The event was part of the 'Swachhata Se Swagat’ drive, a cleanliness campaign, being organised by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the city.
In a major development, the Union ministry of AYUSH announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely attend the main International Yoga Day celebrations in Kolkata on 21 June, with this year’s flagship national programme set to be hosted in the city.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) celebrated the occasion at its regional headquarters for the Eastern Region in Kolkata with a programme attended by senior officials and staff.
The 11th International Yoga Day was marked by twin narratives in Jharkhand — one led by the BJP, emphasising India’s cultural and spiritual heritage, and the other by the state government projecting yoga as an instrument of health and public welfare.
The event was held on Saturday at the Sun Dial Lawns of the Qutub Minar Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In a nationwide grand celebration of International Day for Yoga, 81 heritage sites under the aegis of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) hosted vibrant yoga sessions, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush on Saturday.
Held under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” the events on Saturday morning saw enthusiastic participation from elderly residents, students, and teachers, uniting them in mass yoga practice, officials here said.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will perform Yoga at Yamuna Riverfront in Sonia Vihar while Home Minister Ashish Sood will participate in a Yoga event at Chhatrasal stadium at 6 am.
"Services will be available on all lines at an interval of 30 minutes from 4 am onwards till the commencement of passenger services as per daily timetable," a DMRC official said.
