The ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh has asked its public representatives to engage themselves in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state in a big way so that they can have an impact on its win for the next 20 years. The enumeration period in the state ends on December 26, and the draft rolls will be published on December 31, but still around 29 million voters are untraceable, mostly in the urban areas.
A senior party leader said here on Tuesday that this is the best time for the BJP leaders to involve themselves in the SIR process so that they can win the polls without any hassles for the next two decades.

He said, “If we don’t focus on SIR in assembly constituencies where we won by a margin of only 100-500 votes, our MLAs could lose the next election.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath too has expressed his concern about SIR in the state. He presented a list of assembly constituencies where the SIR work has been minimal. The list revealed increased shifted voters in Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak’s Lucknow Cantt constituency and increased missing voters in Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay’s Agra South constituency.
During a recently held workshop for the second phase of the SIR by the BJP, the CM presented the data of the top 25 assembly constituencies in terms of shifted, missing, and deceased voters to the party workers. These included Lucknow Cantt, Lucknow North, Lucknow South, Hardoi, Milkipur (Ayodhya), Agra South, Lakhimpur, and other assembly constituencies.
The CM had said, “In many assembly constituencies, 15 to 20 per cent of names are still missing. Names can be added to the SIR until December 26. Get the names of the remaining voters added.”
He said, “Check the voter list at your booth to see if any voters have been incorrectly listed as displaced or dead. There should not be some trivial reason that voters’ names are not being included in the list.” The CM also urged people to check the draft voter list to ensure that existing voters haven’t been marked as missing.
The CM said, “Any suspicious name found in the draft voter list must be objected to. Upon objection, the BLO will delete the name; later, the name can only be added if the person concerned provides an affidavit and other documents.”
The CM said three to five per cent of elderly people have been shown dead in the Mankapur assembly of Gonda, whereas this cannot happen.
Newly appointed BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary had also said, “Now, everyone should focus on SIR’s work. Meeting him will only happen after the SIR.”
