With 19 Covid fatalities recorded on Thursday, the daily toll has not surpassed 35 registered during the last month.
The new mask requirement came a day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) classified the nation's capital into the category of "substantial" Covid-19 transmission localities, up from the "medium" category.
The emergency was initially declared on May 14 last year with a duration of one month, replacing the state of emergency implemented on March 13.
While the number of fresh Covid 19 cases in the state has dropped from 1,785 on Monday to 17,67 cases on Tuesday, the slight increase in the 13 districts of the state is the reason for worry among health experts and the department.
The increase in trial size will also help assess whether a rare inflammation of the heart muscle, seen in young adults shortly after vaccination, is common in younger age groups, the Washington Post reported.
