A 31-year-old youth in South Kolkata committed suicide today allegedly due to the fear of CAA.
Issuing the notice to the Central government and seeking its response, a bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justice J B Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra posted the matter for further hearing on April 9, 2025.
The Government issues orders to speed up the proceedings.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has approached the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the implementation of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
“By raising such questions, I am inclined to believe that Pinarayi Vijayan is speaking for the BJP,” Satheesan said in a statement here on Saturday.
Terming the CAA as anti-constitution and an enactment that makes Muslims second class citizens, Pinarayi Vijayan said it poses a challenge to the idea of India and that the contentious legislation grants legal validity to religious discrimination.
CM Vijayan said that Kerala will neither bow down nor it will remain silent over the issue of CAA.
"By opposing CAA, Kejriwal has proved that he is a big enemy of Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Jains. The people of Delhi and the country had never thought that you (Kejriwal) would stoop so low. Being a Chief Minister, you are spreading fake news about CAA,'' the BJP MP said.
In a reaction to Home Minister Amit Shah's comments against him, Kejriwal said, "Country is more important, Home Minister has called me corrupt, criticised me, but he did not answer any of the questions raised by me."
This statement followed the launch of a portal by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday, enabling eligible individuals to apply for citizenship under the CAA 2019.
