West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday paid their tributes to Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, on his 556 birth anniversary, recalling his timeless teachings of peace, equality, and compassion.
When the world is celebrating the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak today, it is worth mentioning that the founder of the Sikh religion and a great saint had influenced two youths from Kolkata in the 19th century.
He made these remarks during a visit to Gurudwara Sahib at Cart Road, to pay his obeisance to the founder of the Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev on his birth anniversary, being celebrated as ‘Prakashotsav’ all over the world.
At the same time, it needs to be emphasised that establishment of communal harmony should be taken up on a continuing basis and not just as a fire-fighting operation at the time of escalating tensions.
India issued a statement condemning the vandalism of the Sikh shrine and called upon Pakistan to take immediate steps to ensure safety security and welfare of the Sikh community.
Miss Banerjee added that it is difficult to get the required land within proper city limits but that there could be space near EM Bypass.
Kejriwal said that the expenses of the pilgrimage to the Kartarpur Sahib paid by both the India and Pakistan government would be paid by the Delhi government.
"We have conveyed through diplomatic channels our objection over the video put out by the Pakistan Press Information Department and reminded them that the propagation of the images of Sikh terrorists is against the spirit of the corridor,” government sources said.
In a letter to Union MEA minister S Jaishankar, Sidhu said in case permission to the Pakistan invitation is not granted, he would cross the border as a pilgrim.
