The Hathras stampede, in which 121 people, mostly women and children, were killed, completed one year on Wednesday but the cause of the tragedy is yet to be established and the people responsible for the deaths are yet to be punished.

The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan who was booked by the Uttar Pradesh government under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in 2020 while he was on his way to reach Hathras for covering the alleged gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl.
The incident took place at 2:15 am today, and while five persons died on the spot, one person succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
