TMC poll candidate hurt in road crash; BJP comes to the rescue

Keeping their political ideologies, clashes and issues aside, albeit for a while, a BJP leader contesting the rural elections in the district displayed a rare piece of camaraderie and proved that despite several issues, humanity does exist.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gram panchayat (GP) candidate, Partha Pratim Dutta, along with his supporters, rescued Trinamul Congress gram panchayat candidate Sonam Dukpa who met with a road accident at Rajabhatkhawa under the Kalchini police station in Alipurduar district on Tuesday.

According to sources, Mrs Dukpa, the TMC candidate for Seat No-1 at the Rajabhatkhawa GP waes involved in the accident along with four other partymen at 23 Mandir on BF Road while the returned from an election campaign at the Buxa hill in Kalchini this morning.

They were returning on a Safari car that overturned after the driver lost control, leaving six persons, including Mrs Dukpa, and the driver injured.

Coincidentally, Mr Dutta, the BJP candidate from Seat No-5 from another booth of the Rajabhatkhawa GP, was campaigning along with his workers in the area where the accident took place.

“Noticing the accident, Mr Dutta and his supporters sprang into action and rescues Mrs Dukpa and her co-workers and admitted them to the Alipurduar district hospital,” sources said.

“Mrs Dukpa has received serious injuries on her head and back. All the six injured persons are presently under treatment in the Alipurduar district hospital,” hospital sources said.

“BJP men did a really good job, keeping their political identity aside. We will do the same thing when required,” said president of the Kalchini Block of the Trinamul Congress Committee, Ashim Mazumder.

“Humanity comes first, political ideology follows next. Our political ideology can never be a hurdle to exhibit our humanity,” said BJP leader Mr Dutta.
