Uttar Pradesh’s SIR draft voter list for 2026 is out. Here is how voters can check their names online, understand removals, and file claims before the deadline.
The total number of voters in the SIR draft rolls has now come down to 12.56 crore from 15.44 crore, marking the deletion of around 18.70% of names.
The exercise has triggered strong political reactions, with the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) claiming that the large-scale deletion of voter names would severely impact the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2027 Assembly elections.
A senior party leader said here on Tuesday that this is the best time for the BJP leaders to involve themselves in the SIR process so that they can win the polls without any hassles for the next two decades.
Approximately 2.96 crore voters are at stake in this process, whose names may be removed from the voter list after being categorised as “untraceable.” All political parties fear that if supporters’ names are deleted, it could adversely affect the 2027 Assembly elections.
Arvind Kumar’s brother-in-law and colleague Lal Singh said he had been under intense pressure due to his SIR-related duties in Amroha’s Fayyaz Nagar area. “There was a lot of urgency and workload. He was stressed,” he said.
Today was the deadline to distribute 100% of the enumeration forms to 15.44 crore voters in UP. But till 3 PM on Saturday, UP could achieve 94.37% with distributing among 14,57,32,454 voters against the total registered voters of 15,44,30,192 voters.
The ECI has a herculean task to cover over 1.62 lakh polling booths with 15.44 crore voters in just a month time.
After filling out the counting form, one copy of the self-signed form or signed by an adult relative will be given to the Booth Level Officer, and the other copy, signed by the Booth Level Officer, will be given to the voter/adult relative as a receipt.
