A throwback that didn’t age well

On Monday, she posted a throwback image of an old magazine cover that once declared her career “fallen.” Reacting to it with her trademark wit, Zeenat wrote in the caption, “I’m filing this magazine headline under ‘things that didn’t age like fine wine’, though at least they chose a charming photograph of me.”

A dig at outdated judgments

Taking a subtle dig at the publication behind the headline, the actor pointed out how short-lived such judgments can be. She noted that while the magazine faded away, she continues to thrive, especially in the age of OTT platforms.

“I don’t think this publication is around anymore, but guess which ‘fallen’ woman still is,” she wrote, adding a reminder on resilience and ending the note with a playful line: “Haters gonna hate.”

Looking back at changing portrayals

Earlier, Zeenat Aman had also reflected on how Hindi cinema’s portrayal of women shifted within a short span of time. While revisiting scenes from her older films, she noticed a striking contrast between her roles in Dostana and Teesri Ankh, released just two years apart.

She pointed out how, in one film, her character was subjected to eve-teasing and slut-shaming, while in the other, she played the aggressor.

Highlighting the role reversal, she shared how audiences react differently depending on who holds power in a scene.

Questioning Bollywood’s idea of romance

Zeenat explained that what makes one scene seem playful and another uncomfortable is rooted in how gender roles are traditionally framed. She admitted that while banter can be a part of courtship, the film industry often took it too far.

She also reflected on how many films glorified obsession instead of healthy love, acknowledging her own role in shaping that narrative. “Now I recognise that I have played a part in propagating the ludicrous idea of romance that Bollywood has exported to Indians everywhere,” she wrote.

Jimmy Kimmel takes aim at Donald Trump after he calls Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show ‘terrible’

Jimmy Kimmel took sharp aim at Donald Trump after the US president slammed Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. The late-night host mocked Trump’s criticism while reminding viewers of his past porn star payoff and taking digs at Turning Point USA’s rival show.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Hollywood loves a good feud, and Monday night brought a fresh one. When Jimmy Kimmel walked onto the stage of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ on Monday, he clearly came ready. The target? Donald Trump. The trigger? Trump’s furious review of Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.

What followed was a sharp, gossipy monologue that mixed pop culture, politics, pure late-night mischief.

Trump’s angry review sets the tone

Kimmel kicked things off by reading Trump’s comments about Bad Bunny’s performance. Trump had called the halftime show “absolutely terrible” and “one of the worst ever.”

He went on to say it made no sense, did not reflect “the greatness of America,” and failed to meet the country’s “standards of success, creativity, or excellence.”

Trump also complained that “nobody understands a word this guy is saying” and described the dancing as “disgusting,” especially for children watching across the US and around the world.

Kimmel didn’t hold back as he read it. “Bad Bunny got a bad review from our bad president, unfortunately,” he joked setting up the roast that followed.

Kimmel fires back with a brutal reminder

After quoting Trump’s words, Kimmel delivered the line that got the biggest laughs. He reminded viewers that Trump once paid off a porn star who, as Kimmel put it, “spanked him with his own face on a magazine.”

The point was clear. Kimmel questioned Trump’s authority to judge what is appropriate for children or what qualifies as moral entertainment.

The crowd reacted loudly, exactly as expected.

Kimmel then shifted his focus to conservative group Turning Point USA and its rival broadcast, the so-called “All American Halftime Show.” He mocked the production and joked that TPUSA should have gone even further.

According to Kimmel, they might as well have aired “the Kristi Noem shoots her puppy bowl,” adding that what they showed instead “was not a good program.”

He continued the jab by saying conservatives constantly complain about how bad everything is, only to remake it in a worse way. “And not only do they do it worse,” Kimmel added, “they do it in jorts.”

Kimmel also noted that Fox News seemed impressed. He said the network thought the TPUSA show was great, and Turning Point itself appeared very pleased with the result.

The show then cut to a clip of a Turning Point USA representative telling Fox News host Brian Kilmeade that the group plans to put on “another halftime show for the country next year.”

The final joke lands hard

Kimmel ended the segment with one last punchline. “Next year it will be Lara Trump with a Ted Nguyen cover band,” he quipped. “They’ve got to do it for the country.”

And just like that, the late-night war over a halftime show turned into another viral moment.

‘I believe Gen Naravane over Penguin’: Rahul Gandhi on alleged leak of ‘Four Stars of Destiny’

Rahul Gandhi, who had last week quoted inside Parliament from a magazine article on the memoir and was later seen holding a ‘copy’ of the book inside the Parliament complex, today claimed that the book was up for pre-order in 2023 and the former Army Chief had also posted on X/Twitter about it.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday reacted to the Delhi Police’s move to file an FIR in connection with the alleged online circulation of former Army Chief General MM Naravane’s unpublished book, ‘Four Stars of Destiny’.

Gandhi, who had last week quoted from a magazine article on the memoir inside Parliament and was later seen holding a ‘copy’ of the book inside the Parliament complex, today claimed that the book was up for pre-order in 2023 and the former Army Chief had also posted on X/Twitter about it.

Gen Naravane, who was India’s 28th Chief of Army Staff, had posted on December 15, 2023: “Hello friends. My book is available now. Just follow the link. Happy reading. Jai Hind.”

Here’s the post:

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, today told the media at the Parliament House complex: “Here is a tweet from Mr Naravane which says – ‘Just follow the link to my book’. The point I am making is – either Mr Naravane is lying or it is Penguin that is lying. I don’t think the former Army chief will lie.”

Gandhi said the publisher of the book, Penguin India, may have denied that the book went into publication or was published either in print or online, but he trusts the former Army Chief on the issue.

“Penguin says the book has not been published. But the book is available on Amazon. Gen Naravane has tweeted, ‘Please buy my book’ in 2023. I believe Naravane ji over Penguin. Do you believe Penguin over Naravane ji? I believe Naravane ji has made certain statements in his book that are inconvenient for the Government of India and the Prime Minister of India. Obviously, you have to decide if Penguin or the former Army Chief is telling the truth,” the Congress leader added.

The Delhi Police yesterday registered the FIR, taking cognisance of reports that a pre-print copy of the unpublished book was being circulated online without mandatory official clearance.

The police found in its preliminary probe that a type-set PDF copy of the book with the same title and apparently prepared by Penguin Random House India Private Limited, was available on certain websites.

Some online shopping and marketing platforms were also said to be carrying the final cover of the book, suggesting it was already available for sale, police sources said.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police decided to file the FIR, considering the book was authored by a former Army Chief.

The police investigation into the matter continues.

Adnan Sami tells Congress, Sanjay Raut to ‘kindly move on’ after lunch with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat

Singer Adnan Sami sparked a political storm after sharing a meal with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in Mumbai. Hitting back at Congress and Sanjay Raut, Sami asked critics to “kindly move on” and said he spreads love through music, not politics.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

When singer-composer Adnan Sami shared pictures of himself dining with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in Mumbai, the internet did what it does best: explode. And this time the criticism didn’t stay polite or subtle. From sharp political attacks to personal jabs, the controversy quickly turned messy.

The trigger was two-day event in Mumbai held to mark the centenary celebrations of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Several well-known faces attended. Among them was Adnan Sami, whose presence instantly drew attention.

The singer didn’t just attend quietly. He posted photos from a lunch with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and openly praised him. Sami described the meeting as “incredible” and called Bhagwat a “beautiful soul.”

He also claimed that Bhagwat cleared many “myths and misconceptions” about the RSS during their interaction.

That praise didn’t go down well with everyone.

Maharashtra Congress calls the meeting “anti-national”

Within minutes of Sami’s post, the Maharashtra Congress fired back. The party accused the RSS chief of being “anti-national” for sharing a meal with the singer. Their criticism went straight for Sami’s family background, bringing up his late father, Arshad Sami Khan.

In a sharp post on X, the Congress alleged that Sami’s father, who served in the Pakistan Air Force, had taken part in the 1965 war and destroyed the Pathankot air base. The party ended the post with a blunt conclusion: “RSS = anti-national.”

Adnan Sami hits back

Adnan Sami did not stay silent. Hours after the criticism, he responded with a long and biting post on X, addressing the Maharashtra Congress directly.

He began by invoking the Partition of India, saying it would not be “fair” to blame today’s Congress leaders for what their “forefathers” did. He then went on to lecture them about how nations change over time and how people must accept reality.

Using Pakistan as an example, Sami wrote that although it was once part of India, it is now a “legitimate nation,” and people have accepted that change. He argued that once something happens legally, people should “move on.” He repeated that phrase more than once, clearly aiming it at his critics.

Sami’s response didn’t stop with the Congress. He also took aim at Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, who had criticised him as well.

In a sarcastic twist, Sami compared political blame to bad music. He said it would be wrong to blame Raut’s father for the “atrocious” way Raut plays the harmonium. He mocked Raut’s technique and even offered to teach him, saying his fingering was “completely wrong and misplaced.”

Sami ended this part of his response by calling himself “not a politician” but a musician who spreads love through songs. He signed off with “Jai Hind & Jai Maharashtra.”

Praise for Mohan Bhagwat keeps the fire burning

The controversy has not cooled because Sami’s original praise for Mohan Bhagwat remains unchanged.

In his post, he described the RSS chief as eloquent and claimed he clarified many misconceptions about the organisation.

For critics, this praise is the real issue. They argue that such public admiration helps normalise the RSS and ignores its long-standing political and ideological controversies.

Rohit Shetty house firing case: Lawrence Bishnoi gang mechanic supplied weapon, Signal app used for secret chats

Mumbai Police say the weapon used in the firing outside Rohit Shetty’s Juhu home was supplied by a mechanic linked to the Bishnoi gang. Investigators have also found that the accused used the Signal app to communicate and hide their plans.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Rohit Shetty House Firing Case: Four gunshots outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s plush Juhu home turned the city’s gossip mill into overdrive. Who planned it? Who supplied the gun? And how deep does the underworld link go? Now, the Mumbai Crime Branch says it has cracked open a dark, greasy garage-door secret behind the firing that shook Bollywood.

A garage mechanic with a gang past

Investigators say the man who supplied the weapon, Asaram Fasle alias Babu, was not some random middleman. For the last four years, Fasle allegedly worked as a garage mechanic for the Bishnoi gang.

Police claim he slipped into the gang’s network under the influence of Shubham Lonkar, a name that keeps popping up in serious crime files.

Lonkar, according to police, is the alleged mastermind behind both the Baba Siddique murder case and the firing outside Rohit Shetty’s house.

Crime Branch officers say Fasle followed Lonkar’s instructions carefully and played a key role in passing on the weapon.

How the gun changed hands

The Crime Branch has told the court that Fasle handed over the weapons to Swapnil Sakat. These weapons were later used by an unidentified shooter who fired outside Shetty’s residence. The police believe this was not a random act but part of a planned conspiracy.

During the court hearing, police also revealed that a social media post had claimed responsibility for the firing, adding another chilling layer to the case.

Arrests, custody, court drama

The police action moved fast. On February 1, Mumbai Police arrested four people shortly after the firing incident. All of them were sent to police custody. The fifth accused, Asaram Fasle, was arrested on Thursday, February 5, and produced before Mumbai’s Esplanade Court, also known as Killa Court, along with the other accused.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge sent all five accused to police custody till February 11, 2026.

The court called the offence serious and pointed to a clear criminal conspiracy. The judge also said a detailed investigation was needed and ordered joint interrogation of all five accused.

Secret chats and the Signal trail

Police told the court that the accused used the Signal app to communicate choosing it to keep their conversations hidden. Investigators are now trying to recover more deleted chats, especially messages linked to Shubham Lonkar.

Officers believe these chats could reveal who planned what and who gave the final go-ahead.

Because of the seriousness of the case, the police asked for maximum custody of the four accused arrested earlier and a 10-day custody for Fasle.

Defence pushback inside court

Inside the courtroom, the defence pushed back hard. The lawyer representing the first accused argued that his client was not present at the spot during the firing. He claimed the arrest was based only on circumstantial evidence and said there was no proven link between his client and Shubham Lonkar.

Lawyers for three other accused took a different route. They requested judicial custody instead of police custody, arguing that there was no involvement beyond their alleged role in providing the vehicle used in the case.

Anti-extortion cell steps in

Adding another twist, the Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell arrested one more accused on Thursday in connection with the firing.

Police confirmed that this accused was the person who supplied the weapon used in the attack.

“The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell has arrested Asaram Fasle alias Babu in connection with the firing incident at Bollywood director Rohit Shetty’s residence. He was responsible for supplying the weapon used in the firing,” police said in an official statement.

PM Modi praises ‘Bastar Pandum,’ highlights cultural revival, development in Chhattisgarh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the successful ayojan of ‘Bastar Pandum’, a three-day cultural festival held in Chhattisgarh from February 7 to 9, saying it showcased the rich cultural, traditional, and tribal heritage of the Bastar region and reflected a positive transformation in the area.

UNI | New Delhi |

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the successful ayojan of ‘Bastar Pandum’, a three-day cultural festival held in Chhattisgarh from February 7 to 9, saying it showcased the rich cultural, traditional, and tribal heritage of the Bastar region and reflected a positive transformation in the area.

‎In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister congratulated everyone associated with the event and underlined the importance of such initiatives in preserving India’s cultural legacy.

‎“Between 7 and 9 February, a special event called ‘Bastar Pandum’ was organized in Chhattisgarh. During this festival, the rich culture, traditions, and tribal heritage of Bastar were showcased in a grand manner,” Modi said.

‎He added that community-driven cultural platforms play a crucial role beyond celebration.

‎“Such events play an important role in preserving our cultural heritage and empowering local communities,” the Prime Minister noted, while extending “heartfelt congratulations” to all those involved in organising the festival.

‎Highlighting the region’s changing narrative, Modi said Bastar was once largely associated with Maoism, violence, and underdevelopment, but the situation has undergone a significant transformation in recent years.

‎“Earlier, when Bastar was mentioned, it evoked images of Maoism, violence and backwardness. But now the situation has completely changed,” he said.

‎According to the Prime Minister, Bastar today is increasingly being recognised for development initiatives and the growing confidence among its people.

‎“Today, Bastar is known not only for development but also for the growing self-confidence of its local people,” he said.

‎Expressing optimism for the region’s future, Modi said he hoped Bastar would continue on a path of peace, progress, and cultural pride.

‎“It is my sincere hope that the times ahead for this region are filled with peace, progress, and a sense of cultural pride,” he added.

‎‘Bastar Pandum’ is a cultural festival aimed at celebrating Bastar’s indigenous traditions, tribal art forms, folk music, dance, cuisine and customs. The event is part of broader efforts to promote tribal heritage, tourism and inclusive development in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, which has historically been affected by left-wing extremism.

BJP, RSS two sides of same coin with deep rooted links: Shiv Sena(UBT) in ‘Saamana’

The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) on Tuesday said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has moved away from its earlier “pure and honest” character, becoming complicit in the BJP’s alleged corruption and unconstitutional acts.

IANS | New Delhi |

The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) on Tuesday said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has moved away from its earlier “pure and honest” character, becoming complicit in the BJP’s alleged corruption and unconstitutional acts.

It alleged that the “mother organisation” has either lost control over the BJP or is a silent beneficiary of its actions.

Referring to a dialogue organised on the occasion of the RSS centenary in Mumbai last week and the observations made by the RSS chief Dr Bhagwat, the Thackeray camp in the party’s mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ editorial claimed that the BJP and the RSS are two sides of the same coin, and the Sangh is a “participant in all the sins” committed by the BJP as the ruling power.

The editorial said, “Some points in his address were truly strange and confusing. For instance, the RSS is merely a non-governmental organisation (NGO) with no direct involvement in politics. Bhagwat claimed that while PM Modi is the Prime Minister, his party is the BJP, and the BJP and RSS are entirely separate entities. He argued that while some volunteers are in the government, it does not mean the Sangh is in power. Who is Bhagwat trying to fool? He might confuse those in front of him for a while, but the country is not foolish.”

It pointed to historical precedents, such as the 1970s, Janata Party collapse over the “dual membership” issue, as proof of the deep-rooted links between the two.

The Thackeray camp further said that in Delhi, the Sangh’s five-star office was built at Jhandewalan Estate, and a 150-year-old temple was bulldozed because the parking space was insufficient. This happened due to the arrogance of sharing power with the BJP. “The Sangh is now openly involved in the BJP’s corruption, criminality, and unconstitutional acts. Therefore, they cannot claim to have no connection with the BJP; saying the Sangh and BJP are separate is a total lie,” it said.

The editorial said the event saw an unusual turnout of high-profile celebrities, including actors Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, alongside various scientists, legal experts, and industrialists. “Such stars were rarely seen at Sangh platforms before the ‘Modi era’, suggesting their presence might stem from a desire to avoid political friction rather than genuine ideological alignment. Notably, Ranbir Kapoor’s attendance was a departure from the staunch communist legacy of his grandfather, Raj Kapoor,” it added.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena said the BJP has split Hindutva organisations and bought MLAs and MPs. They have taken control of the country’s courts and the Election Commission like “Hitler”.

“While the RSS chief spoke of communal harmony, there is a silence of Sangh-affiliated leaders regarding hate speech and provocative actions by BJP Chief Ministers, such as those in Assam. Does Salman’s presence on a Sangh stage mean the doors are open for all Muslims? PM Modi, Amit Shah, and CM Fadnavis engage in divisive politics. The CM of Assam displayed a poster of himself aimed at Muslims with a gun, yet the ‘Sangh’s Prime Minister’ remains silent. The Assam CM even suggests not paying fare to Muslim rickshaw pullers, and the law remains impotent,” it remarked.

The editorial claimed that despite the efforts of millions of volunteers to keep the BJP in power, key ideological goals, including the creation of “Akhand Bharat, awarding the Bharat Ratna to Savarkar, and stopping the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh, remain unfulfilled”.

Rohit Shetty breaks silence on ‘Golmaal 5’ adaptation rumours

Rohit Shetty has clarified that ‘Golmaal 5’ is not based on the classic comedy ‘Do Aur Do Paanch’ amid ongoing reports and speculation.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Director Rohit Shetty is gearing up to begin work on the fifth instalment of his popular comedy franchise Golmaal, with filming expected to start in March 2026.

However, ahead of production, the filmmaker has addressed reports suggesting that Golmaal 5 is based on the classic comedy Do Aur Do Paanch.

Rohit Shetty clears adaptation rumours

Putting the rumours to rest, Shetty has firmly denied any such connection and clarified that the upcoming film is not inspired by or adapted from the 1980 Amitabh Bachchan–Shashi Kapoor starrer.

Official clarification issued

Following widespread reports online, the director’s team released a strong statement, “We wish to issue a strict clarification regarding certain news reports currently circulating across online and digital media platforms claiming that Golmaal 5 is inspired by or based on the film `Do Aur Do Paanch’.”

They also said, “We categorically state that these reports are factually incorrect, misleading and completely untrue. We strongly request all media houses, publications, portals, and digital platforms to refrain from publishing or circulating unverified information.”

“Any news, update or clarification pertaining to Rohit Shetty or Golmaal 5 must be verified with us or the official PR representatives – Universal Communications, prior to publication or Strict Legal action will be taken. We expect your cooperation in maintaining journalistic accuracy and responsibility. We also request that incorrect reports currently in circulation be corrected or taken down at the earliest.”, the team concluded.

Cast speculation and earlier reports

Reports had earlier suggested that Golmaal 5 would feature Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and franchise regulars Arshad Warsi, Kunal Kemmu, Sharman Joshi, and Tusshar Kapoor.

Some claims even stated that Shetty planned to rework Do Aur Do Paanch within the Golmaal universe, while keeping the franchise’s comic style intact.

These rumours gained traction after a Bollywood Hungama report claimed that Shetty often draws inspiration from classic Hindi comedies. However, the director has now categorically denied this link.

Security concerns around the film

Meanwhile, security arrangements around the project have been tightened following reports of gunshots fired outside Shetty’s Juhu residence. Mumbai Police have increased protection at his home and are planning similar measures at the Golmaal 5 sets.

The production team is coordinating with local authorities and Shetty’s personal security to ensure the safety of the cast and crew during filming.

Production plans and release timeline

Production on Golmaal 5 is expected to begin by the end of February at Film City, Mumbai, with a theatrical release planned for early 2027.

The film will mark the sixth collaboration between Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar after films like Suhaag, Khakee, Sooryavanshi, and Singham Again.

Rohit Shetty is currently wrapping up work on the Rakesh Maria biopic starring John Abraham. Ajay Devgn is busy shooting Drishyam 3, while Akshay Kumar will join Golmaal 5 after completing his upcoming comedy with Vidya Balan.

Jana Nayagan row: Madras HC allows KVN Productions to withdraw case, producers to follow CBFC review process

Vijay’s much-anticipated film ‘Jana Nayagan’ faces a legal twist as KVN Productions withdraws their plea in the Madras High Court. The movie’s certification process with the CBFC will now continue, keeping fans on edge.

Statesman News Service | New Delhi |

Vijay’s much-awaited ‘Jana Nayagan’, which is rumoured to be his final film before entering politics, has been at the center of legal drama that could rival any thriller on the big screen. And now in dramatic turn, Madras High Court has allowed KVN Productions, makers of the movie, to withdraw their plea challenging Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

But before you think the drama is over, let’s rewind and take you through all the twists and turns.

Producers pull back, but the fireworks aren’t done

On Tuesday, February 10, Justice PT Asha officially allowed KVN Productions to withdraw their petition. The request came via advocate Vijayan Subramaniam, who informed the court that the production house wanted to continue with the CBFC review process instead of litigation.

The High Court promptly posted the case as ‘for withdrawal,’ effectively ending this particular legal tussle. For now.

But why was the case even filed in the first place? The answer lies in delays that left fans fuming. CBFC responsible for certifying films for public release had reportedly promised a ‘UA’ certificate after certain modifications to the movie.

Yet even after complying, the certificate didn’t materialise, prompting KVN Productions to approach the court.

The CBFC controversy: Complaints, committees, confusion

Things got messy when the CBFC sent ‘Jana Nayagan’ to its revising committee. The production house argued that this was unnecessary, since they had already made the requested edits and were told the certificate would be issued.

The CBFC explained that the move came after a complaint from a member of the examining committee. According to the complaint, some scenes in the film could potentially hurt religious sentiments and even portray the armed forces inaccurately. This decision turned a routine certification into a full-blown court drama.

Single judge rules in favour of Vijay’s team

Back on January 9, a single judge sided with KVN Productions, directing the CBFC to certify the film immediately. The court slammed the CBFC’s decision to send the movie for review after previously assuring certification, calling it ‘without jurisdiction.’

The judge also criticised the board for entertaining complaints from committee members after they had already submitted their recommendations.

It seemed like victory for Vijay fans… but the story was far from over.

Division bench stays the order, criticises both sides

No Kollywood drama is complete without a twist. Immediately after the single judge’s ruling, an urgent mention was made before the Chief Justice’s bench. On the same day, the division bench stayed the earlier order.

The bench didn’t mince words. They criticised the producers for ‘creating urgency’ and allegedly pressuring the judicial system.

At the same time, they also set aside the single judge’s decision, noting that the CBFC was not given a proper opportunity to present its case.

The division bench further clarified that the single judge shouldn’t have overturned the Chairperson’s order in the first place since there was no request to do so.

Back to square one: Fresh adjudication ordered

The division bench sent the case back to the single judge for a fresh hearing. KVN Productions were instructed to revise their petition to specifically challenge the Chairperson’s decision to send the movie for review.

In other words, while fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing the movie isn’t caught in litigation anymore, the court drama has merely entered a new phase.

What this means for Thalapathy Vijay fans

For the star-studded audience eagerly waiting to see Vijay’s on-screen farewell before he dives into politics, this is both good and slightly nerve-wracking news.

The producers have officially withdrawn their lawsuit, meaning they are following the CBFC review process. But the legal machinery is still ticking in the background, and any last-minute hitches could make headlines again.

So, while fans celebrate a small victory with hopes that Vijay’s political debut won’t be delayed by his cinematic exit, the saga of ‘Jana Nayagan’ just shows that Kollywood movies can have as much drama off-screen as they do on it.

Budget Session: BJP women MPs demand “strongest action” over Lok Sabha incident

Backing Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) women MPs on Tuesday demanded “the strongest possible action” against Opposition MPs over the February 4 incident, when Opposition women MPs reportedly “surrounded the Prime Minister’s seat” ahead of his arrival during the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address.

UNI | New Delhi |

Backing Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) women MPs on Tuesday demanded “the strongest possible action” against Opposition MPs over the February 4 incident, when Opposition women MPs reportedly “surrounded the Prime Minister’s seat” ahead of his arrival during the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address.

In a letter to the Speaker, the BJP MPs alleged that Opposition women MPs “surrounded the Prime Minister’s seat” on February 4 and later approached the Speaker’s chamber aggressively. They called for “the strongest possible action” against those involved, describing the episode as “unfortunate and regrettable” and saying it had damaged the dignity of Parliament. The MPs said failure to act could set a dangerous precedent and erode public trust in democratic institutions.

The letter came in response to a complaint by Congress women MPs accusing the ruling party of making “false, baseless, and defamatory” claims against them. The BJP MPs alleged that opposition members entered the Well of the House, climbed tables, tore papers, and threw them toward the Speaker. They said they remained calm following instructions from senior leaders and called the episode one of the “darkest moments in the history of our parliamentary democracy.”

Speaker Birla had earlier said he had requested PM Modi not to attend the House to prevent any “unpleasant incident” after learning that some Congress MPs might approach the Prime Minister’s seat. Congress women MPs, in turn, said their protests were peaceful and in line with parliamentary norms but claimed they faced “unprecedented targeting.”

The BJP letter also highlighted that during the Motion of Thanks, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi was repeatedly denied an opportunity to speak over four days.

Opposition MPs have been protesting the Speaker’s refusal to allow Rahul Gandhi to cite contentious excerpts from Naravane’s memoir related to the 2020 India-China border standoff. BJP members objected strongly, accusing Gandhi of misleading the House and disrespecting the armed forces. Speaker Om Birla condemned the disruptions as “planned” and unbecoming of Parliament

Meanwhile, opposition parties are looking to firm up their strategy during the ongoing budget session. Leaders of the INDIA bloc are scheduled to meet on February 10 at 10 am to discuss floor coordination, key issues to be raised in Parliament, and a unified response to recent political and parliamentary developments.

Separately, the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting on February 10, with discussions expected to focus on key foreign policy matters amid evolving global developments. The meeting comes at a politically significant moment during the budget session.

The row comes amid a Lok Sabha stalemate over Rahul Gandhi’s address during the Motion of Thanks, in which he cited former Army Chief General MM Naravane’s memoir on the 2020 border standoff with China.

’80-90 MLAs requested high command to give DK Shivakumar a chance for CM post’: Karnataka Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain

Karnataka Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain said that at least 80 party MLAs had given Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s name for the CM post to the high command.

ANI | New Delhi |

Karnataka Congress MLA Iqbal Hussain said that at least 80 party MLAs had given Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s name for the CM post to the high command.
Speaking to ANI on Monday, Iqbal Hussain slammed Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah for giving statements in favour of his father and CM Siddaramaiah, and asked him to “act with discipline.”

“We have left it for the high command. 80-90 MLAs have requested the high command to give a chance to DK Shivakumar (for the CM post). We are a disciplined party, and we have to behave decently. We don’t like him (Yathindra Siddaramaiah) speaking in favour of his father again and again and embarrassing the high command… Every father loves son, and son loves father, but in politics, we have to act with discipline. Provoking others with such statements shouldn’t happen,” Iqbal Hussain said.

“We all have in our hearts that DK Shivakumar be given a chance. Everyone is wishing for it, but we shouldn’t create any confusion by statements that’s why everyone is quiet, and some are speaking between them, I’m clearly saying with an open heart as I said from the first day that DK Shivakumar must be given a chance in this tenure itself, this is my wish,” he added.

Congress MLC Channaraj Hattiholi also said, “I wish DK Shivakumar should be the CM soon in this tenure.”

Last week, Yathindra Siddaramaiah reportedly said that the Congress high command has given the green light for Siddaramaiah to continue as CM for the full term.
Reacting to Yathindra’s remarks in favour of his father, DK Shivakumar said, “I accept whatever he says with respect. Since he has spoken as if he is the High Command, let us accept him as such.”

The leadership tussle within the Karnataka Congress began in November 2025, when the government reached the halfway mark of its five-year term. Along with CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, Home Minister G Parameshwara is also in the fray for the top post.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday accused the United States of attempting to block India and other partner countries from purchasing Russian oil, alleging that Washington is using sanctions, tariffs, and direct prohibitions to push its own energy exports and secure economic dominance.

Speaking in an interview with TV BRICS, Lavrov said there were active efforts to prevent India and others from accessing what he described as “cheap, affordable Russian energy resources”, while forcing countries to buy US liquefied natural gas (LNG) at significantly higher prices. His remarks were reported by Sputnik.

Lavrov’s comments come at a time when India has reiterated that its energy decisions are guided solely by national interest, amid reports suggesting a possible recalibration of Russian oil imports. New Delhi has maintained that affordability, availability, and reliability remain the cornerstones of its energy policy.

Lavrov cites Ukraine talks, sanctions and tanker restrictions

Referring to earlier diplomatic engagements, Lavrov recalled discussions with the US on resolving the Ukraine conflict and said Moscow had accepted a proposal put forward during talks held in Anchorage last year.

“They (the US) tell us that the Ukraine problem should be resolved. In Anchorage, we accepted the US proposal… The US position was important to us. By accepting their proposal, we seem to have completed the task of resolving the Ukrainian issue and moving on to a dull-scale, broad-based and mutually beneficial cooperation. So far, the reality is quite the opposite,” he said.

Lavrov alleged that instead of cooperation, Washington had intensified pressure on Russia through new sanctions and restrictions on maritime trade.

“New sanctions are imposed; a ‘war’ against tankers in the open sea is being waged in violation of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. They are trying to ban India and our other partners from buying cheap, affordable Russian energy resources (Europe has long been banned) and are forcing them to buy US LNG at exorbitant prices,” he added.

The Russian foreign minister claimed that the US was seeking to control global energy routes as part of a broader strategy to dominate international markets.

‘Coercive measures incompatible with fair competition’

Describing Washington’s approach as coercive, Lavrov said the use of tariffs, sanctions, and direct prohibitions ran counter to the principles of fair competition.

Calling for continued engagement despite tensions, he said Russia remained open to cooperation with major economies.

“We have to take all of this into account while remaining open, just like India, China, Indonesia and Brazil, to cooperation with all countries, including major powers such as the United States. We are in a situation where the Americans themselves are creating artificial obstacles along the way,” he said.

India reiterates energy policy driven by national interest

Hours after Lavrov’s remarks, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri underlined that India’s energy decisions would continue to be guided by national interest.

He said the key drivers of India’s energy policy were “adequate availability, fair pricing and reliability of supply”, particularly as the country remains a net importer of oil and gas.

Misri noted that as a developing economy, India must remain mindful of resource constraints and the inflationary impact of import dependence, adding that protecting consumer interests remains a top government priority.

Earlier, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal clarified that decisions on Russian oil imports are taken independently by domestic buyers and are not influenced by the recently concluded India-US interim trade agreement framework.

Speaking to ANI on Sunday, Goyal said it was in India’s “strategic interest” to diversify its energy sources and dismissed suggestions of any bilateral consensus dictating procurement choices.

The Ministry of External Affairs has also reiterated that diversification of energy sourcing, in line with market realities and shifting global dynamics, remains central to ensuring long-term energy security for India’s population of 1.4 billion.

Running LS in ‘blatantly partisan manner’: Congress submits no-confidence motion notice against Speaker Om Birla

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said the notice for a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was submitted at 1.14 pm today.

In a big development, the Congress party on Tuesday, February 10, submitted a notice of no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The notice, which reportedly has the signatures of 118 MPs, was submitted to the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said the notice was submitted at 1.14 pm today. “We submitted notice for a no-confidence motion against the Lok Sabha Speaker under Rule 94C of the rules and procedures,” Gogoi said.

A total of 118 MPs have signed the notice of no-confidence motion against the Lok Sabha Speaker, Congress sources were reported as saying by news agency ANI. The sources added that Rahul Gandhi did not sign the notice as it is not proper for the LoP to sign a petition for the removal of the Speaker in a parliamentary democracy.

The no-confidence motion notice against the Lok Sabha Speaker reportedly states, “Notice of a resolution for the removal of Om Birla from the office of Speaker Lok Sabha, in terms of the provisions of Article 94(c) of the Constitution of India, has been given because of the blatantly partisan manner in which he has been conducting the business of the Lok Sabha. On several occasions, Leaders of Opposition Parties have just not been allowed to speak, which is their basic democratic right in Parliament.”

The Lok Sabha Speaker is reported to have directed the Secretary General, Lok Sabha, to examine the notice and take appropriate action. Lok Sabha Secretariat sources, meanwhile, confirmed that the Opposition has submitted the notice of no-confidence against the Lok Sabha Speaker, and it will be examined and processed as per the rules.

The development came hours after opposition INDIA bloc floor leaders met this morning in the office of the Leader of Opposition, Rajya Sabha, and Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, in the Parliament House complex. Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi also attended the meeting.

The Lok Sabha, meanwhile, continued to face disruption today amid opposition protests over various issues. The Lower House convened for the day at 11 am and was first adjourned till 12 noon, and then till 2 pm.

Before the last adjournment, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said in the House: “We requested the Congress party with folded hands that there should be discussions on the Budget… The Congress party does not want to start speaking. They create a ruckus every day by coming into the well. The Congress party has already damaged the dignity of the Parliament…”

Earlier, a Congress MP claimed today that over 125 signatures have been obtained for the no-confidence motion against the Lok Sabha Speaker. “The Opposition is united,” MP Sukhdeo Bhagat told ANI.

Referring to the letter written by women MPs of the BJP to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Bhagat stated, “The Opposition is being portrayed with a criminal image, which is saddening. If the Prime Minister feels so insecure in Parliament, should the SPG be deployed inside the House, or should his cabin be surrounded by bulletproof glass? The whole incident is disgraceful not only towards elected women MPs but towards women as a whole.”

Another Congress MP, Pramod Tiwari, said the Opposition has the right to bring a no-confidence motion against the Speaker in the Lok Sabha as per the Constitution.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut indicated that the Opposition would move the motion if the Lok Sabha fails to function today as well.

“Yesterday, when the House started, even the Lok Sabha Speaker did not cooperate. Today we will try again. If Om Birla does not agree, and his actions remain like this, the Opposition will have to bring a no-confidence motion against him. We will have to give a notice today,” Raut stated.

Sasikala to field candidates in TN Assembly polls, announcement on Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary

V.K. Sasikala is set to field candidates in select constituencies in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking a fresh attempt to reassert her political presence in the state.

IANS | New Delhi |

V.K. Sasikala is set to field candidates in select constituencies in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking a fresh attempt to reassert her political presence in the state.

Sources close to her camp said the former aide of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is preparing to test her influence, particularly in the southern districts and the Thevar belt, where she is believed to retain a loyal support base.

Her supporters are likely to contest under the banner of the Anna Dravidiar Kazhagam, a party floated in 2018 by her brother V.K. Divakaran.

The move is seen as a strategic effort to carve out an independent political space after years on the margins of Tamil Nadu’s fast-evolving electoral landscape.

Sasikala has reportedly been holding a series of consultations with loyalists and former party functionaries to assess grassroots support and finalise the scale of her electoral intervention. As part of this groundwork, she is said to be planning a public meeting in Kallakurichi district during the second week of February to mobilise cadres and signal her renewed political engagement.

An official announcement on her future course of action is expected on February 24, coinciding with Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary — a date of symbolic importance for her followers.

Observers say the timing is intended to evoke the legacy of the late leader and reconnect with AIADMK cadres who continue to view Sasikala as part of that political lineage. Her renewed efforts come against the backdrop of a turbulent political journey. Once considered one of the most powerful figures in the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Sasikala briefly served as interim general secretary following Jayalalithaa’s death in 2016. However, her career suffered a major setback after her conviction in the disproportionate assets case, which led to a four-year prison term and her subsequent expulsion from the party.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has since firmly ruled out her re-entry into the party.

Meanwhile, her relationship with her nephew T.T.V. Dhinakaran has also remained strained, with several Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam functionaries earlier expelled for maintaining contact with her.

Attempts to secure alliances with either the AIADMK or the National Democratic Alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, have so far failed to gain traction.

With the 2026 polls approaching, Sasikala’s decision to field candidates could determine whether she re-emerges as a meaningful political player or remains on the fringes of Tamil Nadu politics.

Choosing passion over payment

For Vikrant, the decision was also deeply personal, as it helped him honour a long-standing promise he had made to director Vishal Bhardwaj.

A big-budget and ambitious project

Mounted on a budget of around Rs 75–80 crore, ‘O’Romeo’ is among the most expensive projects of Shahid Kapoor’s career. The film is expected to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office to be considered a hit. It also stands out as one of Vishal Bhardwaj’s most ambitious directorial ventures so far.

Vikrant Massey’s promise to Vishal Bhardwaj

Vishal Bhardwaj revealed that Vikrant had agreed to be part of ‘O’Romeo’ years ago, at a time when he was still finding his footing in the industry. Even after achieving massive success with ‘12th Fail’, the actor chose to honour his earlier commitment.

According to Vishal, Vikrant told him that watching ‘Maqbool’ played a major role in inspiring him to become an actor. This special appearance, which Vikrant shot over 8–9 days, was his way of giving back. Vishal added that Vikrant’s performance adds strong emotional weight to the film.

Tamannaah’s role and commitment

Vishal Bhardwaj also shared that Tamannaah Bhatia agreed to join the film without charging any remuneration, despite the film’s tight budget. While her role is brief, it plays a key part in revealing an important twist in the story.

Tamannaah immediately agreed to the project and ended up shooting for nearly 12 days, more than initially planned. She also took part in workshops and rehearsals to fully prepare for her character. Vishal noted that her dedication left a lasting impression on the entire team.

Cast, crew, and release date

Apart from Shahid Kapoor, the film features Triptii Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Nana Patekar, Farida Jalal, and Disha Patani in key roles.

Presented by Sajid Nadiadwala, ‘O’Romeo’ is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and produced under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on February 13, 2026.

Hindus protest in Washington over human rights violations in Bangladesh

Hindu community members and human rights advocates held a peaceful protest outside the US State Department here, urging the government to take stronger action over what they described as persecution of religious minorities in Bangladesh.

IANS | New Delhi |

Hindu community members and human rights advocates held a peaceful protest outside the US State Department here, urging the government to take stronger action over what they described as persecution of religious minorities in Bangladesh.

The demonstrators gathered in the cold weather, holding banners and placards that called for justice and accountability. Several speakers appealed directly to US officials, international bodies, and global human rights organisations to intervene.

Srikanth Akunuri of Hindu Action urged US authorities to act decisively. “We request the US State Department to ensure persecution of minorities is completely stopped, and the culprits have to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of law in the US or the International Court of Justice,” he said.

Akunuri also pressed for international oversight of Bangladesh’s upcoming polls. “Also, we request the US Government to send neutral observers to Bangladesh during elections in February 2026 ensure democracy is restored in Bangladesh,” he said.

Pankaj Mehta, a human rights advocate from Interfaith Peace Vigil Against Terror, echoed those concerns and said the situation described during the protest raised serious alarms.

“Today’s testimony was deeply troubling — it points to targeted violence against minorities and weak accountability,” Mehta said. “As interfaith human rights advocates, we stand with the victims and strongly condemn the failure of the Bangladeshi government to protect minorities and prosecute perpetrators.”

Mehta said minority safety must be treated as a core global obligation. “Human rights and minority safety are non-negotiable — all eyes must now be on Bangladesh,” he added.

Participants said the protest was aimed at drawing attention to what they described as sustained abuses against Hindu minorities and at pressing democratic governments to respond with urgency.

Aruna Pal, a physician and human rights activist, described the issue as a moral challenge for the international community.

Pal condemned violence against minorities in South Asia. “Barbaric action against Hindus in Bangladesh/Pakistan should have been rejected/condemned by the whole world,” she said.

She argued that global institutions have a responsibility to respond forcefully.

“There must have been the whole world, all the organisations’ moral duty to stop funding of this kind of cowardly vultures, who are engaged in this kind of anti minority activities,” Pal said.

She also framed the issue in broader cultural and spiritual terms. “All have to make a goal to strengthen a power that is stronger than these demonic powers that are funding these vultures,” Pal said. “These people with devta thoughts must be able to defund demonic thoughts.”

Bangladesh has faced periodic international scrutiny over minority rights, including concerns raised by rights groups and foreign governments in recent years.

The United States has said it monitors human rights conditions globally and raises such issues in bilateral and multilateral forums.
