Helped SP to teach BJP a lesson: Mayawati

BSP supremo Mayawati.

A day after the Samajwadi Party (SP)-Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) combine handed ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) shocking defeat in Uttar Pradesh (UP), the BSP supremo Mayawati on Thursday said all should unite against the saffron party which could go for early Lok Sabha (LS) polls following the latest electoral setback.

Addressing a rally at Chandigarh to pay homage to BSP founder, late Kanshi Ram, on his birth anniversary, Mayawati said she helped the SP in the by-elections for the two LS seats in UP in order to teach the BJP a lesson.

The SP with help of Mayawati’s support bagged the two high-profile LS seats on Wednesday which had been won by a margin over three lakhs in 2014 by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy, Keshav Prasad Maurya.

The BSP leader said ever since the BJP formed government in UP and the Centre, the outfit has been trying to implement the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) agenda in the country.

Mayawati said Dalits, Muslims and the poor have been subjected to atrocities across the country under the BJP rule. She said every section of the society is suffering from the policies of the BJP and the time has come for them to unite against the party and stop the BJP from coming to power in 2019 general elections.

Targeting the Congress, the BSP supremo said like the BJP, the Rahul Gandhi-led party can also can’t do anything good for the poor and the down-trodden.

She said the Congress didn’t implement the Mandal Commission report and even didn’t give the Bharat Ratna to BR Ambedkar during its reign at the Centre for decades.

Without naming the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal, she questioned the recent AAP decision to send rich candidates to the Rajya Sabha by saying that if she didn’t send such candidates to the Upper House by taking money.

Reiterating her allegation, Mayawati said the BJP damaged the BSP politically in the polls for the UP Assembly and Lok Sabha by tempering with the electronic voting machines (EVMs).

She said like in the past, ballot papers should be used in the elections. “The BJP fears using ballot papers in elections,” she said.

The BSP leader said the economy of the country has been damaged by wrong decisions of the Narendra Modi government like demonetisation.

Party workers and leaders from Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana attended the rally which was organised with the slogan with slogan ‘Sanvidhaan Bachaao, Aarakshan Bachaao (save the Constitution, save the reservation).
