Two students allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves on Tuesday after getting upset over not scoring good marks in Class 10 board exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The results were declared on Tuesday.

The two incidents were reported from Kakrola and Vasant Kunj areas of the national capital.

Police said one of the deceased, 17-year-old Rohit Kumar Meena, was a student of Dwarka’s MR Vivekananda Model School.

Meena, a resident of Kakrola, was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, police said. According to the police, they got a call around 3.45 pm regarding the incident. No suicide note was recovered but police suspect he was upset over the results.  He had scored 59 per cent in the board exam.

The other incident was reported from Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area. Pragya Pandey, 15, who stayed in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence.

“She was a student in Ryan School, she got 70 per cent marks. She wanted to pursue science and could not do that due to low percentage,” said a senior police officer.

She was upset because of this and committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan, said the officer.

Her father works as a officer in the Enforcement Directorate, he added.

No suicide note was found.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class 10 board exam results on Tuesday. The overall pass percentage was 86.70.
