Shahid Kapoor’s latest role as Maharawal Ratan Singh in Padmaavat is being loved by one and all. The movie also stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh who plays the roles of Rani Padmavati and Sultan Alauddin Khilji, respectively.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is very fond of the pair of Ranveer and Deepika. Before this project, the filmmaker had directed two films with them, Goliyon Ki Rassleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Masatani.

As the film is more focused on Khilji and Rani Padmavati, Shahid was asked in an interview why he agreed to be a part of Padmaavat. “I’m used to being the favorite of all my filmmakers. This was the first time that I was like an outsider. When you work with a team that has worked together, you are kind of an outsider and it takes time for you to break through that barrier,” he had said.

“The best thing about Sanjay sir is that he is ruthless in his creative desire. He is extremely intuitive towards artists and his craft. And he doesn’t care whether it is 4 am or midnight, or whether it is 82 days or 100 days or what the cost of one day’s shooting is or if someone is emotionally spent,” Shahid said.

When asked about the love story between Deepika and him, Kapoor said, “People have seen Ranveer and Deepika together in two of Sanjay sir’s earlier films — Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani. They liked them in both, but in Padmaavat, there is a strong love story between Maharawal Ratan Singh (me) and his queen Rani Padmavati (Deepika). The characters of Ranveer and Deepika don’t have a single shot together.”

Padmaavat is a re-imagining of Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic poem Padmavat, written in the 16th century. The film is breaking the box office on its third day.
