The Hathras stampede, in which 121 people, mostly women and children, were killed, completed one year on Wednesday but the cause of the tragedy is yet to be established and the people responsible for the deaths are yet to be punished.
The judicial commission formed to investigate the stampede during the 'satsang' (religious programme) of Suraj Pal alias Bhole Baba on July 2 last year in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras has blamed the organizers along with the police and administration officials for the incident.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has questioned the BJP- led Uttar Pradesh government to explain the reason behind excluding the name of Suraj Pal Singh alias Bhole Baba in the chargesheet filed in conection with Hathras stampede incident in which 131 people were killed.
A SP spokesperson said here on Thursday that senior party leaders went to different districts to meet the family members of the deceased and hand over the cheques of Rs one lakh each.
At least 121 people, mostly women, were crushed after a stampede broke out during 'Bhole Baba satsang' in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.
Upon arrival, the Commission first held a meeting with the local police and administrative officials. Subsequently, the team visited the incident site in Phulrai Mughalgarhi village and inspected the Sikanderau Trauma Centre.
Political link of funding being investigated.
The reaction from the 'Bhole Baba' came a day after his lawyer, AP Singh said that the 'godman' will cooperate with the investigation.
Altogether, 121 people, mostly women, were killed in the stampede that occurred during the religious congregation of Bhole Baba or Sarkar Hari on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Hathras City, Rahul Mithas also said that they did not find the preacher in the ashram.
