Under the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, a total number of 46 hostels have been sanctioned for 5185 beneficiaries and an amount of Rs 126.30 crores has been sanctioned.

The findings of the report revealed that the first-year student of the postgraduate computer science engineering department was allegedly forced into giving a written undertaking and was allegedly prevented from rushing him to a hospital after he was taken ill.
According to a fire official, a minor blaze broke out in the electricity meter panel on the ground floor of the hostel. However, no one was injured in the incident, the DFS said.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire and assess the structural integrity of the affected areas.

Upadhyay said that increasing mobility of students, to seek the education they desire, raises the demand for hostel facilities in the capital city. Hostel as a residential unit can foster community living, and provide security, especially for women students, who cannot live alone, or even in small groups, in strange cities, he informed.
"Freshers shall be lodged, as far as may be, in a separate hostel block or wing and the institution shall ensure that access of seniors to accommodation allotted to freshers is strictly monitored by wardens, security guards..."
The students have been asking the administration to roll back the fee hike and as a sign of protest, have been boycotting the exams and the registration process.
