The case was related to the alleged rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl at Boolgarhi village under Chandapa police station.
The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan who was booked by the Uttar Pradesh government under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in 2020 while he was on his way to reach Hathras for covering the alleged gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl.
The incident took place at 2:15 am today, and while five persons died on the spot, one person succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The police assured the people that the matter is under investigation and the guilty will not be spared.
'They do not pay heed to the injustice done to women in the states ruled by their party, but visit Hathras and other places for photo-op with the victim's family,' he said.
'The family wants the case to be transferred to Delhi or Mumbai,' lawyer Seema Kushwaha told reporters
The High Court questioned the 2 am cremation of the 20-year-old, who died after brutal torture and alleged gang rape.
‘Proper security arrangements have been made. The district magistrate and superintendent of police are also accompanying us,’ Anjali Ganwar, Sub Divisional Magistrate said.
'Apart from the meeting, we used to speak on the phone once in a while,' he wrote.
UP government also justified the 2.30 am cremation saying there was a high alert in the district because of the Babri mosque verdict a day later.
