His real name, Neill Kirby McMillan Jr., might not have been as widely known as his stage moniker, but his impact on the music scene was significant.

His family confirmed his passing due to a cardiac event, expressing their sentiments on Facebook, stating, “Mojo Nixon was full-tilt, wide-open rock hard, root hog, corner on two wheels + on fire… How you live is how you should die.” They painted a vivid picture of his final moments, describing him after “a blazing show, a raging night, closing the bar, taking no prisoners + a good breakfast with bandmates and friends.”

Born in North Carolina and later moving to Virginia, Nixon’s musical journey took him through Ohio, England, and eventually to Denver, where he kickstarted his career in a punk band called Zebra 123. His migration to San Diego led him to join forces with Country Dick Montana’s group, the Snuggle Bunnies, which marked the beginning of his rise to prominence.
