Election schedule announced for Rajya Sabha seat in HP

Chief Electoral Officer of Election Department Pushpendra Rajput on Thursday said the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced biennial election 2018 for a vacant Rajya Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh.

One seat in the Rajya Sabha has fallen vacant in HP following completion of term of Rajya Sabha MP JP Nadda on 2 April, 2018 and the vacancy will be notified on 5 March by ECI.

“The notification for Rajya Sabha will be made on 5 March and the last date for filing of nomination is 12 March. While the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on 13 and 15 March is the date for withdrawal of nominations,” he said.

Rajput said polling will be held on 23 March from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and counting will take place on the same day after polling.
While all processes of election will be completed by 26 March, he said.

He said the candidate belonging to general category is required to deposit a sum of Rs 10,000 as security with the returning officer while Rs 5,000 for candidate belonging to SC/ST. Polling will be held at Dr YS Parmar library hall in the complex of HP Assembly.

He said GC Negi, ADM Protocol has been designated as returning officer and Davinder Verma Under Secretary HP Assembly as assistant returning officer for the election.
