All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has approached the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the implementation of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
“By raising such questions, I am inclined to believe that Pinarayi Vijayan is speaking for the BJP,” Satheesan said in a statement here on Saturday.
The petition contends that the CAA is divisive, one-sided, illogical, and against the secular notions of the country. It also argues that giving citizenship based on religion is discriminatory.
India on Friday rejected the US State Department's "concerns" regarding the implementation of the (CAA), and termed it as "misplaced, misinformed, and unwarranted"
Speaking at a press conference in North Paravur, Satheesan said that CM Vijayan had the other day said the Congress MPs were “having a feast with their party president” when Parliament had passed the CAA.
The CAA grants a safe haven to persecuted minorities belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian communities from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh who have entered India on or before 31 December 2014.
How dare you think of maligning an already Indian citizen by offering citizenship further? This is utter humiliating and an assault to the dignity of Matuas.
Terming the CAA as anti-constitution and an enactment that makes Muslims second class citizens, Pinarayi Vijayan said it poses a challenge to the idea of India and that the contentious legislation grants legal validity to religious discrimination.
CM Vijayan said that Kerala will neither bow down nor it will remain silent over the issue of CAA.
