Liberal ideology and gender stereotypes

The conversations around the introduction of unisex uniforms have seen another school in Kerala breaking gender stereotypes. The Government Tribal Lower Primary School in Attathodu has become the first tribal school in the State to embrace gender-neutral uniforms. While gender equality was the dominating factor in the decision taken by the Balussery school, convenience and utility lie at the heart of the one taken by the tribal school.

Schools & colleges to reopen from 3 Feb: CM

Several forums of parents, teachers and heads of institutions are in favour of reopening the schools. The High Court is also hearing a PIL on the issue. The West Bengal Academy of Paediatricians have also written a letter to Miss Banerjee speaking in favour of reopening the academic institutions.

Education needs stronger budgetary support

In new circumstances, the allocation for the National Scheme for Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education needed a boost. Instead, we saw BE of Rs. 110 crore for 2020-21 being cut to a revised estimate of just Re. 1 crore, and the BE for 2021-22 also being kept at this low amount of Re. 1 crore. These are the components of the union budget which have the most impact on poorer and more vulnerable students, and sadly these saw a significant decline.
