Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's son Tejashwi Yadav will not resign as Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) said after the party MLAs’ crucial meeting on Monday.

"Tejashwi Yadav has been a good leader and will always remain one," the party said.

"There is a conspiracy to break the grand alliance, but the state government is very much in place and stable," it said.

RJD leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui said no discussions were held over Tejashwi's resignation as Deputy CM, or on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's silence on the row.

The party discussed the upcoming presidential election and the public meeting called by Lalu Prasad Yadav on 27 August, he said.

He also said the party members discussed how to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming its allegations as nothing more than political vendetta.

The meeting was convened in the wake of several CBI raids on Lalu Prasad Yadav and the FIR against his son Tejashwi.

According to reports, the CBI had on Friday registered a corruption case against Lalu Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, son Tejaswi Yadav, former Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Managing Director PK Goyal; and Sujata, the wife of Lalu's confidante Prem Chand Gupta, on allegations of awarding the tender for development, maintenance and operation of hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006.

The CBI later questioned Rabri Devi and Tejashwi.
