Search for missing Sukhoi-30 resumes; aerial, ground teams put on the job

The search-cum-rescue operation for the missing Sukhoi-30 fighter jet that was halted due to bad weather resumed on Thursday, it is learnt.

According to reports, an IAF C-130 aircraft with electro-optical payload, an Advanced Light Helicopter, and Chetak helicopters were looking for the missing jet.

Four ground teams of IAF personnel, nine of the Indian Army and two of state administration, were deployed on different axis to comb the area.

The fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) with two pilots on board went missing from near the Indo-China border in Assam on Tuesday morning.

On Wednesday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry in a statement said, “No information on missing Indian fighter jet near Sino-India border in Assam.”

The fighter jet that took off from the IAF’s Tezpur air base, 172 km from Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh, was on a routine training mission.

According to a statement issued by the IAF, the jet was a part of a two-aircraft formation, and lost radar and radio contact with the controlling station at around 11.10 a.m.

Last year one Sukhoi-30 MKI crashed near Nagaon town of Assam during a routine sortie. While the two pilots ejected before crash, the crash had led to splinter injuries to some locals in the area.
