The Opposition Congress on Monday staged a walkout accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party government of misleading the public.

The second session of the 13th Legislative Assembly that resumed here after the nine-day break amid noisy scenes with the Congress members charging the ruling party of trying to denigrate the opposition, just before the start of Question Hour.

Congress legislator from Bilaspur constituency Ram Lal Thakur said that he had given a notice under rule 67 to discuss the public statement of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur at Haroli constituency in Una district, wherein he had said the Congress members only oppose budget inside the House, but the same members call him at night and appreciate the budget. While Ram Lal Thakur was seeking reply from the CM, his mike stopped functioning, which annoyed Congress Legislature Party leader Mukesh Agnihotri. The CLP leader charged that the mike of Opposition Congress members was not working properly, which is nothing short of discrimination.

Objecting to mentioning of the names of the defeated BJP candidates on the inauguration stones, Agnihotri alleged it to be an attempt to demean the institution of elected representations.

Amid ruckus some of the Opposition members staged a walk out and were later followed by others. Jai Ram Thakur criticised the walkout and termed it unjustified. He said that the Opposition had staged a walkout to be in the limelight.

Speaker of the House Rajeev Bindal rejected the notice moved by Ram Lal under rule 67 and said the Opposition could have held the discussion during cut motion. The Opposition members later joined the house.
