Other states that have reported significant case numbers include Maharashtra (209), Delhi (104), Gujarat (83), and Karnataka (47).
The total COVID-19 caseload of the country has risen to 4,50,26,261. These also include the JN.1 Covid variant cases.
According to the ministry, Karnataka reported 61 cases, followed by Maharashtra 35 and Kerala 25 cases.
The Covid caseload rose to 4,50,21,383 with the addition of the new cases of infections.
The ongoing Kumbh Mela in Haridwar has been shortened this year to just one month from April 1 to 30 due to Covid.
The doctors have dubbed the new wave of COVID-19 infections as "very dangerous".
According to officials, all restrictions will remain the same as lockdown under the weekend curfew.
Prof (Dr) Jagat Ram, director of the apex institute, told The Statesman that genome sequencing of 60 samples sent by the PGI revealed that 70 per cent carried the UK variant, 20 per cent had 681 H mutant while one sample was found to be infected with the double mutant of the coronavirus.
As of the second week of April, with a whopping number of over 1.35 crore cases and 170k deaths, the country is wobbling on the edge of an unruly outbreak in its tussle with the fatal disease.
