Days after taking over as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal, the former skipper has defended the board’s decision to significantly raise domestic match fees and player salaries, stating that cricketers in the country had long been “highly underpaid” and deserved better financial recognition.
Bangladesh Cricket Board has requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) for 48 hours' time to convey their decision to the government regarding playing their matches of the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and take a decision, a news report said.
The directive followed fresh talks between the ICC and the BCB in Dhaka on Saturday, their second meeting in a week, where Bangladesh reiterated its willingness to play the World Cup, but only outside India.
The BCB issued a statement on Tuesday after a video conference with the ICC, maintaining that security concerns remain the primary reason behind its request to have Bangladesh’s matches moved out of India.
In a post on social media, Nazmul wrote, “This time, the people of Bangladesh witnessed, with their own eyes, the emergence of yet another proven Indian agent.”
The statement, however, stopped short of confirming whether Bangladesh would eventually play its matches in India.
The order, passed on Monday afternoon, has resulted in fans in Bangladesh being unable to watch IPL matches legally on television or through official streaming platforms.
As per the revised itinerary, the Indian team is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28.
The BCB announcement brought an end to the uncertainty of the past couple of weeks, when Shakib was told by the board to choose between playing for Bangladesh or keeping his endorsement with a "betting company".
This is the first time the BCB has allowed players to train at BCB-run facilities since the COVID-19 pandemic halted the sport all around the world in March.
