Many members of the extended family of Urmila Jindal, who was found murdered along with three of her daughters and a security guard at their house in Mansarovar Park, Shahdara, on Saturday, have been questioned by investigating officers.

“The investigation in this particular case is happening in layers. It appears to be a contract killing and we are searching for the killers. We have assigned one team to investigate doubts over the robbery. We are still examining the room where the bodies were found. As the members of extended family were not very close to the deceased no one is aware of the items missing from the house. Another team is looking at the CCTV footage and trying to extract clues or any evidence from the house,” said a senior officer.

Nupur Prasad, DCP, Shahdara, denied that any arrests have been made or that anyone has been detained.  However, family members said some labourers who were whitewashing the wall have been detained.

“Four labourers were detained from the area for questioning. We told police that recently a minor dispute took place between them and Urmila Jindal,” said a family member.
“Since Saturday midnight, family members were asked to cooperate in the investigation and report at Mansarovar police station. Almost all the men went for questioning. They were asked how everyone got along with Urmila Jindal and her daughters. They also sought details of the property owned by the family members and the deceased family. Police has also collected details of the bank accounts of the deceased. Urmila’s only surviving daughter Abha and her husband were also called for questioning and they have been asked to submit details of their bank transactions,” said Shagun Jindal, a relative.

She added, “The family members will cooperate with the investigation. We hope the police arrest the accused.  Dispute over property is just a rumour and there is nothing substantial in such doubts. It looks like a case of robbery-cum-murder but we are completely relying on the police investigation.”

A police official said, “Abha and her doctor husband are suspects as they were the beneficiaries. The CCTV cameras installed in the neighborhood and three at Rakesh Jindal’s adjoining house have been analysed. Local sources have been informed to share any inputs in the case.”
