Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in Dwarka’s Sector-23 area. The horrific incident took place last Tuesday. Police reached the spot and sent the victim to Safdurjung Hospital for the examination which confirmed that she had been raped. When the victim was brought to the hospital she was unconscious, police said. The minor is currently undergoing treatment.

The doctors at the hospital said, “The condition of the juvenile girl is critical as her private parts have been badly damaged. The victim also has severe bite marks on her stomach”.

According to a senior police officer, the accused was identified on the basis of the CCTV footage. The man was reportedly seen with the victim in the footage.

The accused has been booked by the police under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO).

After visiting the victim in the hospital, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal said, “I am shocked to see the brutal state of the 7-year-old girl in the hospital. It is horrifying and the girl has been subjected to extreme cruelty by the accused”.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the victim and said that he would meet the city police commissioner over the law-and-order situation in the national capital.

“We will give Rs 10 lakh to the family and get her treated by the best doctors. We will also meet the police commissioner over the law-and-order situation and extend to him whatever cooperation he requires,” said Kejriwal.
