Residents of the Delhi Cantonment area held a massive demonstration on Thursday under the leadership of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken in protest against the alleged “BJP-Aam Aadmi Party government nexus”.

The protest was organised by Congress councillor from Delhi Cantonment Board Sandeep Tanwar.

Addressing the demonstrators, Ajay Maken said: “In the name of Swachhata Abhiyan tax, sealing and removal of names from the voters’ list of people of five villages, the BJP, which rules at the Centre and in the MCDs of Delhi, and the AAP government in Delhi were relentlessly harassing the people of Delhi Cantonment.”

He said, “as a result, the life of the people in Delhi Cantonment has become a huge nightmare. Whereas Delhi is under the rule of AAP, the BJP has the majority in Delhi Cantonment and rules at the Centre, but both these parties are just looking on and enjoying the ‘fun’ while the sealing drive has become an unbearable nightmare for the people of the Cantonment.

“The BJP and AAP governments are keeping silent as the people are being harassed and pilloried in the name of sealing drive,” he added.

Maken said, “The tax being charged from the people of Delhi Cantonment in the name of Swachhata Abhiyan is putting a heavy burden on them.”

Among others who participated in the demonstration were Anil Tanwar, Rattan Lal, Anil Lal, Abhishek Sangwan, Parveen Arora, Sandeep Gandhi, Sanjay Choudhary, Sushila Devi, Ankit Jain, Arun Jain, Amit Ujjainwal, Deepak Walia, Seetharam Tanwar and Souj Tanwar.

The Congress party’s Delhi Cantonment councillor Sandeep Tanwar said the BJP was doing nothing to end the woes of the people.
