East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu acknowledged the involvement of some Khasi Students' Union (KSU) members in the incident.
Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad, had sought his custody for 10 days saying that the police wanted to question him with data that ran into 11 lakh pages, "as well as other evidence collected during the investigation of the present case and also to examine at length about other suspects and various other aspects”.

Urvashi Chudawala and around 50 others were also booked under sections 124 (A) (sedition), 153 (B) (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), 505 (statement conducing to public mischief) and 34 (Common Intention) of the Indian penal code, said Pranay Ashok, Deputy Commissioner of Police.
On December 15, 2019, police barged in the Jamia campus in the hunt for the protesters who were protesting outside the varsity campus against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The protesters were believed to be Jamia students, however, the investigation reports stated differently.
BJP leader Nand Kishore Garg has filed the petition in the court terming the protests as "illegal" and said the court cannot be a "silent spectator to such agitation and confrontational drama" obstructing common people.
BJP also demanded from the EC that the expenditure incurred on Shaheen Bagh and other such protests against CAA must be added to the expenditure accounts of the respective AAP candidates.
Over 1000 students have gathered outside the varsity and removed the barricades put in by the police.
