The case was related to the alleged rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl at Boolgarhi village under Chandapa police station.
The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan who was booked by the Uttar Pradesh government under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in 2020 while he was on his way to reach Hathras for covering the alleged gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl.
The incident took place at 2:15 am today, and while five persons died on the spot, one person succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The police assured the people that the matter is under investigation and the guilty will not be spared.
'They do not pay heed to the injustice done to women in the states ruled by their party, but visit Hathras and other places for photo-op with the victim's family,' he said.
The team is headed by UP Home Secretary Bhagwan Swaroop, Deputy Inspector General of Police Chandraprakash and IPS officer Poonam.
While Mr. Adityanath was quick to announce that the case would be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation, this has not evoked a positive response from the family of the victim.
The development comes hours after UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed that those upset about his state's progress were using the Hathras incident to conspire against it.
The monk was none other than Narendranath Dutta who later became Swami Vivekananda. And the ASM was Sharat Chandra Gupta, a Bengali gentleman, who, after getting his ascetic vows, was called Swami Sadananda of the Ramakrishna Mission.
But the doubt persists as the victim’s samples were sent to the forensic lab in Agra 11 days after the incident.
