Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Mukul Roy on Thursday summed up the state’s present scenario and coined the phrase ‘Bengal bleeds,’ even as he went on to slam what he called the deteriorating lawand- order situation in West Bengal, especially as the rural elections approach fast.

Pointing fingers at Mamata Banerjee-led state government, Mr Roy said the entire nation is aware of the “deteriorating law-and-order situation that is widespread in West Bengal.”

“A man belonging to the scheduled tribe community was killed at Bankura on Wednesday as he was the lone ST candidate in the area to file nominations for the upcoming panchayat elections. Police are mere puppets at the hands of the state government and Miss Banerjee,” Mr Roy claimed here on Thursday.

“The system has crippled. It has collapsed. Bengal is bleeding. We are seeing that the ruling party is forcefully stopping others from contesting the upcoming rural polls. Officials concerned should resign if they fail to neutralize this disorder,” he added.

Talking to media persons at the Bagdogra Airport, Mr Roy, the former Trinamul strongman, further said that his party may approach the governor for his intervention if the situation remains the same.

Mr Roy arrived in Siliguri this morning. Asked about the Kamtapur Progressive Party (KPP)- Trinamul Congress (TMC) coalition for the upcoming three-tier rural elections, the saffron party leader said, “There is nothing new in the development. A similar coalition happened during the Lok Sabha polls and as for the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha is concerned, let them decide if they want to walk parallel with us or not.”
