Four farmers of Burnpur in Asansol on Monday lodged a complaint at the chief minister&’s office (CMO) against a section of local Trinamul Congress leaders for helping land mafias to encroach their land.

The farmers namely Sukumar Datta, Dinesh Prasad, Badal Datta and Santosh Gorai reached Nabanna this morning and complained that four bighas of their total 18 bighas of land had been grabbed by the mafias. The land mafias have issued life threats when they protested, complained the farmers.

They complained that despite informing the Burdwan district administration of the issue, nothing has been done. Failing to get any relief, the farmers came to complain to chief minister Mamata Banerjee about the matter.

The farmers are residents of Banthali mouza under Nabagundi Panchayat. This the second instance in recent times that a farmer reached Nabanna with complaints against Trinamul Congress leaders and administrative inaction.

Earlier, a farmer of Birbhum had complained of local leaders demanding bribe for using modernised machine for farming and police inaction. Following the intervention of the CMO, the police have, however, registered their complaint.
