Bankura will have a new university, which will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister on Tuesday. The Bankura Zilla Parishad has identified the land for the university. Presently the colleges in Bankura are under the University of Burdwan.
Besides, the Chief Minister will be laying the foundation for another two degree colleges in Ranibandh and Mejia.
One ITI and a Polytechnic College are also on the cards, the district officials said. Bankura didn’t have a disaster management cell and the Chief Minister took a serious note of this especially after last year&’s flash flood in Bhairav Banki river on 6 September in which a passenger bus was washed away and four people were killed. The DM, Bankura, Mr Vijay Bharti said today: “The Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee will declare a special Civil Defence Force comprising 60 youths who will be given a special training to combat disastrous situations in the district.”
Two rescue vehicles worth Rs 30 lakh each and a pair of speedboats has already been allotted for the purpose, the District Magistrate said.
