfurling ceremony and the visit of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the last day of the year for the Pratishtha Dwadashi ceremony, the Ram Mandir Trust has already begun planning to ensure the President’s visit within three months is organised and successful. This time, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra had invited social groups to the flag-hoisting ceremony.

During the President’s visit, the Trust is working on a plan to invite only local residents.

Yogi Adityanath meets PM Modi, top BJP leaders on organisational matters

Official sources said the CM’s meeting with PM Modi lasted over an hour, during which he presented a replica of the Ram Temple to the latter.

Statesman News Service | Lucknow |

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top central BJP leaders as the party undertakes a review of its political and organisational strategy.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), in a social media post on ‘X’, said, “Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri @myogiadityanath met Prime Minister @narendramodi.” While no official details were shared, sources said the interaction covered key development initiatives, governance-related issues, and the broader political roadmap.

Official sources said the CM’s meeting with PM Modi lasted over an hour, during which he presented a replica of the Ram Temple to the latter. Sources indicated that CM Yogi also discussed the ongoing SIR process with the PM.

The visit is significant, coming as it does at a time when the BJP is reassessing its organisational strength and future direction, particularly in UP.

The CM also wrote on ‘X’ that he called on the PM and BJP President J P Nadda. ”Paid a courtesy call on PM Narendra Modi today to seek his guidance. The roadmap provided by the PM for new Uttar Pradesh will infuse fresh energy into the state’s development journey,” he said.

According to sources, discussions with senior party leaders focussed on organisational matters, the prevailing political situation in the state, the forthcoming electoral strategy, and coordination between the Centre and the state government. Strengthening internal communication and ensuring closer alignment between the state leadership and the party’s central command are also key objectives of the meetings.

CM Adityanath’s visit comes amid heightened political activity within the BJP as it steps up preparations for upcoming programmes and works to further consolidate its organisational base.

In the past, the Chief Minister has frequently used his visits to the capital to hold consultations with senior leaders on both administrative and political issues.

The party leadership has also been receiving regular feedback and complaints from office-bearers and MLAs regarding administrative functioning. Managing discontent among legislators has emerged as an important task for the Chief Minister, especially after the BJP suffered a setback in UP during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Since then, efforts have been underway to reach out to dissatisfied leaders and rebuild internal cohesion.

In recent weeks, the CM’s frequent meetings with BJP MLAs from different regions of the state have been seen as part of this exercise. Against this backdrop, political circles are abuzz with talk of possible changes in the state’s political and organisational setup.

Chief Minister Adityanath also paid courtesy visit to Union Home minister Amit Shah and BJP’s National Working President Nitin Nabin.

The trip has gained added importance as both Deputy Chief Ministers—Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak—are also in Delhi. Earlier on Monday, Brajesh Pathak met Nitin Nabin, adding to the political buzz.

According to party sources, discussions are underway on filling vacant ministerial positions, with possibilities ranging from the induction of new faces to changes in portfolios of existing ministers. A final decision is expected after consultations with the party’s high command.

Remembering the legendary 1974 Test match

Soha took fans back to December 1974, during India’s historic Test match against the powerful West Indies team. During that game, fast bowler Andy Roberts hit Pataudi on the face with a brutal delivery fracturing his cheekbone.

Badly injured and bleeding, Pataudi retired hurt. But in a moment that defined his character, he returned to field and continued to lead the team.

Under his captaincy, India achieved an unbelievable victory by 85 runs. Soha described this match as one of Indian cricket’s most iconic wins.

“The ground remembers the cricketer, I remember my Abba”

In her note, Soha wrote that while Eden Gardens remembers Pataudi the cricketer, she remembers him as her Abba, her father.

ANI | New Delhi |

Apple Inc. exported iPhones worth USD 50 billion from India in 2025, marking a significant milestone for the country’s manufacturing sector. Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, shared the development on X, attributing the growth to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and the transition toward a producer economy.

“In a major milestone for PM @narendramodi Ji’s ‘Make in India’ and our quest to become a producer economy, Apple ships $50 billion worth mobile phones in 2025,” Vaishnaw said.
To give context, during its five-year PLI period from FY21 to FY25, Samsung shipped devices worth approximately USD 17 billion.

Highlighting the broader growth in the sector, Vaishnaw stated, “Electronics production has increased 6 times in the last 11 years. And electronics exports have grown 8 times under PM Modi Ji’s focused leadership. This progress has propelled electronics products among the top 3 exported items.”

The Minister noted that 46 component manufacturing projects, alongside manufacturers of laptops, servers, and hearables, established electronics as a major driver of the manufacturing economy. He also stated that four semiconductor plants will start commercial production this year.

The electronics manufacturing sector now supports 25 lakh jobs, with several factories employing more than 5,000 people at a single site. According to the Minister, some plants currently employ as many as 40,000 employees in a single location.
The Minister emphasised that the current progress represents an initial stage in the country’s industrial strategy. He stated that the nation aims to become a major player in the entire electronics stack.
“This is just the beginning. Bharat will become a major player in entire electronics stack – design, manufacturing, operating system, applications, materials, and equipment,” Vaishnaw said.

Somnath Temple to host year-long Swabhiman Parv; PM Modi to attend Jan 11 events

Year-long activities are set to take place at Somnath Temple in Gujarat to mark the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, officials said on Monday.

IANS | New Delhi |

Year-long activities are set to take place at Somnath Temple in Gujarat to mark the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, officials said on Monday.

Many spiritual and social activities will take place in the temple premises from January 8 to 11.

Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also visit Somnath Temple on January 11 to attend the Somnath Swabhiman Parv programmes.

Somnath Swabhiman Parv is being organised to mark 1,000 years since the first major attack on the Somnath Temple in 1026, celebrating the shrine’s enduring spirit and India’s cultural resilience as it was rebuilt every time after several destructions by invaders.

PM Modi initiated the observance as a symbol of faith, destruction, and rebuilding, highlighting its continuous restoration over centuries, culminating in its 1950s reconstruction and reflecting national pride and civilisational strength.

The central theme is ‘Unbroken Faith’, emphasising the temple’s significance as a symbol of India’s enduring culture and spirit despite repeated assaults.

Earlier, PM Modi, in a blog post, said that the Somnath Temple is the eternal proclamation of the Indian soul, asserting that while hate and fanaticism may have the power to destroy for a moment, faith and conviction in the power of goodness have the strength to create for eternity.

He pointed out that 2026 marks thousand years since the Somnath Temple was first attacked by the invaders in January 1026.

Recounting the history of the Somnath Temple and its destruction by invaders centuries ago, the Prime Minister said there can be no better illustration of India’s indomitable civilisational spirit than Somnath, which continues to stand tall despite repeated attacks and immense adversity.

Recalling the period when Somnath, revered by millions, was attacked by foreign invaders, PM Modi said their agenda was destruction rather than devotion. Calling 2026 a significant year for the shrine, he pointed out that it would mark 1,000 years since the first attack on the temple.

He added that another important milestone would be completed in 2026, marking 75 years since the restored temple was opened to devotees.

Mickey Rourke on GoFundMe: Golden Globe winner for ‘The Wrestler’ raises funds to cover $59,100 in unpaid rent

Hollywood icon Mickey Rourke, best known for ‘The Wrestler’ and ‘Iron Man 2’, is facing eviction from his Los Angeles home after allegedly falling $59,100 behind on rent. The 73-year-old actor has turned to GoFundMe for support.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

On a quiet Los Angeles street once lived a man who ruled movie posters, magazine covers, and box offices. Today, that same man is fighting something far less glamorous: an eviction notice. Mickey Rourke, the Oscar-nominated actor who once stunned the world with ‘The Wrestler’, is now asking for help to keep a roof over his head.

At 73, the Hollywood rebel has found himself in a sudden and very human crisis: unpaid rent, a lawsuit from his landlord, and the real possibility of losing his home.

Hollywood loves a comeback story. But sometimes, the drama does not stay on screen.

Rourke has approved a GoFundMe campaign started by his friend and management team member, Liya-Joelle Jones. The goal is simple but urgent: raise money to stop an eviction.

The fundraiser is aiming for US$100,000. At the time of writing, about US$49,000 has already been raised. According to Jones, the campaign was created with Rourke’s full permission.

“Mickey is going through a very difficult time right now,” Jones told ‘The Hollywood Reporter’. “It’s been incredibly touching to see how many people care about him and want to help.”

On the GoFundMe page, Jones explains that the money is meant to cover immediate housing-related costs and prevent Rourke from being forced out of his Los Angeles home.

Facing eviction in Los Angeles

Court documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court paint a worrying picture. Rourke reportedly received a three-day eviction notice in late December after failing to meet lease requirements. His landlord is now suing him not only for unpaid rent but also for damages and legal fees.

According to the lawsuit, Rourke owes US$59,100 in rent.

The actor signed the lease in March, agreeing to pay US$5,200 per month. That amount was later increased to US$7,000 per month. Over time, the unpaid rent reportedly piled up leading to the eviction notice.

Adding a strange Hollywood twist to the story, the house itself has a history. It was once home to famous crime novelist Raymond Chandler, author of ‘The Big Sleep’, who lived there in the 1940s.

“Fame does not protect against hardship”

The GoFundMe page does not shy away from the hard truth. It speaks openly about Rourke’s struggles and the fragile nature of fame.

“Mickey Rourke is an icon,” the page reads. “But his trajectory, as painful as it is, is also deeply human.”

The goal, according to the campaign, is not luxury. Just peace of mind and stability.

As news of the fundraiser spread, fans began leaving messages filled with shock, sadness, and loyalty.

Mickey Rourke: A career of highs, lows, and risk

Mickey Rourke’s career has never followed a straight line. In the 1980s, he was one of Hollywood’s hottest stars. Films like ‘Diner’, ‘Rumble Fish’, ‘The Pope of Greenwich Village’, and ‘9 1/2 Weeks’ made him a household name.

But at the height of his fame, Rourke walked away. Disillusioned with the film industry, he turned his back on acting and chased a risky dream of professional boxing.

A post shared by MICKEY ROURKE (@mickey_rourke_)

The decision cost him dearly, both physically and professionally. When he returned to acting years later, his face had changed, his star power had faded, and Hollywood had moved on.

Then came ‘The Wrestler’ in 2008. Rourke’s performance earned him an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win. For a moment, it felt like a miracle comeback. Roles in ‘Sin City’ and ‘Iron Man 2’ followed.

But as history shows, comebacks don’t always last.

Recent controversies add to the struggle

Last year, Rourke found himself in another storm when he appeared on ‘Celebrity Big Brother UK’. His time on the show ended early after multiple incidents involving inappropriate language and behaviour.

One moment that caused backlash was a remark about fellow contestant JoJo Siwa’s sexuality. Rourke later admitted fault and publicly apologised.

“I’m ashamed of myself,” he said at the time.

Following his exit, Rourke’s manager announced plans to take legal action against the show’s producers. The claim was that the producers were fully aware of Rourke’s “Hollywood rebel” image but refused to pay his full agreed fee after removing him from the show.

Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam cannot apply for bail for one year: What the SC said in Delhi riots case

The Supreme Court, while ruling against Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam’s pleas, admitted the bail petitions of the other five accused persons in the case: Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shifa-ur-Rehman, Mohd Saleem Khan and Shadab Ahmed, all of whom have been in custody for more than five years.

Deepak Nagpal | New Delhi |

Student activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, in jail on charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots larger conspiracy case, cannot apply for bail afresh for at least one year.

The Supreme Court, while rejecting their bail pleas on Monday in the Delhi riots case, said Umar and Sharjeel can apply for bail again in the trial court once the examination of all prosecution witnesses in the matter is completed. In case the prosecution fails to examine all witnesses in a period of one year, the duo will be eligible to apply for bail.

The Supreme Court, while ruling against Umar and Sharjeel’s pleas, admitted the bail petitions of the other five accused persons in the case: Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shifa-ur-Rehman, Mohd Saleem Khan and Shadab Ahmed, all of whom have been in custody for more than five years.

Here’s a breakdown of what the SC said:

– The Supreme Court said Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam’s case stands on a “qualitatively different footing” than that of other accused, both in terms of prosecution and evidence.

– The top court said the duo played roles that were “central” to the alleged offences.

– The court noted that while the period of incarceration for the two is continued and has been long, it still does not violate the constitutional mandate or override the statutory embargo under the law.

– A Bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and Prasanna B Varale said that a prima facie case is made out against Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, thereby attracting the statutory bar to bail under Section 43D(5) of the UAPA.

– The Bench said the available prosecution evidence and other material “does not justify their enlargement on bail”.

– According to the court, the available evidence suggests the duo were involved in planning, mobilisation and issuance of strategic directions.

– On why it was allowing bail to the five other accused, the Supreme Court said it was important to examine each bail application independently. “The hierarchy of participation requires the court to assess each application individually,” while holding that Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam stood on a qualitatively different footing as compared to the other accused.

What lawyers said on SC order

On the court’s order that the two accused can apply for bail after a period of one year, Sarim Naved, lawyer for accused Gulfisha, said, “Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam have been given the liberty to apply for bail after one year. The police and trial have been directed by the court to run the case swiftly, and all the witnesses are to be examined within a year.”

“The five, who have been granted bail, the Supreme Court has said that their culpability, if any, is at a lower level. For the two that have not been granted bail, the court has said that we are not commenting on their culpability but because of the way it is structured, in the fitness of things and judging the Constitution as well as the UAPA together, they have given one more year to the prosecution to examine all protected secret witnesses. If they can’t do in one year, then Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam can reapply for bail after one year,” the lawyer added.

Hiya | New Delhi |

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, shared a candid reflection as the season of his quiz-based reality show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” nears its end. He mentions the absence of work often brings on the quiet unsettling draining phase.

The Megastar mentions how the days seem too long

Amitabh took to his blog on Tumblr and wrote: “Its been hardly a few days to the end of the season and the days seem too long to bring to some semblance of the ethics of work ..(sic).”

‘No work is a sluggish walk’

He noted that time seems to stretch endlessly with just a few days left before the season wraps up.

For the icon, “no work” becomes synonymous with a slow, exhausting walk through a vast, wet wasteland heavy, sluggish and draining. “No work is a synonym for a sluggish walk through a wet vast wasteland… Stuck in it .. shall try the very best to pull the weary legs out and move (sic).”

There was not a single day when he was not with me. Absolutely duty-bound. He will come on time, no matter what happens. Whether you are sick or whatever. Not a single day in 50 years when he is not with us. And there is a serious problem in saying one more thing, but let me say it”.

Bangladesh bans IPL broadcast amid Mustafizur Rahman row

The order, passed on Monday afternoon, has resulted in fans in Bangladesh being unable to watch IPL matches legally on television or through official streaming platforms.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

The Bangladesh government has ordered the indefinite suspension of the broadcast and live streaming of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in the country on Monday. The decision comes amid growing tensions following the release of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad, after directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The order, passed on Monday afternoon, will result in fans in Bangladesh being unable to watch IPL and other related programmes on television or through official streaming platforms.

A former BCCI official reacted, saying that the move by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was doing what’s in their authority and that India or the IPL will not be affected by their decision.

“For every action, there is a reaction. The Bangladesh Cricket Board is merely doing what it believes is within its authority. “Takleef hui hai, so obviously there will be a reaction,” the official said.

The situation has escalated against the backdrop of rising diplomatic and social tensions between the two countries. Recent incidents of communal violence against the Hindu community in Bangladesh have drawn strong reactions, prompting the Indian government to adopt a firmer stance on the matter.

Amid these developments, the BCCI asked the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned KKR franchise to release Mustafizur Rahman from their squad. The left-arm pacer had been bought for ₹9.20 crore, making him the most expensive Bangladeshi player in IPL history.

In response to the ongoing situation, the Bangladesh government has taken further steps at the administrative level. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) reached out to the International Cricket Council (ICC), requesting the relocation of Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka.

According to multiple reports, the ICC is now considering a revised schedule that would see Bangladesh play all of its Group C matches in Sri Lanka, subject to final approval.

Mumbai minor forcibly taken to Madhya Pradesh, sexually abused for months; accused at large

A Mumbai minor has alleged months of abuse after being taken to Madhya Pradesh. Police have registered an FIR, but the accused is yet to be arrested.

Statesman News Service | Mumbai |

A 15-year-old girl from Mumbai’s Mira Bhayandar area has reported months of abuse after being taken out of the state by a local youth she knew, police said on Monday.

The case falls under the Valiv police station limits. An FIR has been registered, but the accused has not yet been arrested.

According to officials, the girl had become friends with the man in her neighbourhood. Over time, he allegedly began threatening her using private photos and videos. She was then forced to travel with him to Madhya Pradesh.

Police said the minor was kept in a single room there for nearly six months. During this period, she was repeatedly sexually assaulted.

Investigators also said the accused created a fake Instagram account using the girl’s name and photographs. A “rate card” was posted on the account, offering her services online, they added.

The victim told police that she was also pressured to convert to Islam and was forced to consume beef. Her father had died recently, adding to her vulnerability.

She later managed to escape and return to Mumbai. After reaching home, she informed her family, who approached the police.

An FIR was registered at Valiv police station. However, the accused remains at large.

The girl has said she is living in fear and feels unsafe due to the delay in the arrest. She is now writing to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, seeking immediate intervention.

Police said a search operation is underway and the investigation is ongoing. More details are awaited.

The incident has surfaced amid renewed demands by several Hindutva organisations for a stricter anti-conversion law in Maharashtra. These groups have been pressing the state government to introduce legislation often referred to as an “anti-love jihad” law.

Jaaved Jaaferi critiques today’s dance reality shows, says Boogie Woogie was original and must return fresh

Jaaferi feels today’s dance reality shows lack originality, recalling the magic of Boogie Woogie. He also talks about his viral dance-off with son Meezaan and his upcoming film Mayasabha.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Bollywood’s ever-charismatic Jaaved Jaaferi, the man who made us groove to Boogie Woogie and laugh along with Takeshi’s Castle, isn’t holding back when it comes to today’s dance reality shows. The veteran actor and dancer recently opened up about the current crop of televised talent, and let’s just say, he’s not impressed.

“They all look the same,” Jaaved told The Times of India. “While the formats evolve, the core presentation rarely does. There’s great talent around, but when it comes to the shows, nothing really stands out.”

Ouch, right? Looks like the original Boogie Woogie magic is hard to replicate.

Boogie Woogie: The OG dance show

For those who grew up glued to their TV screens in the late 90s and early 2000s, Boogie Woogie wasn’t just another dance show. It was THE dance show. Running from 1996 to 2014, it introduced India to a brand-new style of talent hunt. Jaaved, along with Naved Jafri and Ravi Behl, co-hosted and judged the show, turning it into a cultural phenomenon.

“Today, dancers watch everything online and pick up styles from all over the world,” Jaaved explained. “We did not have the kind of exposure back then. Our show was original. It wasn’t copied. If it ever comes back, it has to be version 2, different and fresh.”

Translation? The Boogie Woogie vibe can’t just be recycled. It needs a serious upgrade.

Jaaved Jaaferi on the workfront

These days, Jaaved isn’t just reminiscing. He recently stole the show in ‘De De Pyaar De 2’, released in November 2025, alongside Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and his son, Meezaan Jafri.

Fans can’t stop talking about the viral father-son dance-off to the song ‘3 Shaukk’.

And if that wasn’t enough, Jaaved is gearing up for a new adventure with the fantasy thriller ‘Mayasabha’, directed by Rahi Anil Barve. It will hit screens on January 16, 2026.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagjit Singh Walia, the deceased has been identified as Jarmal Singh, a resident of Valtoha village, Tarn Taran district. He was associated with the Aam Aadmi Party and was currently serving as the Sarpanch of Valtoha village.

Speaking to reporters, DCP said, “At the Marigold Resort here on the Amritsar bypass, we received information that a shooting had occurred (Sunday evening). All our senior officers and teams immediately rushed to the spot. Someone shot a person named Jarmal Singh. Our team is fully engaged in investigating this incident. The culprits will be apprehended soon. The victim has passed away. We are using both human intelligence and technical surveillance…”

Jarmal Singh had come to Amritsar to attend a wedding ceremony, where two unknown youths opened fire on him. He was shot twice by the attackers in the head, killing him on the spot. Upon receiving information about the incident, police officers arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation.

The DCP further stated that the matter is being investigated and that the accused will be arrested soon.

The DCP also mentioned that police from Tarn Taran are being contacted to check whether Singh had received any prior threats or ransom calls, though no concrete information has emerged so far.

Law & order in Punjab

Reacting to the incident, BJP MLA Bhawna Bohra attacked the AAP-led government in Punjab over the deteriorating law and order situation. She said, “It’s no secret how the AAP is running the government in Punjab. They have not learned any lessons, even from the death of Sidhu Moosewala. There are 2.5 Chief Ministers in Punjab, and yet the situation remains worrisome, and this incident exposes it further.”

The killing of Jarmal Singh has once again raised concerns about public safety and the rising incidents of targeted attacks in Punjab, prompting authorities to intensify investigations and security measures in the region.

Indian IT sector’s revenue to grow 4 to 5 pc in FY27: Report

The Indian IT industry’s revenue growth is expected to recover to 4-5 per cent in FY27, leading to high‑single‑digit EPS growth, a report said on Monday.

The Indian IT industry’s revenue growth is expected to recover to 4-5 per cent in FY27, leading to high‑single‑digit EPS growth, a report said on Monday.

The report from HSBC Global Investment Research, however, said that IT stocks, up about 15 per cent from their lows, could still perform broadly in line with the market in 2026.

“We still see an improving outlook, but now expect the IT sector to perform in line with the broader market in FY27. IT is no longer a long-term double-digit compounding sector, with the long-term stock return trajectory gradient lower than in the past,” the research firm said.

The report forecasted IT stocks to be a “lot more cyclical, requiring active management” of top‑tier ones around their cycles and volatility. It added that a possible cyclical rebound in CY26 or FY27 could give IT stocks further upside on top of recent performance.

The report highlighted that 3QFY26 was impacted by weak seasons and unlikely to surprise positively, noting mixed company‑level signals.

“We had expected IT to perform better than the market in 2026. This view was led by a likely improvement in growth, less demanding valuations, a favourable base after three years of anaemic growth, and moderation in the sector AI overhang,” said Yogesh Aggarwal, Head of Research, HSBC India.

IT stocks were up around 15-20 per cent between October-December 2025 compared with a 6 per cent return on Nifty and hence factor in a decent chunk of the expected improvement in fundamentals in CY2026 or FY27, he added.

The report cited commentary from IT industry customers which signalled improved confidence in the business outlook and, hence, a higher propensity to spend on IT.

Further, it noted visibility on the deflationary impact of AI on IT services, while monetisation of AI for business-accretive deals is also closer.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services, in its latest report, said it is “constructive on IT services from a medium-term perspective, as global technology spending is expected to recover gradually with stabilising macro conditions and increased focus on digital transformation, AI and efficiency-led adoption.”

Asia leads global confidence in tax fairness, India stands out: Report

Public trust in tax remains strongest in Asia and India stands out for its relatively strong tax morale and trust in the fiscal system, a report showed on Monday.

IANS | New Delhi |

Public trust in tax remains strongest in Asia and India stands out for its relatively strong tax morale and trust in the fiscal system, a report showed on Monday.

Nearly 45 per cent of Indian respondents believe that tax revenues are spent for the public good, while 41 per cent view paying taxes as a contribution to their community rather than an additional cost, reinforcing the idea of tax as a shared civic responsibility, according to the report released jointly by ACCA, IFAC, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and the OECD.

Reflecting high ethical standards, 68 per cent of Indian respondents said they would never justify cheating on tax, even if given the opportunity, the report noted.

Additionally, the survey also highlights India’s strong alignment between taxation and sustainability outcomes, with 80 per cent of Indian respondents indicating they would be willing to pay a small to significant additional amount of tax to support sustainable development goals, underscoring broad public acceptance of fiscal policy as a tool for long-term social and environmental progress.

“Findings from India mirror a broader Asian trend where trust in taxation remains comparatively strong, driven by perceptions of fairness, transparency, and public value. The willingness of Indian respondents to contribute more through taxes to support sustainable development also reflects a growing alignment between fiscal policy and long-term societal goals,” said Md. Sajid Khan, Director–India at ACCA.

The results revealed that taxpayers across Asia largely view their tax systems as equitable and are significantly more confident that their taxes deliver fair public value compared to survey respondents across other regions.

Across all 29 countries surveyed, respondents were more likely to view tax as a contribution to their community rather than a cost, indicating strong support for the fiscal contract in theory. This sentiment was strongest in South-East Asia, where nearly two-thirds (64.7 per cent) agreed.

“Asia’s strong public trust in taxation offers valuable lessons for the world. People here see tax as a contribution to the community, not just a cost, but that trust can’t be taken for granted,” said Helen Brand OBE, Chief Executive of ACCA.

Manal Corwin, Director of the OECD Centre for Tax Policy and Administration, commented that “this is the first phase of a new project for the OECD looking at tax morale in Asia”.

“We will discuss these results with governments in the region over the next year to identify the drivers of trust in tax across Asia, and best practices to build trust. This will help governments design fairer, more responsive and more coherent tax systems,” Corwin added.

Suvendu Adhikari writes to CEC, rebuts CM Mamata Banerjee’s claims on SIR in Bengal

A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Monday wrote to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, strongly refuting the allegations made by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo.

Using his social media handle, Addhikari shared a copy of his letter to CEC and slammed Mamata Banerjee for her “desperate lies” against the SIR exercise.

“I have sent a letter to the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner, @ECISVEEP Shri Gyanesh Kumar, dismantling Mamata Banerjee’s desperate lies against the SIR exercise and her latest plea for halting SIR. Her so-called concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) are nothing but Pure Fiction,” said Adkhikari.

Adhikari alleged that the TMC was rattled by the SIR exercise as it would expose the use of fake and illegal voters in elections.

“In reality, this ECI drive is throwing the spotlight on the TMC’s dirty secrets — fake voters, names of the deceased, and illegal infiltrators they have protected for years to rig elections. It is crystal clear that Mamata Banerjee is panicking because SIR is a death knell for her 2026 dreams,” he claimed.

In the letter to CEC, Adhikari wrote, “I have carefully perused the letter dated January 03, 2026, from the Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee, wherein she has once again levelled a barrage of unsubstantiated accusations against the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Regrettably, this communication…. reeks of political desperation and a frantic bid to derail a sacred Constitutional Exercise that threatens to expose the rot in our electoral rolls – a rot that her Trinamool Congress (TMC) regime has nurtured and exploited for electoral gains over the past decade.”

The BJP leader continued: “The Hon’ble Chief Minister’s litany of grievances is not only factually inaccurate but a deliberate distortion designed to malign the ECI as ‘politically motivated’ and to manufacture a false narrative of widespread discomfort and disenfranchisement. In truth, it is her own Administration and Party machinery that have colluded to sabotage the SIR at every turn: intimidating field officials (as in the case of Electoral Roll Observer; Shri C Murugan) through mob vandalism, veiled threats and bureaucratic hurdles, flooding social media with disinformation campaigns, and orchestrating orchestrated protests to create an atmosphere of negativity and fear.”

He added, “These unholy acts seek to portray the ECI’s lawful diligence as harassment, when in reality, the Commission’s actions are safeguarding the franchise of genuine voters while weeding out the fraudulent. Such tactics are a shameful assault on Democratic institutions, and I urge the ECI to remain vigilant against these machinations. Below, I systematically dismantle her key allegations, demonstrating their hollowness:”

The move from the LoP came a day after Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to CEC Gyanesh Kumar, expressing concern over alleged irregularities, procedural violations and administrative lapses during SIR process in Bengal.

In the letter, Banerjee said that critical instructions related to the SIR process are being communicated informally through WhatsApp messages and text messages, without formal written notifications, circulars, or statutory orders. She claimed that this lack of formal documentation undermines transparency, accuracy, accountability and could lead to the disenfranchisement of genuine voters.
