Prime Minister Narendra Modi relived his days in Shimla 25 years ago when he stopped for his favourite coffee at the Indian Coffee House on the Mall in Shimla on Wednesday.

He was here to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and his cabinet at the historic Ridge.

Indian Coffee House had been Modi’s ‘once upon a time’ favourite haunt, while he was working as BJP Himachal in-charge that often brought him to Shimla. After the oath-taking ceremony, while passing by the Indian Coffee House on his way to the helipad, the PM stopped  and ordered his favourite coffee.

Bhagirath Verma, a waiter since 1984 at the Coffee House, came out to serve the Prime Minister coffee and butter slice.

Modiji only sipped the coffee, while the public jostled to take his photographs and some clicked selfies with him.

Recalling the old days, Bhagirath Verma said, “It was indeed an honour for me to once again serve him coffee. Modiji, used to often come to the Coffee House along with some media persons. Who knew one day he would be the Prime Minister of India one day,” he said.

“In Shimla, relished coffee at the Indian Coffee House and reminisced old days. The coffee tastes as good as it did two decades ago, when I would frequent Himachal for party work,” the PM later tweeted and put up some photos.

Modi was known to stop by at the Indian Coffee House every time he paid a visit to Shimla. On 27 May, while addressing a public rally on the Historic Ridge, the Indian Coffee House found mention in his speech.
