The Sealdah Division has decided to cancel local trains in at least eight routes and divert trains in some more following an overhaul of Bridge No. X-25 at Kankurgachi.
The Sealdah Division of the Eastern Railway is slated to get its first set of premium trains of the Amrit Bharat sleeper series. If all goes according to the plan, the division could get two new routes of Amrit Bharat sleeper trains soon.
In what comes as an accomplishment for Sealdah, the divisional railway recorded significant improvements in punctuality in 2025.
Passengers availing a journey from Sealdah station would now be able to travel hassle-free without worrying about packing their medicines.
In a bid to streamline passenger flow, reduce congestion and improve overall train operations, Sealdah division has decided to allow male passengers to board in a few earmarked coaches of Matribhumi locals.
Around 15 local EMUs had to be cancelled following obstruction by a crowd of passengers. The agitating crowd protested at Uttar Radhanagar Halt from 6.26 a.m. to 9.16 a.m. and at a level crossing gate near Hotar from 8.40 a.m. to 9.17 a.m. Banana leaves were also thrown on overhead wire near Dhamua station and at Magrahat station.
Aiming to decongest station premises, authorities of Sealdah Division are exploring options to ease out the visitors flow at Sealdah station with a new entry/exit gate coupled with a subway.
The Sealdah Division took a host of measures following the Regional Meteorological Centre issuing an alert for Kalboisakhi (seasonal thunderstorms) with lightning and strong gusty surface wind in parts of South Bengal from 20 to 22 March bringing potential threat to smooth suburban train operations in the division.
Train commuters will face triple traffic blocks in Sealdah division this Sunday.
