Karni Sena members held the historic city of Udaipur to ransom on Thursday, 25 January, protesting against ‘Padmaavat’.

According to reports, fringe groups allegedly vandalised some business establishments and vehicles in the city.

Broken window panes and damaged products of the shops were seen in some parts of the city. Tyres were burnt in some areas as a mark of protest.

The police chased the miscreants away even as people didn’t venture out shopping out of fear.

The fringe groups had called for a half-day bandh on Thursday. Buses didn’t operate for a while to prevent the situation from turning even more serious.

Protests also prevented tourists from visiting the city’s iconic landmarks.

The Udaipur district administration had earlier issued an order preventing private and government schools from performing the “Ghoomar” dance at Republic Day events.
