Delhi on Thursday reported two more COVID-related deaths in the past 24 hours, including a 5-month-old infant and an 87-year-old man, highlighting the virus’s continued risk to both the very young and elderly.
West Bengal recorded 60 fresh Covid-19 cases, including a seven-month-old baby during the last 24 hours indicating a sharp rise in the number of patients affected by the deadly viral disease.
Kerala with 1,147 cases is the worst-hit state, followed by Maharashtra (424), Delhi (294), and Gujarat (223).
Following the detection of new COVID-19 cases in Durg and Raipur on Monday, the Chhattisgarh Health Department has gone on high alert, launching a comprehensive surveillance protocol to curb the potential spread of infections.
The state on Monday had reported 510 cases while it recorded 623 and 695 cases on Sunday and Saturday respectively, implying that the pandemic is now on a steady downward trajectory in the coastal State.
At present, India has 3,09,575 active cases, lowest in 184 days, as it declined by 8,606 in the last 24 hours, which is 0.92 per cent of the total infections
In a worrying development, however, ninety-six children are among the 628 people who tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 10,18,926. Yesterday the State had logged 580 positive cases.
Six fresh fatalities pushed the state’s coronavirus death toll to 8,098 while the test positivity rate (TPR) of the samples clinically tested in the last 24 hours stood at 1.07%. Of the new patients, 103 are children and adolescents.
With 745 added to the tally, the state’s COVID-19 tally rose to 10,15,083. With six fresh fatalities, the death toll climbed to 8,084, said officials of the State health and family welfare department.
