The result of the Uttarakhand assembly election should create panic in Bahujan Samaj Party. The BSP failed to open its account in Uttarakhand for the first time in its history.

In the first state assembly election in 2002 BSP won seven seats. It was followed by a record 8 seats in the 2007 polls. But, in 2012 Uttarakhand assembly election BSP got reduced to 3 seats.

Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar are considered BSP strong holds. Even this time BSP chief Mayawati conducted her public rallies in various place in these two terai districts of Uttarakhand. Expected to win a few seats at least in Haridwar, Bahujan Samaj Party faced a route in the state assembly polls.

Mayawati remained tight-lipped on scams of Harish Rawat as BSP was a collation partner of  Congress government. Though she raised the issue of raising corruption in he hill state in her public rallies, but avoided making direct attack on Congress. Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar was a hub of illegal sand mining and many people close to Harish Rawat were active there. Despite this the BSP chief adopted a soft stand on Rawat government.

Big population of Dalit and minorities prevail in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. The result indicates that the vote back of BSP is shifting to Congress and BJP. Wrong choice of candidate is considered the most common factor for the poor show of BSP in the Himalayan state.  The outcome of the assembly election should force the BSP to conduct its introspection and make necessary changes to retain its position in Uttarakhand. Otherwise they might also meet the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal fate.

The case of regional party Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) is no different. This time the UKD too failed to impress the voters and lost in all the assembly seats- from where their candidates contested. In 2002, UKD won 4 seats, which got reduced to 3 seats in 2007 and one seat in 2012 polls.
