A cashier of Punjab National Bank (PNB) was shot at when two masked robbers entered the bank premises in Jhotwara area here on Friday morning.

Police reached the spot on information and rushed the injured cashier Narendra Singh Shekhawat to a private hospital.

Additional Commissioner of Police Kailash Chand Bishnoi said the incident took place at PNB branch on Joshi Marg in Jhotwara. There were eight employees working in the bank.

The branch opened as usual at 9:30 in the morning. At around 9:45 am, two miscreants entered the bank wearing masks on their faces. They forced three bank employees sit in a room in an attempt to rob them.

During this, the bank cashier Narendra Singh Shekhawat entered the branch. The cashier clashed with the robbers. During this, the miscreant fired a bullet, which hit the cashier in the stomach.

Bishnoi said that probably both of them might have done the recce first. One of the weapons they were carrying was a country made weapon, whereas the other one had a dummy pistol.

One of the robbers trying to run away was caught by the public and was thrashed badly. He has been identified as Bharat Singh, a resident of Kotputli.
