The accident also left eight persons, including two infants, seriously injured.

Five persons, one of them an infant, died when the car they were travelling in met with an accident near Samba on the Jammu-Pathankot highway. They were going towards Punjab when the accident occurred in the early hours of Friday.

The accident also left eight persons, including two infants, seriously injured. All victims were from Gurdaspur district of Punjab and were returning home. Police said their SUV went out of the driver’s control and hit the road parapet around 2 am.

The deceased are Labpreet Singh (30), Punnu (30), Veena, Geeta Devi (60) and a one-year-old male child. All of them died on the spot.

Those injured are, Rahul (23), Atras (24) Raju (30), Roop Singh (45), Monu (26) and Neetu (25) and her 2 Children.

The injured were shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu city, a police officer said.
