The Delhi Congress on Monday staged a demonstration at Delhi Secretariat and sought the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said if an iota of morality was left in Kejriwal, as he had preached clean and corruption-free politics before the Assembly elections, he should resign.

Maken claimed to have won the fight against the 20 AAP MLAs on the office of profit issue by getting them disqualified.

Carrying placards and banners in their hands, the Congress demonstrators shouted slogans against AAP and its supremo Arvind Kejriwal.

“Kejriwal, who had said that his MLAs will serve the people like ordinary workers, and will fight against corruption, did the contrary after coming to power. Within one year after coming to power, the AAP government gave a massive 400 per cent hike in salaries to its MLAs to make it around Rs 36 lakh per year per MLA. If this was not corruption, then what was it?,” Maken asked.

Maken alleged half the ministers of the Kejriwal government had to be removed on account of corruption.

“We wanted to ask the BJP-appointed Election Commission why it did not recommend the disqualification of the 20 MLAs on the office of profit issue to the President of India before 22 December, 2017, because on that day the election date of three Rajya Sabha candidates from Delhi was announced,” said Maken.

He said in the case of the office of profit issue of Jaya Bachchan, the Election Commission had given its verdict within six months while the Election Commission took almost two years to give its decision on the 21 AAP MLAs on the office of profit issue.

He said the Congress had filed a petition against the 21 AAP MLAs on the office of profit issue before the Election Commission in June 2016, and the disqualification of the 20 AAP MLAs has only come now.
