Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday said there should be proper and fast administration of justice which should also send the message that wrong-doers will be punished.

“The administration of justice needs to be competent, swift, objective and efficient,” said Naidu after releasing book “Trials of Truth” authored by Additional Solicitor General Pinky Anand and Gauri Goburdhun.

He further said that while protecting the rights of citizens, judiciary must instill the confidence that law will indeed take its own course and the guilty will be punished.

“This book deals with some of the landmark criminal cases and provides an insight into their proceedings from a lawyer’s perspective. It indeed will hold the interest of both lawyers and non-lawyers as criminal trials always evoke people’s curiosity,” he said.

Citing Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s immortal creation Sherlock Holmes who said: “It has long been an axiom of mine that little things are infinitely the most important”, Naidu said that many times, those “little things” could be the cause for a major crime and people become ever eager to know exactly what made somebody to commit criminal acts.

All in all, this book is truly gripping and will be a valuable addition to the existing literature on criminal jurisprudence, he said.

Naidu said that one must continue the process of review and evaluation and continue learning from good practices. For an ideal society, we need an efficient law as well as its effective implementation, he added.

The Vice President also said that one must never forget five things — their mother, native place, mother tongue, mother land and teachers in their life.
